[Archived] Should Dunny Have Come Home?
Fife Rover replied to blinddevotion's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Perhaps MH should put him on a curfew! Ring him at home every night at 10 pm. -
I am sure I read somewhere a while back (last season?) that Neill intends to go back to Aus after his playing days are over and he intends to start a new and powerful football league there. Much better and bigger in World terms than the 'A' league. That will need some REAL money. So perhaps he is not just being greedy in the usual sense but is wanting to accumulate as much as he can while still playing. Not defending; just posing a possible explanation!

Well I must say I am both amazed and PLEASED by this turn of events!! Yes really; I know I have opposed the attempts to bring Dunny back, but that was always with a feeling of sadness and regret. I doubted his fitness and ability to stay fit. But this morning I am feeling uplifted by the news that he has passed a stringent medical at Notlob, and therefore is fit enough to take a chance on. Also if any club has a chance of making this thing work it has to be Rovers where Dunny's heart lies and the facilities and coaching are first class. Now we go on to phase 2; where Dunn has to do his bit and not only get match-fit, but STAY that way i.e no pies, and very much restricted night life and booze. IF he can do that I am sure we will have a winner!! Time alone will tell; fingers crossed folks and let's ALL now get behind the club and Dunny and give him a fantastic Rovers welcome back!! -

No DB you are not alone. You have perfectly summarised all the things I would have said. So I can only add that I (and the others also I would guess from the tone of their posts) take no pleasure in this situation. It is simply that we care more about the future of BRFC than fulfilling the ambitions of a local lad who initially made good and achieved his ambition to play for Rovers, but then was not strong enough to resist the temptations that his new found status and money brought him. So he wasted the opportunity that virtually any Rovers fan would give anything to achieve by not keeping to the necessary standard of fitness a professional footballer MUST have if he is to enjoy a full and productive career. I will say no more as it really does pain me to have to talk about it. -
No you didn't read it wrong. That is what was said at the beginning of this season, and it was published in the LT as well. Somebody is not only telling fibs they are telling downright bloody lies!!!

When have I called anyone an idiot? Examples please.

I thought we were having a sensible discussion on here. Is there really any need for resorting to personal abuse?

I did not want to take up too much space by quoting the Gull's last post again; it is only 2 or 3 posts back from this. However, having read and fully understood his post I must say I agree with him and fully understand where he is coming from. There must also be lots more people who see themselves as true Rovers supporters who for similar, or different but equally valid reasons to them, would LIKE to attend at Ewood on a regular basis. The only reason they don't is because circumstances purely applicable to them and nobody else conspire to prevent them doing so. There are many reasons why once die-hard supporters no longer attend regularly; most of them have been discussed at length on here and I will not trawl through them all again. I will just summarise (if I may) what I feel are the main causes for this decline. Listed in no particular order of importance, but all are valid reasons: 1) Total Cost of attendance. i.e. not just admission, but travel and other expenses as well. 2) TV coverage. 3) Hooligan behavior. 4) General disappointment with the "entertainment level" due to players cheating, match officials performance. 5) Unhappy with the seating arrangements, comfort level, poor view, people standing etc. 6) Unhappy with other incidentals; Noise from PA, Drummers, poor catering facilties etc. There are probably some I have missed that other people would include, but whatever. These are ALL valid reasons that should be being addressed by BRISA and the club. And on a wider stage too they should be being addressed by Prem League and F.A. because over the country as a whole the decline in attendance at football matches over the last 30 or so years must be a major concern to them all. Just one more point that occurs to me, and harking back to what was discussed a little way back in this thread. On the subject of attendances at Ewood: If we could just be allowed to fantasise for a moment and speculate on what would be the effect on attendance at Ewood if for one match absolutely everybody from all parts of the world that count themselves as still-committed Rovers fans were to turn up? I am discounting all those who no longer have an interest other than very passive. Only still fully dedicated fans; how many would that be? I guess it would be more than enough to fill Ewood, as it stands, to more than it's capacity, but by how much? My guess is not enough to fill say Anfield (45,000). What do you think?

Surely this is not a problem at this moment in time. We have until the end of the season to see how things pan out and for MH and JW to make their decision. Hopefully by then the situation will be much clearer and it will be resolved accordingly. -

We might as well try and get Ronnie Clayton fit again while we are at it. He is available and was a better player than Dunn could ever be. We would definitely get him for free and on a pay for play basis! -

So did several hundred Rovers players that I have seen but I would not describe all of them as "legends". Mind you quite a few of them were TRUE legends; far more so than Dunn could ever be. -

Might JUST be worth the risk providing Birmingham continue to pay the premiums on his insurance policy for at least a year. -

If City want him they are welcome to him; let them take the risk and prove/ disprove his fitness and present ability to play a WORTHWHILE role in the EPL. -

Yes true, but I wouldn't half love to see a young fit Kevin Gallagher back in Rovers colours! -

I understand that Den, but why do you need to say it at all? Why not just sit back and watch things develop as MH sees fit to make them, and quietly nod approval to yourself (or disapproval if you must) but surely it is in nobodies interest to put a youngster just breaking into the fringes of 1st team football under the microscope and analyse all aspects of his game on this MB. And I KNOW you are not one of those that has said anything too undermining about his performance; my comments were not aimed at anyone in particular; but were intended as a general comment/ question for all to consider. -

For pity's sake people; go easy on the lad. He is a 20 yr old reserve team player that has been given a few cameo appearances off the bench to gradually acclimatise him to 1st team football. That's all! What are you lot hoping to achieve by all this discussion? Are you TRYING to undermine his confidence? Give the lad a chance!! -
I'm having a little difficulty following this slightly off-topic discussion. The Normans were Christian (nominally) whilst the Vikings were Pagan (many gods).

You see what I meant in my reply to your Topic Starting Post of 1750 hrs WSR. I ask a question of another poster, and you come flying in with an answer. How can you possibly know what was in the mind BringDunnyBack? You really must try and control your impulsiveness. -

Absolutely right John. My problem with re-signing Dunn is with his ability to get and STAY fit. With his attitude and lifestyle (unless it changes fundementally and drastically) he will ALWAYS be unfit in the sense of overweight and hence injury-prone. To say nothing of the strong probability of premature ageing (opposite to Tugay) effect. -
We have already deduced and more or less had confirmed by the man himself that WSR is one and the same as RTM. Are you now saying that both these characters are actually Roverdrake?
