  1. Not really - most on this board agree that Todd, Zura, Friedel and Neill are quality players (and Gray can be on his day), so it's a matter of defensive mistakes and poor communication that have led to the goals conceded this year. Bellamy on the other hand is upfront on his own with little support from the midfield - Reid and Savage couldn't hit a defence splitting pass if their lives depended on it, they also don't score any goals (3 between them is it?). Ped has weighed in with a few pearlers, but otherwise he's been non-existant. I also think few would argue Dickov and Kuqi are utter sh!te in terms of quality - their workrate is good, but that doesn't really help Bellamy besides allowing him to rest a little whilst they defend from the front. Not that I'm arguing Nelsen isn't a quality player, because he quite clearly is. However, our best player this season has clearly been Bellamy. I just don't see how you can argue that fact.
  2. I'd have chosen Nelsen, but our defence has been pretty @#/? this season.
  3. Which translates as: Pompey away: poor team performance saved by two pieces of sheer quality by Bellamy Liverpool home: very fortunate goal for Liverpool, followed by 60 minutes of the scousers not breaking a sweat in defence. Birmingham away: haven't seen the game, but it sounded like they took their chances whilst we struggled to create many.
  4. Just heard about this incident in full. Surely his last game in a Rovers shirt. He's a pretty good Premiership defender, but this isn't a one off incident now is it?
  5. We weren't getting luck at the start of the season, but the last five games or so have been very fortunate. I think part of it is that the team is tired and the lack of quality in the squad is showing up, and the other part is we've been found out. Stop Bellamy and you stop Rovers. Hopefully Hughes will rectify that next season with a right winger and a striker of quality.
  6. It's not even close, Bellamy has been the best player of this season.
  7. Like I said, we've been @#/? and extremely lucky for the past five games or so. It was eventually going to come back and bite us, especially as we've not picked up our form again. 6th place is going to be a struggle, we're so out of sorts it's laughable. On a more positive note, hand Peter the #11 shirt already, a much better player than Pedersen.
  8. Sounds like he's injured rather than had a strop. Maybe he's just frustrated. As if Savage has scored
  9. A point was always going to be good considering our form. We're going to struggle now though.
  10. We've been pants since the Spuds game, unfortunately. 4th place was well within our grasp, but we're firing on 1 cylinder
  11. Sergio Peter has done more in five minutes than Gamst has in three matches.
  12. Watch the slow motion replay, he clearly stops his foot and pulls it away from the ball, despite it being easily within reach. This was followed by a quick 'didn't touch it ref' hand jesture. He probably got a shout from Morientes
  13. Exactly, I can think of two sending offs, a handball, and a throw in that all went against us.
  14. If Spuds are still willing to pay £6-7m I'd snap their hands off.
  15. Hmmm, that site seems unlinkable. Funny stuff though.
  16. I was begging for a double change at half time - Kuqi and Peter on for Dickov and Pedersen. Of course I knew it'd never happen as Hughes likes to give his players a chance to redeem themselves, but that's a different story. I wholeheartedly agree with Shillito, Pedersen has actually been @#/? for most of the season. Obviously the nine goals from midfield have helped, but what exactly does he do for the team other than that? He contributes absolutely nothing going forward these days - the amount of times he hits his cross/pass into a defender is beyond a joke, and his complete lack of pace really doesn't help his cause. His redeeming feature, apparently, is his set piece play - it's just a shame he shoots at every chance he gets, including corners, and wastes a good majority of them. I'm sure he'd be great in a side that could afford to carry him, but unfortunately we aren't capable of that. All 11 men need to contribute, which hasn't happened enough for my liking this season. With a pairing of Savage and Reid, our attacking play is pretty much reliant on the wide men and any strokes of genius Bellamy can provide. I think most people in the ground realised yesterday that if Liverpool wanted to they could shut up shop with little problem - which is why their gift is so hard to take. If we are to progress as a side then we need to find a place for Bentley (as he is one of the few players in our squad capable of playing a defence splitting pass), or bring in two wingers who can actually beat their man.
  17. It's a damn sight better than our Japanese, love Hope you enjoy your stay
  18. Have I missed something, when did we play Liverpool? That was Bolton, wasn't it? Long balls, deep defending, negative play, cynical fouls - that's the MO of the Wanderers.
  19. Well that's six points the MIB have gifted to Liverpool this season - where's this evening out then?
  20. That's what I thought too, he looked quite threatening when he had the ball at his feet. It's just a shame he was forced to produce the perfect ball or watch it gobbled up by a resolute Liverpool defence. Twelve against nine is right, however, though Dickov and Pedersen would be the two I'd single out as being a waste of space.
