  1. I haven't heard the new Editors stuff. An End Has A Start was a great album. My sister did an interview with Band Of Sculls when they played in Belfast a few months ago. She said that they were total idiots.
  2. I'm looking forward to hearing it. The guy is nice. No one is better than Lil Wayne though. The guy is a complete genius. There's some stuff that I'm not too keen on, but when you here something you see how good he really is.
  3. I went to see Rage Against The Machine on Tuesday night at the 02 Arena in Dublin. It was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. Really powerful stuff. They played all the classics which is exactly what you want to hear, including People Of The Sun, Testify, Guerilla Radio, Killing In The Name Of and my personal favourite Know Your Enemy. An all round great night that fully justified the pretty hefty 70 euro I dropped on the tickets.
  4. I saw it last weekend. It's not a bad show. It's like Pirates Of The Caribbean in the desert. Some of the stunts and free running that we love from the game look great and Gemma Arterton is stunning. Some of it isn't great, with some poor dialogue. But overall it's a good popcorn movie, that isn't going to win Oscars, but isn't going to offend anyone either. I watched the Wolfman last night and enjoyed it. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be or had been told that it was.
  5. McCarthy gained, that's the problem! Unreal that the guy wouldn't get in shape to play in the World Cup in front of his own people. Says a lot about the guy's attitude and motivation.
  6. I saw Robin Hood last night and thought that it was ok. It was pretty slow and cumbersome at some points, but it looked great and I got the feeling that it was more about setting up the sequel where the character really can come alive. Not a patch on Prince Of Thieves all the same!
  7. I echo that. I was convinced that we would need him to stay up. I'm glad that we did get rid of him. Goes to show that the guy is to blame for the shape he is in and not anything the club were doing.
  8. Saw this on You Tube last night. He's already been on the Ellen DeGeneres show. Great talent. Hope he goes on to wipe the floor with that little Beiber nonce!
  9. I was disappointed by Clash Of The Titans. It was one of those movies that I had been looking forward to for ages. There were parts of it which I really enjoyed. But some of it was awful. I really enjoyed Centurion. I agree that the first 15 minutes weren't great. I would have loved to have known how he escaped at the beginning! But the rest of it was good. It was gory, but I found it easier to watch than say Braveheart. The scenes in that movie where the wife has her throat slit and then Mel slits the Lords throat, I just can't watch. Iron Man 2, Robin Hood and Prince of Persia are next on the list for me too. I would also recommend The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. It's one of the best movies I've seen in a while. It's quite disturbing and there's an awful rape scene in it. But the storyline is fantastic and there's a great atmosphere to it. It also doesn't look like a movie if you know what I mean. It looks more like a TV drama with the way it has been shot. A bloody brilliant TV drama! I've been watching it too. It's quite good, but it's not a patch on Band Of Brothers. You don't have the same emotional involvement with the characters in The Pacific as you do in BOB. In BOB, you get to the know the characters over a couple of episodes as they train for war and as such, you actually care about them. In The Pacific, the first episode shows the men at home before going to war, but for whatever reason, I just didn't warm to them in the same way. It's a good show, it looks great and a lot of money has obviously been spent on it. But BOB is far grittier, looks better and far more realistic.
  10. My Dad is the same. We have a holiday home about 20 miles from Lorient and when we are over we go and a catch a game if they are at home. I've been to the Stade Moustoir to see five or six games down the years. They are currently redeveloping it and it will look well. Christian Gourcuff is by far the biggest asset the club has. He has turned some unheard of players into real stars in France. Michael Ciani was a rock in their defence for years and moved to Bordeaux last season. He's recently been called up into the French team. Fabrice Abriel is another good player, who got a big move to Marseille and is one of their key players. Lorient is a small city, with a pleasant city centre and marina, but which is predominantly working class. Like Rovers, they have punched above their weight and this down to Gourcuff. He wanted to quit at the end of last season, but the Chairman wouldn't let him. Marama Vaihura is good player for them, as is Kevin Gramerio, but I think they have found their level in France. I would be a huge Rennes fan and was at the Breton derby in November at the Stade De La Route De Lorient. It's one of my favourite grounds. There's always a great buzz outside the stadium before hand. I always feel that they should do better in the league. They do think that they have the ability to break into the group of title contenders. They certainly have the finances, with their billionaire owner. However, their youth academy is incredible and they make a real point of producing players for the first team, instead of just relying on the owners money. They beat Valenciennes away from home to night and of the 11 that started, Yann M'Vila, Fabian Lemoine, Slyvain Marveaux and Jimmy Briand all came through the academy. Their bench is mostly made of players developed from the academy. They are just too inconsistent at the moment, to really challenge for the top 3 and Champions League football. Rennes is about an hour from our house, so I try to get to see them each time I'm over.
  11. I went to see Crazy Heart on Wednesday night and thought that it was superb. Jeff Bridges really gives a career defining performance. It's a very sad movie and that's what makes it so good. I wouldn't be a fan of country music at all, but the stuff in this is fantastic. I would highly recommend this movie.
  12. I saw Solomon Kane last night and it's a good show. You know exactly what you are getting when you see the trailer. Don't expect anything more than a dark fantasy movie, with a good amount of swash buckling action. There's a lot of things out at the moment which I want to see. I'm going to Crazy Horse later on this evening. The Crazies, Green Zone and Food Inc are all on the list of movies to be seen this month.
  13. I read the book in about four days. It's a quick read, so you'll get it in before it's out of the cinema.
  14. I saw Up In The Air a few weeks ago and thought it was excellent. It was able to capture the intangible monotony of a corporate employee, traveling across America's flyover states, and living between the plane, the airport, the airport hotel and faceless business that run America and the tiny details that make up this world, that when put in front of you, you recognise. I would highly recommend this movie.
  15. He has done none of these things and even though I would like to hold onto him, his inconsistent form, lack of fitness and being out of shape, has made it very hard for him to play regularly. In saying that, he can't say that he hasn't been getting much football lately, because he has. Yeah there have been some games when he has been on the bench, but I'd say that he has started a lot of our last 10 to 12 games. As others people have stated, ever since he had his big move to Chelsea blocked, he hasn't performed to nearly the same level. It's crucial that if he is sold, that he is replaced, because a strike force of Di Santo, Kalinic and Roberts isn't enough for the remainder of the season.
  16. I saw it this evening. A brilliant movie! Raw and hard hitting, but totally fantastic.
  17. I've seen a couple of really good movies over the last week, which were downloaded from the internet. The first one was The Blind Side staring Sandra Bullock and Tim McGraw and is based the fantastic book The Blind Side. I saw the trailer for this quite some time ago and it really grabbed my attention and when I found out it was based on a true story I was even more interested. Due to the fact that there appears to be no release date for it over here, my brother downloaded it. The book and the movie tell the story of a guy called Michael Oher who is from a broken home and has grown up in absolute poverty in Memphis. A friends father manages to get him and his friend into a rich private Christian school. While there, he has no real place to live and drifts from place to place. One of the families at the school, the Tuohy's, notice him one day walking in the freezing cold in a t-shirt and shorts, which were are his only clothes and take him home. He eventually ends up living with them in an extreme case of Christian charity. These people are extremely wealthy and provide Michael Oher with the basic things he never had and more. The fact that he is 6ft 4', weighs over 300 pounds and has great natural athletic ability, were some of the attributes which made him such a good football player in the key position of left tackle, protecting the quarter backs blind side and which lead him to gaining a scholarship to the Univerity of Mississippi and eventually being drafted by the Baltimore Ravens. It's a remarkable story and the movie really does the book justice. And this is the movie trailer. Two other great movies I saw are The Hurt Locker and Brothers. I missed getting to see The Hurt Locker when it was in the cinema and I understand why it got such great reviews. It is easily one of the best movies of 2009. Brothers stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Toby Maguire (who I always thought looked a like). It's about two brothers, one being a soldier and one being a layabout and looks at how their positions change within the family as the result of one going off to war. I'm not sure when this is on general release, but it is well worth watching.
  18. I do think that we need to keep hold of Benni. Even though he has only scored one league goal all season, I would have more faith in him adding to his tally than any of our other strikers at the moment. I don't see how he can be complaining about playing time at the moment though. He has started the last 5 out of 6 games if I'm not mistaken and has played a large majority of minutes in those games. So he can't say that he isn't getting much game time. If by his own words, he's overweight, then it is down to him to lose it. If he is being bought in earlier than everyone else to do work, then it's because of this and not because he's playing worse than anyone else. This idea of needing to be loved again is total balls. If he scored more goals and won us more games, then I'm sure people would be happier. I doubt we could get more than £2 million for him anyway and what is that going to buy us?
  19. Saw it the other night there, it absolutely unreal! Go and see it.
  20. The new Robin Hood trailer looks pretty sick! Robin Hood trailer.
  21. I've recently been listening to an American band called Rise Against. They are a political group like Rage Against The Machine (who are one of my all time favourite bands), but aren't quite as heavy. Some of their lyrics are fantastic. Check out this song, . If you like Rage Against The Machine, you should like these guys.
  22. It's supposed to be unbelievable! I can't wait to see it myself. Other ones that I'm looking forward to seeing are The Road, Capitalism: a Love Story, The Blindside and Prophet. I read Cormac McCarthy's book The Road last week and loved it. The movie looks pretty good as well. I thought he drove up from San Diego and they were living in L.A?
  23. Far from it. It's very good. It taps into the whole idea of primal fear. The last 20 minutes is particularly good. Agree with you on Harry Brown though. I thought it was a fantastic movie.
  24. I'm ashamed to say that I watched the first Twilight movie. My sister bought on DVD a couple of months ago, after seeing 2 or 3 times in the cinema. Even though she said it was cack, it was one of those guilty pleasure movies that everyone watches. She convinced me to watch it, warning me how bad it was and the ridiculous overacting that takes place. I have a very low tolerance for embarrassing or uncomfortable situations in real life or even watching stuff on TV or at the movies, so I wasn't hopeful about my ability to watch this movie. The first 20 minutes wasn't that bad, but by the end of it, I was watching it through me fingers, such were the cringing scenes and moments of dialogue. I can't imagine New Moon being much better.
  25. I went to see it the other night and it's yet another great effort from Michael Caine. From the very beginning when you see some louts anti-social activities recorded on their mobile phones, to the quiet, simplicity of Caine's life, you get a sense foreboding in how these two worlds will mix. It's a brilliant movie, which leaves you wondering about the way society has turned and the youth culture of today and makes you ask yourself if would really care if such pond life, was taught a lesson like Caine's?
