[Archived] Newcastle 3-0 Blackburn Rovers
MCMC1875 replied to Roaming Rover's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
This would be my XI Friedel Neill Amoruso Short Gray Emerton Flitcroft Ferguson Gallagher Dickov Stead Not sure if its ever played together before. Thommo would start before Emerton if he was fit. Parkes is sure to recall Flitty. BTW Bryan, I was right about Ewood Parkes and the laundry - just remember where you heard it first......... -
I accept what you're saying here, and I acknowledge that I'm taking it out of its context a little but I'm sure I've seen a quote on one of these threads this week that states that Rovers' Premiership record under Souness contained more defeats than victories (something like 45 defeats to 40 wins) If you are referring to tangible success ie trophies and European qualification then I accept that point. I know stats can be manipulated to paint whatever picture you want to portray, however losing more games than you win can't be good in anyone's view. The Blackburn "paying public" are deserting in their droves because, over the last 18 months or so, they are being asked to pay more in ticket prices for a poorer standard of football. Simple as that. The hardcore season ticket holders will continue to support year after year but the "casual" supporter, the bandwagon supporter if you like, is going to jump off just as quickly as he/she jumped on circa 1995 because they're not getting any 'entertainment value' I'm looking forward to the new manager a) being a popular choice being tactically proficient c) having a good backroom team around him d) introducing some entertaining football e) being able to cure our defensive frailties it's not too much to ask is it ?!! BLIMEY!!

Crompton - must have been a hero for ALL his endeavours for BRFC.
-
BTW CB, I've been to Shrigley Hall and it's vv posh.
-
Rovers have always played 4-4-2 in my memory. Souey's tactics for the 1st season promoted had the benefit of surprise. I really fear for Jon Stead with no Cole and Gally absent.
-
Don't think the old Matt Jansen exists anymore.
-
...... and a new tannoy man!
-
Don't you mean Frank Sidebottom?
-
Can he take penalties? We're in for a deluge sooner or later.......
-
Gennoe. What about all those penalty saves - Oxford (a) etc.

Anybody know what has happened to the Academy prospects - it used to be touted as 'one of the best in Europe' ????

5-1 it was. 1st leg League Cup. Return game at Ewood not surprisingly saw lowest crowd, and was played out in pouring rain - some things never change! Bryan's talking about the game at the back-end of the 1993-94 season when a win would have taken us top. We lost 4-1 after taking the lead. I was there and it was a totally depressing night. We should run a 'most depressing match' thread. It would run and run.

Yes but, the main benefit of the switch is that Parkes distance from Souey will make it easier to fill his boots in the caretaker role.
-
Sounds like the anti-Souey brigade arein the majority and rising. Be interesting to hear the crowd reaction on Sat when team news is published. PS. Although Stead took most of the credit last Spring, Gally played a big part in his sub appearances.
-
Top ten maybe - but you don't say which division you're talking about.
-
LD G Graham would spend too much time with the lottery money in a carrier bag on the Services / B'Burn station.
-
GS has lost the plot - this can be traced back to the touchline at Soton last season when Dennis Rofe happened to be in the wrong place and Souey mistook him for a referee before clobbering him.
-
No time to wait I'm afraid TP. The club is being hit where it hurts most - in the pocket - Prem and Centenary Suite bookings are down massively on match days. These are the people who influence the board on big decisions.
-
Keeley as No 2 to Mark Hughes sounds better. BTW saw Tony 'Ewood' Parkes at the launderette this morning havin his suit dry cleaned - so watch this space.......

Only person he can get a grip on is his wife's ex.

[Archived] "no Money For New Players" - Souey
MCMC1875 replied to RevidgeBlue's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Rev Clearly you are correct - a disaster PR wise - my post weeks ago, replying to your LET letter, highlights the effect of transfer policy over ticket price on season ticket sales. But all fans on this thread should consider that: 1.The cost of the last result (usually a poor game if safe) should be taken with a pinch of salt - what about the other 15 poor results at Ewood? 2. 1500 ST's @ £400 is only £600K - not much for wages (or fees). 3.A player on £40K per week requires the sale of 4,000 seats for 20 home games @ £25 per seat (if my maths are right). 4.Clearly Prem clubs rely more on Sky TV, sponsorships and other commercial monies (and less on attendances). We are perhaps not worse off than ever before and perhaps the powers that be do not give the fans as much respect as they might. Comments? -
[Archived] Season Ticket Prices
MCMC1875 replied to greggyk's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Don't worry Rich, the club can't distribute them within a five mile radius of Ewood let alone Ireland. Its done by mail to a database of all those who have purchased a season ticket in any year for as long as they wish to go back. Its nothing to do with location - idiot! -
Berg won 100th cap last night - a national record! Well done Henning.
