The England Team - all the news, views…

Incredible night. England finally showed up to the tournament in that first half, and showed great resilience in the 2nd half to soak up pressure and hit the Netherlands with the last minute sucker punch. Credit where its due and Southgate got it right with the subs last night as well. I still feel Southgate will leave his role regardless of what happens on Sunday. People will say he's earned a shot at another tournament and I understand that, but if we win the final then what a high to go out on. -

Sheer relief to get through, a better performance but not brilliant. BUT, Kane is proving to be quite a hindrance for this team. He drops far too deep, doesn't seem able to hold up the ball most of the time, and generally appears quite sluggish and not 100%. It won't happen, but I'd be tempted to bring Toney in for the semi-finals. If it somehow ends up being a France vs England final then god help us all from that snooze fest 😂. -
Rovers kits 24/25 season

It's a lovely shirt design, no doubt about that. The buttons makes it much more 1992-94 than 1994/95, but nevertheless its a great design, probably my favourite since the sponsor-less version of 2011/12. Macron have done a pretty solid job in their shirt designs since taking over. Nice that they actually put the effort in unlike some of the piss poor templates we had in the past with Nike and Umbro. -

Ironic that Rovers will be wearing kits that celebrate winning the prem in a season that will likely see them drift down to League One. Sorry to be pessimistic about it, but all signs are pointing towards a very difficult season that'll end in tears. -

Awful performance yesterday, and the Kalvin Phillips comment from Southgate is as bizarre as it gets. Almost Steve Kean levels of delusion there! What must Wharton and Mainoo be thinking with that comment. They've both proven that they can do it at a top level. One of them deserves the nod in the next game. Only Pickford and perhaps Guehi came out of yesterday with any real credit. Bellingham absolutely non existent. Southgate has shot himself in the foot by not taking a proper left back who's match fit. Having Shaw there is a waste of a place given his injury troubles. Surely someone like Colwill is better than putting a square peg in a round hole. Huge changes need to be made for the Slovenia game. I'd be looking to do something like the following: Pickford Walker Stones Guehi Trippier Wharton Rice Bellingham Saka Kane Gordon Although not happy about Trippier being at left back, he's left himself with little choice. I can't see him switching to a back 3 either. Having Gordon in there means he and Trippier on the same flank and you'd hope with a decent bit of understanding. Harry Kane needs to be told to never drop deep. He does it far too often and it completely destroys any attacking counter attacking threat we may have. I'd go as far as dropping him for Watkins or Toney but I can't see Southgate doing that. -

Rovers seemed to be doing a lot of work with Webbox last season. Perhaps it could be them as new shirt sponsor? Would be happy with Watson Ramsbottom as far as logo designs go. -

As many others have said, it was a very underwhelming first game. Pretty much a typical England performance. Started promisingly, got a goal early and then as the game went on they gradually sat deeper and invited pressure.....a bit like another team we all know! Trippier on the left just didn't work at all. Foden disappointing as he has been many times for England. For all the talk of Foden needing to play centrally, regardless of where you play you still need to look as though you want the ball and do the basics right. He couldn't play simple passes last night when under no pressure. I'd be dropping him for Denmark and bringing in Anthony Gordon or Cole Palmer. Foden is a good enough player that he should be able to do much better than last night regardless of being on the wide left. Alexander-Arnold clearly doesn't have the composure to play alongside Rice when it comes to facing better teams than Serbia. That role is crying out for Wharton. Hopefully Adam gets a chance to start against Slovenia if we beat Denmark. The above being said, the score could've easily been 3 nil with Walker's bursting run in the first half (not sure whether the nudge from their defender put him off but I don't know why he didn't just put his foot through it), and the wonderful save from the Serbian keeper to deny Kane in the 2nd half. Ultimately, nothing I saw convinced me that England can go all the way. If anything they look a bit weaker than in the previous 2 tournaments to me, despite the undoubted talent of Bellingham. -
If someone is willing to pay roughly what we paid for Wahlstedt then simply take it and move on. Its a risk to hope that he comes good when Rovers can't afford to take risks on players. I'd much prefer us bring in a solid number one to take over from Pears but I can't see that happening. More likely that someone like Ruddy comes in as backup.

Nah, surely your owners aren't that silly.

I thought Frank Lampard was the definition of failing upwards, but it seems Kompany has outdone Frank here. He might well turn out to be a very good coach long term, but getting such a huge job after ultimately failing at Burnley is pretty wild. That being said, what is he, Bayern's 9th choice or something? They have been getting desperate in the last few weeks.

Next season’s line up
sharpysharps86 replied to wilsdenrover's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Pears is a good instinctive shot stopper. I think his downfall is whenever he is given more time to think about what he's doing, he perhaps panics or overthinks it and it results in a mistake. A lot of his mistakes are from not doing the basics right (e.g. the headed clearances against Plymouth and Sheff W, the own goal against Sheff W, the Ipswich goal from the other week, etc.). He needs to improve mentally for sure, or he'll continue in the same way for the remainder of his career. Either way, we definitely need a new goalkeeper to come in and challenge for the number 1 shirt as Wahlstedt isn't up to it and needs loaning out for a season (or sold if they can get a decent fee for him). Anyway, getting back on topic with this thread, if 3 signings was the maximum then this is how I'd line Rovers up based on the current squad, so Sammie stays in there at the moment because he is still our player until he's not: If playing 3 CBs: New Carter New Pickering Brittain Tronstad JRC Hedges Szmodics Dolan New If playing a back 4: New Brittain Carter New Pickering Travis Tronstad JRC Szmodics New Hedges -
Not overly surprised. It stank of desperation and was proven to be just that after about 20 mins at Deepdale. Having said that, I feel like Broughton's been operating with both hands tied behind his back since midway through the last summer window, so desperation signings have been the territory that he's been having to operate in.

If Chrisene is available at a reasonable price then I'd say he's worth a punt. Would be a good squad player and is useful with his versatility down the left. Likewise Ayari looks like he has something about him, but probably needs another loan at Championship level to continue his development, so again I wouldn't be against him returning for a full season long loan. Regarding outgoings. The following IMO definitely need to be let go: Gallagher (He's had his time. Either activate extension and then try and sell for a fee or just let him go for nowt) Wahlstedt (Try and sell) Telalovic (Try and sell) Koumetio (End of loan) Fleck (End of contract) Moran (End of loan) Markanday (Try and sell) Garrett (Send on loan) You can probably add one or two more to that list as well! The concern is that replacing the above is going to be a big enough job before trying to add to a paper thin squad. I think that's been a huge part of the downfall this season, so many times we've looked to the bench and the subs have had zero impact because they're simply not good enough.
-
Rovers stay up and Burnley now all but relegated with Forest also winning. They should be confirmed as down next weekend away at Spurs Will be very interesting what happens with Burnley in the summer, whether Kompany stays or not.
-
Yeah Travis probably needs a move elsewhere at this point, but it won't be to Ipswich. He was very much a bit-part player for them, sometimes not getting off the bench. I'm not sure he starts for Rovers anyway, I'd have him as back-up to Tronstad while JRC needs to stay in the middle as well, where he can make more impact on games than at RB. So he'd be third choice at best. He is a squad player wherever he goes IMO unless he drops down to League One.

John Eustace - our head coach
sharpysharps86 replied to chaddyrovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I'm not sure Broughton even gets much say at this point. Would've be surprised if he's moved on in the summer. The jury is still out on Eustace, as it should be...but he now deserves a pre-season and a transfer window to try and shape a group of players into a cohesive unit that actually has something about them. Granted recruitment isn't fully down to him, but it's his job to coach the group and make them a team, as it was JDT's job before him. The fact that he hasn't managed a win at Ewood yet though is awful. He has a lot of work to do with this squad. Hopefully it's the last time we've seen some of them in Rovers shirts today. Gallagher immediately springs to mind. -
We are extremely fortunate that there was one other football club that's shot themselves in the foot repeatedly this season. Ironically that all started for Birmingham when they sacked our current manager. Rovers should never, ever have been in this situation this season. I don't think anyone particularly expected us to be top 6, but to be in the relegation fight with only 6 home wins all season was pathetic...and it all started when the CEO decided to do an interview in pre-season and say 'survival is the aim'. That statement set the tone for everything that proceeded to happen. We should also be grateful that Leicester already had the title wrapped up, as that would've been a very different story today had they still needed a win to secure the trophy.
