He's not really a winger though is he ? He just occupies that area of the pitch sniffing out goalscoring opportunities. Being fair to the lad when they come along he puts them away.

I agree with a lot of that Stuart. We certainly have " an embarrassment of riches " at this level. However I don't see Antonnson as a utility player. He seems more suited to that floating left sided auxiliary striker role that he was playing before he got injured. I'd still prefer Armstrong in that role but Antonnson is handy as a back up.
-
My first impressions of him was that he was a grafter who would make goals for the team by his work rate but wouldn't be a prolific scorer because he lacked that sharpness around goal. Well I was right about the goalscoring.

I agree Gavlar but if he did want away a bit of good form out on the pitch would have helped his cause. Going off what I've seen he's not good enough for our first team never mind a team playing at a higher level.

I can't see Johnno hanging around for much longer. Football is a very small world and what he's doing at Rovers won't be going un-noticed. -

You play the formation that suits the strengths of your players. If we still had Andre Oojer,Kevin Moran, Stephane Hechoz as centre backs and Kevin Hird and John Bailey as wing backs we could play that way, but we haven't. -
That wasn't Tony Green Den. That was Johnny Green , a hard tackling wing half that played for Blackpool in the early to mid 1960's. Tony Green didn't sign for Blackpool until the Summer of 1967.

First time I went to Rovers as a kid it cost me 1 shilling and 6 pence to get in ( 7.5p ) in today's money. At Utd it was 1 and 3, even cheaper. I was getting 12 shillings and 6 pence for my paper round so work out how many games I could go to in a week. Most times I went to 2 games, sometimes 3 and now and again 4 games in a week. I also bought a programme for most of them. Train fare to Maine Rd, Burnden Park, Old Trafford was peanuts. Bus fare to Ewood, Bury , Oldham, Burnley wasn't much more. Rochdale I could walk to. No faffing about with tickets and away ends. You rocked up, put your money down, and walked in.

Best get back there then before you miss something important.
-
I didn't see it either. Will that do ?

Every team had a gent or two then Jim, now they just have agents.

I played for a team that had that kit. For a cup semi final we played in brand new shirts. During the game it poured down all afternoon. When we came to get changed after the match we all looked like we'd been tangoed !

Very, very good right back. Fast and sharp in the the tackle, neat in possession also. One of the first attacking full backs. Voted into the Best World 11 after the 1962 World Cup.

Was there a score ? -
Yeah, what was the half time subs warm up like ?
-
I agree, Bellamy used to turn bad passes into good passes all the time.
-
I like Moen Ali but he's very lucky not to be dropped.
-
Two guys that played a few games years ago , Rowland Horrey from Bishop Auckland and David Holt from County Durham . Holt packed the game in early in his career to go into business.
-
Ken Taylor, right full back when I first started watching. Born in South Shields at the mouth of the Tyne.
-
Not counting the fact that he was risking a broken hand that could have massively set back his career.
-
Billy Wilson was from Seaton Delavel. I've got a pal who was born there. If you called him a Geordie he'd punch you on the nose. That area is Sunderland through and through according to him.
-
I understand what you're saying but I think some people would argue he used a greater amount of violence than was necessary. Easy for me to say, I wasn't there. I'd have tried to break it up without throwing punches left right and centre.
-
Why couldn't he be out there from the start then ? The ECB is a joke.

It's been really depressing waking up every morning to hear the constant stream of bad news. This could be the worst side we've ever sent to Australia. I've no answers but I suspect Cricket is on the way to becoming a minority sport in this country. The Ashes mania the swept the country in 2005 has been squandered on the altar of financial short termism. I heard Stokes has been selected for the one day team. How does that work ?
