  1. Best team lost in that one for me.
  2. Don't be like that. I'm obviously old school and when I played that wouldn't have been a pen but nowadays you see penalties like that given everyday unfortunately.
  3. I thought the Costa incident was a foul. He jumped into his opponent leading with his elbow.
  4. You could get away with tackles like that in the past, today you can't.
  5. I was talking with a mate about all the World Class forwards we'd seen over the years. One who rarely gets a mention these days is Teofilo Cubillas of Peru. Look up his two goals v Jockland in the 1978 World Cup, stunning strikes.
  6. Maybe the penny hasn't dropped yet that they're taking the p*ss.
  7. Going off memory he got injured very early on and he moped around for a while before going off.. I don't think he contributed anything to Portugal winning that game.
  8. It was a modern day penalty. Very, very slight touch on Greizemann and he made the most of it. I don't think the Auusie actually touched the ball.
  9. I agree about Rooney, he was the finished article at 17.
  10. Nobody was more pleased than me to see us get out that Division but let's not kid ourselves . The standard was very poor, we came second and you could count the games were we played really well for more than half of the game on the fingers of one hand. Those are the facts that matter to me. Play like that again next season and we'll struggle. It's essential we strengthen the team with a few players that will actually improve us.
  11. Amazing isn't it. Just like Pavlov's dogs. I wonder if they'll be back on when we're struggling at the wrong end of the table.
  12. As a young player Rooney was a better bet than Ronaldo. One looked after himself and one didn't.
  13. The Portugese Ronaldo is a top player, no doubt about that. As a human being - I'm not impressed. The last Euro final did it for me. He limped off after about 10 minutes. He handed the captains armband to another player, Pepe ? The rest of the team battled on like Trojans without him and eventually won the cup. Who steps up to receive the trophy ? Yeah you've guessed it- the guy who did nothing in the final to win it. A real captain like Bobby Moore would have said to the guy who took the armband - " You and the rest of the team won the cup, you go up and get it " .
  14. I saw Pele enough on TV to know I was watching a football genius. You can watch the extended highlights of the 1970 World Cup any time you like on the Internet. The guy was on another level. He didn't have a weakness. The Brazilian coaches reckoned he was also the best goalkeeper in the squad. In the days before sub goalies he was down to go in goal if the regular goalie got injured. Maradona was on TV all the time, I must have seen him play dozens of times. I'd say the Brazilian Ronaldo was better than the current Ronaldo before he piled on the pounds.
  15. The team as it stand at the moment has got relegation struggle written all over it.
  16. Trust the Chicken Chokers to blow away the recent feel good factor at the club. They never change, terminally stupid.
  17. The England team of 1970 was a better team than the one that won it in my opinion.
  18. He isn't over rated by those who actually saw him play. It the immortal words of John McEnroe - " You Cannot Be Serious Man ". He was the best, you can argue about who comes second.
  19. Spain are at least two goals better than England at the moment.
  20. You can't have seem much of Platini to say that. He was every bit as good as Zidane in his day. Regarding the best - Pele is head and shoulders above all the rest. Maradona is probably next in line.
  21. Summerbee had that killer instinct as a player. If you gave him a kick you had big problems. He was a really hard case for a winger.
  22. How did the " guy from Scotland " go on at Sheffield Utd ? Have we missed out or have we dodged a bullet ?
  23. The only time I've seen him play in the flesh was in the egg cup game at Rochdale. To be honest he looked to be one of our better players that night but that's not saying a great deal. Nobody really looked the part, especially after we went down to 10 men. I thought he had a good touch for a big guy and a good change of pace that enabled him to get past people. He was two footed and could go either way. He played out wide at first but when we went down to 10 he came more inside. I'd say his best position is similar to the role Dack plays.
