  1. Anyone think Gally would have also taken that chance that fell to Leonard?
  2. Markanday deserved the goal from a good press and tackle.
  3. Really would like to see Markanday start to stake his claim today.
  4. Wonder if Friedel would still be our best option between the sticks
  5. Ash is currently a league 1 level player. He only got into the first team last year because 1) we had a massive injury crisis at center back (even played Pickering there) and 2) we needed to show faith in him so he’d agree the 3year deal. I don’t think JDT will be here in 3 years unless we get promoted. He talks a lot about the process and project, but in reality he is ambitious and wants the same from the club. Ash was always going to be gone when he’d be ready to contribute. Getting him to sign last year is a £3 million windfall. I have to imagine JDT would prefer the funds now vs potential of a player that would probably leave in 2 years anyway.
  6. Financial fair play is more about preventing Newcastle becoming man city or another Jack Walker than it is about “fair play”. The championship highlights that above all else. Really hope we can buck the odds, like Luton, and get up, but the reality is life in the premier league, under current FFP, only dooms us to eventual regulation. FFP only ensures no one can continually compete with the top 6. Just ask Leicester
  7. Heard an interesting statistic today. 90% of teams promoted from the championship have bee. In receipt of parachute payments or would have breached the P&S limits had they not gotten promoted. sad stare really what the tv deal mongering for the premier league has meant for the championship
  8. I thought he was poor in possession last year. Always and predictably playing backwards and sideways. His touch also seemed to get stuck under himself at times. Looked like a young kid that was trying too hard not to make a mistake.
  9. Amari Bell on the score sheet for Jamaica in the gold cup quarter final.
  10. For Batty, Garret, Leonard, Vale, S Wharton and others preseason can make or break their future with the club. They better be treating this like the opportunity it is.
  11. S Wharton had a dismal season last year, but the year before proved he can play well at this level. I’d be happy with those four and using funds elsewhere
  12. Would much prefer him to break through and not spend funds on a 30 year old. If he does step up Hyam, Carter, S Wharton and Ash would be plenty of cover. Loan out Barnes knowing Pickering can cover in a pinch.
  13. Massively underwhelming both these sides. To the Coventry is there because their keeper batted a ball down in our box. I’d have fancied our chances against either one of these two
  14. Great player and person for the club. Shame the injuries took 3 of his top years. Wish him nothing but luck in the future, and hope his wages can be used to bring in a goal scorer or two.
  15. Not that it makes it any better, but was it ever confirmed we paid £7 million for him? I thought I read that was the price after sell ons, which clearly there will be none. Similar to the Armstrong deal where the fee paid was small but the sell on was quite large.
  16. Wish the lad luck. Don’t want to imagine where we’d have been without his goals the last 3 years. Complete bottle job how the club has handled his contract. During his amazing 20 goal by new years run, the numbers indicated it was unsustainable. Had a rough patch in the second half the last two seasons. honestly don’t think he fits the style JDT wants to play. Think we will see a proper number nine and hopefully wingers with more ability to create chances. but it will probably be Hedges, Dolan and Gally.
  17. I think all three have a lot of room to improve. Travis isn’t anywhere near good enough on the ball. Wharton and Buckley lack defensively and none of them are especially good in the air. I’d like to see us operate with a midfield 3 more next year. Garrett pushing Travis for the defensive role. Buckley and Wharton in front. No better way to gain experience than playing. of course we will need cover as 4 for 3 isn’t going to make it all season. Bring in an experienced squad member to help the lads and provide depth. But with our financial limitations I’d rather see us spend whatever meager funds available on strikers, wingers and left back competition
  18. The great thing about kids playing well is they dont know they're not supposed to be playing well. The youth in the side is the most promising aspect of the squad.
  19. Maybe we can sell him Gally for £7 million?
  20. I’d rather have gotten the penalty against Burnley. That point and not watching those twats not lift the trophy would have added 20 years to my life. Not to mention we we the better side and deserved at least a point
  21. He’s very poor on the ball. Like Gally he works hard and is good for running into a wall but not a starting center mid caliber player and certainly not captain material.
  22. Feeling a bit of pride after that. Excellent way to end the season but really should have been in the bag weeks ago. Poor run since the World Cup, but can’t help be feel undone in part to bad luck. Can easily point to 3 or 4 matches where a point has been stolen from us. We return nearly the entire squad who played meaningful minutes. Need at least 4 in. 2 center forwards, a left winger and a left back. If GN can get the necessary paperwork over the line in the summer we should be top 6 next year.
