  1. I understand we switched the road signs leading into Clitheroe to say Burnley, and told them Clitheroe was a suburb ... then took them over the Ribble to Waddington ( renamed Lower Burnley for the day ), they had lunch at the Lower Buck, and signed the cheque on the spot !! 😉
  2. Christ, don't leave me here on my own, Longers !! My view is that we get a very fair hearing, but treading the line between analysis, fair comment and banter is a tricky one on a rival's board .... you will occasionally get it wrong, or invoke the wrath of a rival supporter who's got out of bed the wrong side, or had a sense of humour failure !
  3. One of the oddities of English Football history, is that when the agreement to form the Premier League was signed by the 22 Clubs in the then 1st Division on 20th February 1992, it was signed by representatives of two Clubs, who, as yet, have never kicked a ball as a Premier League Club. The two Clubs concerned, Luton and Notts County, were relegated that season, and have never returned to the top flight ... As of this season, 50 Clubs have enjoyed at least one " season in the sun " in the Premier League .... I should much prefer it if Luton do not become the 51st ...
  4. The one thing I can confirm, is that Burnley will not be spending the £140m + that Forest did last Summer. What is certain is that Kompany will be pressing the Chairman to sort out the Accounting delay sharpish, so our current Transfer embargo will be lifted in time for some early dealing in the market. Hopefully some of our squad will take note of the fate of some who've left Burnley for " greener grass " .... Michael Keane, Tarkowski & McNeil are embroiled in a relegation scrap, Chris Wood hardly set the world on fire at Newcastle & got loaned to Forest before injury ended his season. Maxwell Cornet has been beset by injuries and started just 1 EPL game at West Ham, Nathan Collins is doing OK at Wolves whilst Pope & Ben Mee are having great seasons at Newcastle & Brentford.
  5. In peace, Not really much to add to the comments, so, so much better from your lads than that supine performance in November. Wharton looked a real player, and some proper fight from Rankin-Costello. Mentioned on our board but as several there have said, Burnley can hardly complain about " S**thousery ", when we have our Ashley leading the line... Lots of good build up with a decent pressing game, but as you all seem to say, a lack of Strikers is holding you back together with the inconsistency that will always happen with a young squad. We were off the pace first half, and it was just that one bit of quality that won us the game. Cork's tackle was always only a Yellow, as his other leg was far away from the Rovers player, but even I winced at the Barnes hand-ball. It's a VAR penalty all day long, but I consoled myself with the memory of Mr Dunn's offside goal and Olsson's dive and then felt much better ... If Venky's actually make some Transfer funds available, and not just cover the day to day operating losses, then there's the basis of a good team, and I think your manager has done well with what's available. Without two freakish events deep into stoppage time in those last two games, you'd be set fair for the play-offs .... Finally, let's hope the next " Derby " is a Premier League fixture, I think we can all agree on that !
  6. Good afternoon one and all, Nerves are setting in in this particular part of East Lancashire. A decent bottle of Malbec is " breathing ", and Mrs Sympathetic Claret is bracing herself for an evening of her husband of 34 years, issuing fearful invective at the Television Screen ... Wherever you're taking in the game, live, TV or online, have a good evening ! Let's hope both sides D***head elements are controlled, and it passes off without incident. I stand by my previous 2-1 Rovers win prediction ... don't know enough about t'Rovers players to predict scorers, but Benson for us ... Whatever happens, I won't be posting until tomorrow ..... licking wounds if defeated, and living up to my soubriquet of " Sympathetic Claret " and not rubbing it in if we win !!
  7. In peace, as ever ... Looking at the situation from a reasonably objective standpoint, I'd be worried about the soft underbelly of Rovers and the inability to see games out, the fact that both Luton and Millwall are tough very fit physical sides, the lack of goals with Brereton-Diaz's current form & Gallagher being out, and finally, the negative goal difference ...
  8. You're worrying about nothing, we've been poor in the last 3 games, 2 points out of the last 9 and the players are mentally in Marbella ... Tella, who really makes things tick is out injured, Barnes has been " living " on his two goals against Rovers since November and on present form, couldn't hit a cow's arse with a frying pan ... VK has been rotating the squad to ensure the non-regular starters qualify for a medal and the results reflect this. 2-1 Rovers, with a late consolation for us from Benson ...... you read it here first ! " NostraDingle "
  9. Dream start for you lads, Preston and Norwich behind at Swansea and QPR respectively ....
  10. In my previous life, I worked for one of the " Big 4 " Banks and in the late 90's one of my customers was a Coach firm in Greater Manchester. The owner told me that at one stage he had the Rovers contract, as none of the local firms would take Rovers, due to a combination of damage from opposing fans and late payment. He told me that at one stage, Mr Fox was paying him out of his own pocket .. He was with Bill Fox at Boundary Park the day Burnley beat Orient to stay in the League, a result he said that caused Bill to use some industrial language, " But Bill, they're your historical rivals, did you really want them out of the League ? " ..... " Yes, I bloody well did, to shut t'buggers up for ever ! " ( that was the gist of it .. ) All of you can be reassured that at least at that time, you had " one of your own " at the helm at Ewood !! 😉
  11. 5-1 ..... Five shots all game, all on target and all goals , according to the BBC stats !!
  12. Are you being serious ? We're already up, whilst Rovers lie in 6th place, holding on to the last play off spot. You have a tough " run in ", based on League positions but 4 of your remaining games are at Ewood, including this one ... This is the best chance you've had of returning go the top flight since relegation in 2012, and you're seriously suggesting it's a bigger game for us ?? For these four games, the Club should be offering £10/£15 tickets with free admission for children to try to maximise home advantage for these games, with the aim of roaring you into the play-offs on the back of some great results. It's a crucial game for Rovers, surely ... or have the fatalists won after 1 point out of the last 9, with their " here we go again, end of season collapse " mentality ?
  13. I believe it'll be there, it's appearing on " The Repair Shop " tomorrow night ! 😁
  14. Aye, I can see a real " Donnybrook " at the Clog & Billycock ....
  15. To be fair, it was minimised on my screen from earlier today and I noticed it before I closed the lap-top ! Didn't want the spraying Champagne to get on the key-board !! 😎
  16. Normal service has been resumed, well done that man !! 😁
  17. Thank you for your replies Gents, the contents of which have been noted .... 😉
  18. Good point ! In one respect perhaps even more important as they are the proverbial " 6 pointers " ! In addition it's a shocking look on television, with acres of empty seats on display ... It might be an interesting conversation when Mr Waggott next rings India asking for an injection of funds, " I understand you've just turned down 5,000 fans paying £30 a pop plus catering sales ... because your precious players don't want too many people shouting at them, I suppose you want us to provide this money instead ? "
  19. Yep, technically true, 4 occasions I believe .... although I think 1902-03 may have been the last time !
  20. The last 3 Clubs who failed to be re-elected were all coastal North West Clubs, with poor transport links ... Barrow ( 1972 ), Workington ( 1977 ) and Southport ( 1978 ), replaced by Hereford, Wimbledon and Wigan respectively. Of the current League Clubs, Hartlepool had to apply for re-election 14 times, followed by Rochdale on 10 occasions ... curiously, as I write, these two Clubs are 91st & 92nd in the Football League pyramid !!
  21. It's believed each Director took turns to pick a kit each season, sometimes they would say no or little change ... that was until they settled on Villa's colours in 1910 ...
  22. Senior moment, I was trying to come up with the other one and assumed it was when Bury were there, Rochdale is clearly the other one. Bury never started the 2019-20 season due to their issues, which was Salford's first after winning their play-off. The play-off was against AFC Fylde, so it would have been an " Old Lancashire " Club, whoever won ...
  23. The 17 being both Manchester & Liverpool Clubs, Burnley, Blackburn, Preston, Blackpool, Wigan, Bolton, Fleetwood, Morecambe, Accrington, Salford, Barrow, Oldham and at the time Bury ....
  24. I spoke to one of the Radio Lancashire reporters a few years back, and he told me of meeting a new Radio Norfolk Sports presenter who was saying that he was " so busy " covering both Norwich & National League King's Lynn. " How many teams do you have to cover ? ", our man thought for a moment ... " Oh, we're lucky really, just the 7 ", " Lucky ? " replied the Radio Norfolk man, " Yes, if we were covering the whole of " Old Lancashire ", it would be 17 !! " No they are not !! Both Clubs have storied histories, especially in relation to the size of their populations and are rightly celebrated by both sets of fans .... 😎
  25. I don't live in a cave, as I've said before, it's better to keep informed Why is it on the " Dingles " thread then ? I don't know the answer, I don't know what I don't know ... Correct, but I suspect I'm not alone in that !
