Certainly not defending JDT too much. We’ve mostly won games by accident it feels. Guess there’s two ways of looking at it, either that’s a really good thing for a team who SHOULD improve more and more with new additions and time with a new system in general or the style of play just isn’t very good and we’ve been extremely fortunate to accrue the points we have now. I personally felt people were looking at Wharton through blue and white glasses last season, which is understandable. His form this season isn’t that different to last, let’s remember he was a constant in a team that was diabolical in the 2nd half of last season. He was gifting the ball to the opposition as much last season, even without the stupid incessant passing around at the back of this season. All that said, hope he turns it around and becomes the solid defender he’s shown himself to be at times

Walcott being touted for a loan move to the Championship. Would take him for a season if wage contribution wasn’t too high. Good pro to have around, could surely offer something.

But that’s the nature of the market at the moment for the Championship. How many teams have signed an out and out goalscorer permanently? There won’t be many. It’s always a risk. At least we’re trying before we’re buying. If it doesn’t work, we don’t pay. Better than having someone on the books that we’ve massively paid over the odds for and can’t hit a a barn door.

A little harsh to judge someone based on their past issues/mistakes. Lad seems to have got his career back on track since. If anything he can point that out to younger players as an example of what not to do.

As I said, loved him. I just remember being at that Wigan cup game when we played 2 at the back, as we did against Fulham when he got the red and he looked suspect in both. If the plan is to play 3 cbs then I’ll go pick him up myself

I love van Hecke as much as the next fan, but if we’re playing 4 at the back over 5 then I’m not sure he’s suited. He was brilliant as a central defender in a 3, sweeper style, but there were times in a back 4 he seemed too rash at times, left us in trouble more often than should have been

I’d pinpointed this weekends game as our first defeat of the season after the first 3 wins. The fact we’re heading there after being hammered by a dire Reading team fills me with all sorts of dread and an expectation of a pummelling. They’ll stick Sharp on Phillips and he’ll have a torrid time.

From Manchester and not a Rovers fan. Rovers picked him up early teens, was told Crystal Palace were the main other team in for him at the time but obviously Rovers made more sense for a lad still at school in Manchester

Phil Jones had a cracking debut against a top Chelsea team, little bit older than Phillips at the time but still goes to show a youngster can thrive in that situation. I say give Phillips the chance to prove himself. Could add a couple of million to his price tag if he excels
