  1. In every competition they've played in for the past few years up until this qualification phase they have done well against the smaller sides (with a couple of exceptions being Northern Ireland and I suppose you could say Sweden as well).

and Trinidad and Tobago and Paraguay and Ecuador and the Republic of Macedonia and Israel and Austria and Poland and Azerbaijan and Denmark and Wales and .....................

  2. Someone recomended to me that I rented out Pans Labyrinth. Having never heard of it I rented it 'blind' and was annoyed to discover it was in spanish with english subtitles. Normally I just can't get into films with subtitles. However I gave it a chance tonight and the film was superb. If anyone likes these sort of movies ( a bit wierd) I recommend them to get it and give it a chance. You'll not be disappointed.

I will third that, one of the most brilliant movies I have ever seen.

  3. My drivel is simply that England have good enough players to compete with Italy, I don't think they would laugh at that. I can certainly tell you that French fooball fans have a huge amount of respect for the English game and the England team and probably think more of it then most Englishman. They would certainly think that England are at least on a par with them.

    Here we go again :lol::rolleyes:

Hopefully there is room for Bentley in the qualifier, I think England are going to struggle to qualify so I hope he gets a run to show his worth.

  4. Why you think Benni would have any more difficulty then he has this year is amazing, Benni McCarthy has been a World Class striker for a number of years now yet he still has his doubters, what does this man have to do in his footballing career to get some respect?

Can't believe there are still those out there who keep this love of Craig Bellamy. A lot are the same hypocrites who bag Neill

  5. Darren Bent 2.5m, with the same service Benni has had.

I'm not denying Benni's scoring or the fact he was a very economical signing I'm trying to highlight his undeniable weakness - that he switches off after he has scored.

If Alan Shearer had that attitude do you think we would have been Champions 12 years ago (today to be precise)?

The first thing is that Benni is no Shearer, and never will he be.

Secondly you are talking about two completely different era's of Rovers history, we played different, we had a completely different midfield servicing the forward line and we spent millions to win the Premiership.

If we had spent as much in today's money as we did back then, I would have us at least in the top four if not three.

Once again though Benni is not Shearer, and it unfair to compare him so, 31 goals in 35 games will never be repeated by another Rovers player.

EDIT: Granted we could have signed Bent two years ago for 2.5, but certainly not at the same time Benni came on the market

  6. Good to see you are expecting it

I posted this before so I will pose the Q it to you -

Name another striker you could purchase for 3 million pound that would have returned what Benni has OVER THE SEASON

Roberts, Derbs and Nonda simply would NOT have scored at the rate you have stated over 46 games

Without Benni we would have been fighting for our premiership survival

  7. Would you rather they spoke in that Aussie tone that sounds like they're asking a question? even when they're not? And then they add that slightly whiny quality some Australians have when they speak?

Nah, they should have all put on p_ss-take New Zealand accents. "Wi mahst fight to tha dith bros. Are you with me?" "YIS!" The film would probably be much better.

Never fancied 300. From the clips I saw, it looked like a load of men in pants shouting. No story, or characterisation. It's a shame as the story behind the Greco-Persian war would make a great film. This is coming from someone who loves all the old epics from the 1950's and 60's, especially El Cid.

    Um no......

I would have preferred? a pommy actor with a soft accent? who could still give the? strong? performance without the requirement to think I was watching a Scottish version of Braveheart.

And let Flopsy use the term 'stylised graphic novel' instead of comic otherwise he will sound like a fanboy

  8. Saw 300 last week, forgot to say I though it was actually pretty crap.

Fight scenes were fine but no backstory so i didn't connect with the characters, I really didn't give two hoots if they died or not.

Oh and the Scottish accent was too strong which ended up annoying me

  9. Street Fighter, Doom, Mortal Kombat, Wing Commander, Super Mario Bros...

...the list of rubbish films from computer games is seemingly endless.

######, the ones I mentioned were excellent movies

Forgot about Street Fighter. That really stank, but thankfully it wasn't Raul Julio's last film before he died. Even that didn't finish Jean-Claude Van Damme's career though.

Watched Street Fighter again the other day, for all it's faults (and Kylie Minogue's horrendous acting) it is one of the few game to movies that stuck pretty much smack bang in line with the game story

  10. Was that a computer game before the film? I don't know as it was about 1982 when the film was out, so I would have been 1. That would be the exception to the rule though, you'd have to admit.

Resident Evil, Tombraider, Final Fantasy, Pirates of the Carribean (inspired by the Monkey Island series), The Wizard, AVP

and of course we have some in production that I am eagerly anticipating Max Payne, Halo and Far Cry

I really don't think they'll be laughing their arses off at all, in fact the superhero stuff are very popular to all ages. It's pure escapism.Incidentally they do box sets to cater for all types, even the more intelletually challenged Barry Norman types.

Add me to the list of fans of superhero to comic movies, fact still stands though...those movies blew

  11. Have i got the right one, is that the one with Elektra, because i enjoyed the movie, but it was a very sad ending.

I've not seen Elektra yet, but i got Daredevil, Elektra, and Extrodinary Gents on one of those 3 movies box sets.

Why are all the movies always in widescreen.I use pc to play dvds, but i need to buy a proper dvd recorder,I'm just old fashoined lol, I can't get out of habit of VHS.I think somebody told me with a proper dvd player, that you can change the widescreen and view any way you want.

    I'm a techno phope lol. :o

The unholy trinity of disappointing "comic to movie"

I bet the guys putting the box set together were laughing their arses off

  12. Wasn't The Departed loosely based on the Hong Kong film Internal Affairs, which may have starred Chun Yow Fat?

Yes and I was just saying that The Oscars are a stinking pile of turd with steam coming out the top.

Greatest Scorsese movie? I'd have to go for this one...

I think equal to Casino, Gangs of New York and Cape Fear, god that man has made some good movies

  13. I think I read that it would cost £2.5m to sack McClaren (not bad for doing a rubbish job) and the loss in revenue from not qualifying would be £100m+ so on the money front it's no contest.

On a separate topic, there has been a lot of critisism for England, but if you look at the other qualifying groups some of the other big teams are doing equally as bad - France 3rd, Italy 4th,Spain 3rd, Norway 4th, Denmark 4th - so I suppose it's not just England players underperforming.

In saying that though the other groups do look a little tougher on paper, Italy, France and Ukraine in the same group with a Scotland team who is performing extremely well at home, Spain, Denmark and Sweden with a rampaging Northern Ireland, Norway with Bos-Herz, Turkey, Greece

I still see England qualifying though
