  1. I can't see venkys a) wanting to fund us or b) having the cashflow to be able to fund us. If Venkys really aren't going to fund the August payroll, the first firm clue would be not putting money through next week. Quite why Venkys would want to spin it out that long, I don't know. Venkys own 28 foreign companies and I doubt the future is particularly rosy for any.
  2. The Holtby story is one such. From the time a GK, LB and CB were signed on loan, Mowbray's known we needed permanents signings and it reflects badly on him and the club's chances going forward that no action has yet been taken. Of course, we'd all like the players who step up to be more than capable, but there's no guarantee they will be.
  3. Thanks for providing the link to Timo. Are you endorsing these players?
  4. You've nailed that one.We all hope Armstrong is not on his way anywhere
  5. "is worth a punt".According to the wiki he was praised for his fantastic workrate back in 2012.Scored 1 goal every 4 games. I can see the parallels with Graham. Slightly better than Rudy's career strike rate. Martin hasn't had Rudy's injury problems.my preference is still for Rudy. Maybe it's the nostalgia. This is a transfer thread?I'd never have guessed. ?
  6. So he is. I was trying to have a bit of fun. Kind of needed a ? to make the point. @Dreams of 1995 Yep, you've got the reasons down pat.We all want something substantive out of Ewood Park on transfers I thought you'd rather be called excited than desperate. I can't see an affordable deal that would bring Cunningham back here. The only name I can get somewhat excited about is the possible return of Rudy. Not only would both Martin and Rudy expect more than we can probably afford to pay them, they'd also expect to start. @Bigdoggsteel A 12 goal a season striker would go a long way to solving our goal scoring problem ?
  7. @Dreams of 1995 You're too easily excited. Of the names of defenders on @Bbrovers2288's list - none of the above. Of the goalkeepers Timo Letschert looks worth a punt. Forwards, aren't a priority, but I would would prefer Rudy over Martin. The offer to Downing needs to be withdrawn. On all the players mentioned, the key thing that is missing is focus.
  8. I'd guess that it's 'How can the women's team sign 6 and the men's zip?'.
  9. You said that we don't need a training camp because the players have only been off for three weeks. You're implying that they will have maintained fitness levels. That is saying everything is hunky dory. I'm not making anything up. There is no guarantee that fitness levels will have been maintained. In the modern game fitness is everything. Each season raises that fitness bar. A team can play really well for 80 minutes, become tired and the other team proceeds to win the game, because they can outlast you. I've already disagreed with you.Returning players do not need things sorted. I've said players coming up from the U23s and players coming back from being out on loan need to be properly integrated into the team. That seems so self-evident that I wonder why I have to repeat myself. After the prolonged break necessitated by the corona virus shutdown,it looked as though our players needed more work on fitness, not less, from the game reports I read. I'll agree with you in that adopting a new fitness regime over a 7 week off-season means you'll be further into it than in a 3 week off-season.Was that the big difference you were think of?
  10. It's why companies do team bonding exercises away from regular workhaunts. It does build team spirit.I don't particularly care what other teams are or are not doing, because what matters is what Blackburn Rovers aren't doing. Changing the start to a pre-season is a disruption to routine and that does have an impact. Just as people won't know what fitness work is required, until that is assessed. It doesn't matter that its 'only' 3 weeks and not 7. You and others are saying that everything is hunky dory. It's exactly what 'supporters' of companies say, right before said company goes belly up.
  11. Of course there are new faces. Players from the U23s who haven't been involved before. Players who've returned from season long loans. Players need to get used to routine away from distractions of home. Players who are returning don't need anything sorted. How do you know what pre-season fitness work is needed? Team won't know until they're assessed - at training camp.
  12. Yes. Change of scenery. They've been on holiday. Now, they're back at work.
  13. In the first place it is not the same squad as last season. In the second, even a couple of days away is a change of scenery and beneficial In the third place, the first week back for players has been spent away at training camp for as long as I can remember under Venkys. When did I mention Scotland? We play our first pre-season game away at Fleetwood. We don't even have to leave Lancashire to go on a training camp.Players do kind of expect it.
  14. The only reason for not going on training camp this week is the lack of money. There is no other reason.Lack of money is every reason to be more than concerned.
  15. He never looks very happy doing so. Before Mowbray came here, he had a reputation as a ruthless disciplinarian.
  16. He's probably still better than either Bell or Williams. I think Roy Keane knows people, he just doesn't want to play games. He believes every player should approach the game with the same dedication and intensity that he did. Were he here, in charge ,it wouldn't be one hairdryer he'd be throwing, he'd have bought a job lot. 'Course players would run through concrete to get away from him.
  17. IoBet decided we were noBet Is the reason that Lancashire Telegraph his the story behind a firewall that someone is too embarrassed to have the story 'out there'? Strange how the local reporters don't ever ask the now ex-sponsors, kit manufacturers, corporate sponsors or any other supplier to Blackburn Rovers how they look upon our club. There's hardly a story about what the Community Trust is doing out in the community.Yes, very strange for owners that make so much of their community outreach.
  18. Pensive? Looks like a man about to let someone have it right between the eyes.
  19. The reason given in the press for the EFL action against Cellino was the Calgiari vat case. Not countered by the EFL, either. How long before convictions are 'spent' in Italy? 5 years? 10 years? You weren't expressing an opinion, you were making a demand. I could read the obituaries page; it doesn't mean I'm dead. I consider you a Venkys shill and not a fan.
  20. My thought too. I can see the club putting informal offers to Charlton for Phillips and have been quoted a figure that would secure the player. That may have been done for several targets. Mowbray knows how much it will cost to acquire and pay the targets.Ultimately, his pitch is '"We've a decent nucleus of players, keep them together, bring these players in and I guarantee promotion.' @BRFC4EVAThe last player we signed from New Zealand turned out to be a real good'un. I read chaddyrovers for the options the club is considering, paul mani for what the club really wants to do .Based on that logic, since paul mani felt the need to defend mashed potatoes, he must be on a club retainer. @herbie6590 Leeds United chairman Massimo Cellino is cleared by Italian 10/12/15 and Italian court finds Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino not 09/05/2016. Twice cleared on a case involving tax on an imported range rover. So, no, Cellino is not a convicted criminal.
  21. Forgive me, if I take that with a very large pinch of salt.
  22. First you're making a link that I have not. Second are you qualified to discuss grounds?
  23. I see. Then that that would be a 'no' The EFL were determined to remove Cellino and did so.
  24. Okay. that's your choice. As a player you face the prospect of another relegation or being converted from the position you're so good at.To my mind there are factors that don't make the choice so clear cut.
