  1. If you're in a team that won 5-0 last time out, you'd expect to start the next match. Sure, Mowbray keeping the same team is such a rarity that it's worthy of comment. I don't ascribe motives of contract issues with Nyambe. I'd have preferred Nyambe in and Bell out, but I don't get to pick the team. I'm certainly ticking the 'keep the same team, consistency' box. A lot of of us want Mowbray to play a settled side and can hardly criticise him for doing what we want. Last week, I think, set the standard Mowbray wants. If players meet those, they'll keep the shirt. If others want to get in the team, they'll have to show better in training or substitute appearances..
  2. You're entitled to your view. It is, however, a fact that Raya won the Golden Gloves with Brentford, last season. If you're crowing about a defence that conceded 63 goals, you're in far more of a murky hole than @Angry_Pirate . It is fact that Walton was personally responsible for goals that cost us points. Mowbray would have slagged off Raya each and every time. He only did it once to Walton, presumably because Brighton told him not to. How many goals? My own feeling is that it was 10 goals and 10 points. It's the sort of stat @JoeH might have to hand. Like you, however, I don't feel comfortable pointing at one player and saying "you cost us promotion".
  3. It would appear, reading what Mowbray has said about transfers, that Venkys have approved either one more player in on a transfer or a couple in on loans. The article didn't read like money in from sell-ons would change his transfer budget. If Ryan Manning is the LB, we're set to sign, we should. For this stage of the season, including the U23s, our injury list is more than a little alarming. We've what, 10 players injured? Mowbray did talk about wanting a second goalkeeper, a second CB, a CM and CF. Win at Derby and/or more injuries and Mowbray may have a chance of getting more from Venkys, though I wouldn't count my chickens.
  4. Thanks. I was scrolling through pages on google getting more and more frustrated at not being able to find the answer.
  5. Mowbray wouldn't comment on a transfer, whoever we're signing. The contrast between how Mowbray talks about Bell as compared with Nyambe couldn't be more stark.
  6. Gallagher has no wish to be a winger, just to be played as a striker. Last January, we won 5-0 away at Sheff Wed with just as fine a performance. Many claimed it was the start of a new dawn. Sadly, it wasn't. Today should therefore come with a 'health warning'. There are some differences. This was the third successive such performance. A Blackburn Rovers scored a hattrick. I can't remember the last time that happened. I was not pleased that Nyambe got left out or that Brereton was taken off. I thought there was a goal for Brereton in the game today. I don't think Chapman offered anything over Brereton, today. It's hard to remember that Dolan was signed to play for our U23s, at times. He's taken his chance well. Made the most of his opportunity. Last season, we lost to teams we should have easily beaten on paper. Today, we beat such a team on the pitch and met the expectations of Mercer, for one.
  7. Your comment had no business in this thread. Try keeping your mind, such as it is, out of the gutter.
  8. So you don't think they'll all be substituted during the match, do you?
  9. Yes. That would be Mowbray's way. I can see that entire midfield being pulled off at some point.
  10. Change his name by deedpoll to Bennett. In the LT article about his team selection against Newcastle, Mowbray said he wasn't going to protect any player from getting injured.
  11. Mowbray treats them like schoolboys, so it's no real surprise they act like it, from time to time. Mowbray micromanages everyone and everything on the pitch. If he doesn't tell someone to organise the defence, they won't. Sure better players help, but it's down to Mowbray and I don't see him changing.
  12. The appointment of Coyle instead of Warnock was no laughing matter. It would have been us promoted and not Cardiff.
  13. JRC is not a RW of a front 3. His natural position is as RH.That is the position he made his own in the U23s. I think Whiteman is too like Travis for them to play well together. You're sick of playing people out of position, yet want us to sign a midfielder to play out of position, whilst Travis is out injured.
  14. Which is why Buckley ought to get the nod. Davenport strikes me more as a LH in 3 man midfield.Davenport can't get the experience,if he doesn't play full matches.
  15. Using Magloire like that has crossed my mind, too. Likewise, using Rothwell as an enforcer in the the middle third of the pitch. Game plans that primarily use our fullbacks as fullbacks and not as wing backs would be something I'd prefer. As you say, thinking outside the box.
  16. It does, if you expect that goalkeeper to compete with Kaminski and not be a no 2.Would Pears even be a No 2?
  17. Holtby - Who knows? Enjoy it whilst it lasts. Johnson - move on Evans - not injured all the time Davenport - it's Mowbray who picks the team Rothwell - CM, as he doesn't appear to fit anywhere else JRC - Never said he is a CM, he's a RH in old parlance We have more than enough cover in the midfield and other priorities that need addressing.
  18. It makes no sense to spend money on a CM, who won't play after Travis recovers. It makes more sense to sign Dillon Phillips to compete with Kaminski than continuing to try to sign Pears. Travis out injured is good for Holtby, who's playing in Travis' natural position and for JRC whose natural position is on the right of a midfield 2/3.The only position Brereton hasn't played is in the slot behind Armstrong, where Dack would play. I think Armstrong playing as the 1 in a 4-2-3-1 is his best position. Gallagher won't play RW and Mowbray won't play him. We've got an injury situation that's nothing short of alarming with Travis, Dack, Gallagher, Vale, Butterworth, and Johnson all injured. I don't know what the situation is with Evans. Mowbray regards him as a 'top man'; Evans may want to play to be in the 'shop window'. As for Mulgrew, it seems to me the best solution would be for Fleetwood to pay what they can and put the 'remainder' to be paid as a promotion bonus. It appears to me that Holtby and Johnson have 60-70 minutes in the tank, like an electric car that will get you near where you want to go, but won't go all the way, like ex-girlfriends. :Playing those two means you'd be planning to bring on 2 subs. I'd use Buckley and Davenport or Rothwell and Buckley. There''s Lyons waiting his turn, too. A new LB is critical. Playing well, but losing was the epitaph of Mowbray's West Brom's one season in the Premnier League under him. It's no guarantee of results. As Souness' charge up the table to overtake Bolton for second proved playing well followed results.
  19. Pleased with this signing. Well done to Mowbray going back in for Ayala.
  20. At no time have i written that Armstrong is trying to sabotage the team. He sure seemed to have a beef with Holtby. I have no inkling that Armstrong wants to leave and will pull a Duffy to do so.I think he'll want to shine for us in front of Newcastle fans.
  21. It's really quite easy. The sooner we're a Wigan or Bolton, the sooner Venkys will be gone and rebuilding this club can begin.
  22. Mowbray surprises 'everybody' and brings Evans in for the injured Johnson and keeps the same team.
  23. We didn’t lose because we ‘overcommitted. We lost because we couldn’t defend. Bournemouth worked out how to exploit our weaknesses. They would know from tape that Bell never stops a winger putting the ball in or back across. It’s how he’s been coached. It’s a very stupid decision on Mowbray’s part to play 433, when it’s not been perfected on the training field. Defending with a 4-3 is in two banks; one of 4 and one of 3 to close down and to pick up players coming in. It is not stringing 7 players on the edge of the penalty area and say that they’re defending. They are not. That was two of their goals. The third was blamed on Dolan by Mowbray. Most teams don’t concede when all their other players are behind the ball. Had Dolan come through our Academy, he wouldn’t have been on the pitch. Why didn’t Mowbray tear a strip off all the other outfield players who all also conceded possession during the match? Lenihan reacts late to the striking cutting across the face of the goal, buys the look that says the striker will go backout wide and the striker gets off his shoulder and scores. Another poster has commented that this is a known weakness of Lenihan. Known, but still not corrected. Our goals: Johnson shot, because no-one wanted the ball off him. It turns out the opposition keeper didn’t want the ball off him, either. Armstrong took the ball off Holtby. The ugly: Armstrong deliberately waiting until Holtby was marginally offside before playing him in. The smile on the asst. refs face said he knew what Armstrong was doing. Evans passing, when scoring was easier. The difference between Evans playing for us and Northern Ireland is that he’s not micro-managed playing for Northern Ireland. Pretty ballsy thing for Evans to do. We’ve now conceded 8 goals in 5 games with Bell at LB. Mowbray is not thick, apparently. A new left back is critical. By all accounts, Williams had another businesslike game. Nothing to put either DC United or LA Galaxy off putting a transfer bid in for him. Playing Holtby and Johnson meant both Travis and JRC were played out of position. If Holtby and Johnson are in the shopwindow, I’ve got no issue with their playing once. They were two of our highest rated players. It’s not just that I wanted them out at the beginning of the close season, I don’t see them fitting in the team. They keep Evans out and two other players out of position. Mowbray’s West Brom were praised for their entertaining football in their one season in the Premier League with him as manager. I’d rather have someone of rather more ‘limited football’ that gets us promoted, like Chris Hughton (I’m pulling a chaddyrovers here and not endorsing Hughton. He’s just an example of the type.).
  24. Two players Dunn wants to take on loan. Be good for both players to get a full season under their belt. I'd prefer a higher league.I wouldn't be averse to their going to Wycombe or Coventry City on loan.
