  1. What gets me is what Yorke has done wrong to warrant such abuse anyway ! OK, he wasn't an unqualified success as a Rover but I don't believe for a minute that was all his fault. His goalscoring ratio was equal to Andy Cole's which isn't bad considering he was the deepest lieing of the two strikers with Cole as the man with the job to find the back of the net. It's the easiest most ignornant comment to make about a player that he is lazy, basically this is always labelled at centre forwards which should tell the braindeads something about football. As for the pr1cks abusing him whilst he was warming up, I hope to God they are banned for life and good on Yorke for jumping over the advertising boards to confront the idiot. Why shouldn't he warm up where he wants ? It's the first time I've ever considered writing to an opposition player to apologise for the actions of my fellow fans. Yorke has grown in my estimation no end today, the d1ckheads in the BB end should hang their heads in shame, the ignorant prats.
  2. Arguably the worst post ever to hit this messageboard. Ignoring the pathetic Cantona comment, he won Player of the Year a couple of years later !
  3. Very good, and I'm in complete agreement, but the numbskulls don't want to listen. In their eyes, because he was captain of the 1995 Championship side makes him a "great" player. Which is utter tosh of course. I've been watching Rovers on and off since the year dot and the only member of that 1995 side who should be guaranteed a place in the "greats" team is Shearer. Even then I would put a strong case for Fred Pickering. Numbskulls is a little uncalled for Jim. How many of these 'greats' you have self labelled have won the ultimate English prize of the top league ? Whilst playing in a championship winning side doesn't automatically mean you are a 'great', it certainly goes a hell of a long way towards a permanant place in the record books. These postings are getting a little hysterical, but they don't surprise me. You won't get Utd fans slagging off Steve Bruce or Roy Keane, Arsenal fans bemoaning the attributes of Viera. We probably have the only group of fans who can win the bloody Premiership and spend the next ten years slagging off the captain for being an arrogant cockney ! (He wasn't very good at lifting that trophy was he ? Should have held over his head not to the side)... Vote Forrest !
  4. A lot more men have done that than win 5 FA Cup medals. I'm sorry but FA Cup medals won in the days players wore sleeping caps on team photos means very little to me. Goalkeepers conceding goals with their backs turned to the play whilst they light a cigar, etc etc Yes it's part of our history but the quality of football in those days was Sunday League Darwen beat Aston Villa 5-1 in the 5th round one year ! Where's my Golden helmet !?
  5. Who would you say would go down in history as "great" though? Vaughan or W.G? This is the crux of the discussion. I think we all agree Sherwood is the better footballer but who is the 'Great' we seek. ? I stand by my decision to vote Sherwood because I think captaining that team and running the engine of a modern day Premiership winning side is a feat that needs recognition. I also thought his after match interviews were cool
  6. It's like WG Grace facing Steve Harmison. He'd get his cap knocked off, but who would you vote for as the better batsman ? WG Grace or Michael Vaughan ?
  7. What are we going to do with DePedro ? He's behind Reid Thompson MGP and any potential new signings. I don't think we'll ever see him start another Premiership game
  8. Thought Emerton was excellent tonight and may well be attracting potential buyers come January. Neill looked quality all night and was dangerous going forward. MGP did enough for me to suggest he's worth having and may yet make an impression at Rovers. (Hodgson rates him as well !)
  9. It's a shame Duff won't get in because of Dave Wagstaffe or Mike Harrison. Both were better than him. Waggy Waggy Waggy Waggy Wagstaffe on the wing ? You've named a player that I've witnessed now Jim ! Not in Duff's class though. Duff's the best left winger in the world (Bold statement )
  10. Can't wait to see how many votes Wilcox gets for best left winger ! It's a shame Sellars won't get in because of the Irish Wizard. Vote Sherwood !
  11. Emerton is looking a real gem. The 2 and a bit million we paid for him is looking like peanuts,
  12. Youre suffering from memory loss mate. Batty only played a double handful of games at the end of the season of which we lost most of. He didn't even collect a medal because he said he hadn't earned it.
  13. Can we play one in either half ?
  14. The team faded when he was virtually an ever present and we won the Prem ? or was it the season he won Fan's Player of the Year ?
  15. Simple. Buy a ticket and go watch. Stop it Phillip, you'll confuse the lad !
  16. It's bad enough with Le Saux in the team; Sherwood as well would be too much to take. I'm considering digging up some of the relatives: does a posthumous vote count ? I would ask all those considering voting for Sherwood to read the posts extolling the virtues of candidates such as Forrest and Latheron, players who are part of the fabric and history of Blackburn Rovers Football Club. I'd say captaining the club to it's greatest modern day success is pretty much part of the club's fabric and history. Vote for Skippy !
  17. One man remains through thick and thin "Beamo ! Beamo !" Next caretaker manager ?
  18. Here Here. Too much anti-Sherwood sentiment on this board for my liking. The bloke played out of his skin and captained the side to it's greatest modern era achievment. And all he gets is "Just make sure Sherwood doesn't get in " etc etc. It's a disgrace. Does anyone here hand on heart think Jimmy Forrest was a better footballer than Tim Sherwood ? I think not.
  19. Strange choice of 'crap' players. Norman Bell was an excellent buy from Wolves and was arguably our brst player at the time. Lowey was a reasonable if limited midfielder after he was converted from hapless striker. Stonehouse was something of a wonderkid when he broke into the side and was generally a decent player. For crapness look no further than the famous Pauls - Shepstone amd McKinnon ! I agree with your idea about a crap eleven. Where would we start ? Butcher Collier Fettis Dickens or O'Keefe ?
  20. Yes Jan, I do recall you being particularly scathing and especially vitriolic about the abilities of Brett Emerton. Should never play for Blackburn Rovers again or something ? I could look up the quotes but can't really be bothered.
  21. Come on Den, forget that, there's only about 5 in with a shout anyway, let's get voting !
  22. Personally I think Scott Sellars should be in the short-list, but you're never going to get 100% agreement without making the 'short' list about 30 long. My earliest Ewood memories feature Scott quite prominently You'll get your chance to vote for Scott when we select the greatest left winger.
  23. Not going for the sympathy vote here but turned yp an interesting snippet about our former skipper whilst Googling for Tim Sherwood stories. Tottenham's Tim Sherwood is to donate his win bonuses for the season to the disaster fund set up for the families of those killed by the terrorist attacks in America. Sherwood's bonus payments could reach £100,000 and he hopes his actions will prompt other players into similar moves. "Along with everyone else in the country, I was saddened and horrified by the events of last week in America," said Sherwood. There has been a lot of talk about what we may do as a team towards the disaster fund "I wanted to do something to help and this is the best way I can think of. "Hopefully it will spark other players into doing something for the people who are suffering in America and for the families of those British people who have also lost loved ones in the attacks."
  24. Clayton and Sherwood for me. Close calls for Barker, Speight ,Metcalfe And Batty.
  25. Patrick Anderson played centre half for us. Not with Hendry and Moran playing in the same side he didn't. Maybe this is why the move didn't work out ? He obviously went on to be a great success as a centre back elsewhere, but of the 9 or so games he started for Rovers, only two of those were the back. All the others were as a midfielder. AKH has called this one right. He played every game in midfield for us and was particularly useless. Went on to be an excellent centre back for Bayern, I think.
