So having been 2nd in February, top 6 until the last few games, and having got off to a flying start to this season you'd take a midtable finish now?

There's the Venky effect in plain sight.

Something very solid there to build on for a new manager with new ideas and some backing. Hasn't materialised.

Half the players you name as 'additions' to replace the outgoings were already here last season. Vale, Markanday, Carter etc.

They aren't additions, and we don't know yet if they are good enough. They are getting a look in not necessarily because they are better than those who have left, but by virtue of the fact they are cheap and still under contract and it is more cost effective than signing alternatives.

Maybe it was the ownership and management to blame for the shambolic state of recruitment and contracts that now requires this rebuild, and not Mowbray? If so what makes you think anything has changed?

Think another 3/4 decent signings will be ok, Sharp from the LT got it right, signing 6/7 new signings plus Dack, Markanday who couldn’t play last season plus Vale and the academy lads Philips, A Wharton. Garret can step up.

For some bizarre reason you do not recognise FFP and never have done, thankful the new management know we have to develop the kids and either use them or sell for decent money.

Most people know next season it’s 90% wages to turnover and 2 years after 70%, we have to comply, your strategy is sh#t or bust. Bit like Mel Morris at Derby, went drastically wrong, you would splash out, give ridiculous wage increases to existing staff and hope for the best, I’m all for getting promotion but not at all costs, need to get the right players in who are good enough to step in the side and hopefully in the next few days they will do.

  2. Folk need to slow down, before a ball was kicked most thought first 7 games before deadline was a little tricky, and we need to get everyone in well before the deadline or we might be adrift, well 5 games in 9 points, not too shabby and Stoke and Blackpool to come, should be a few more points there as well regardless of any new bodies coming in early.Pretty confident we will get 3/4 in either this week or next and hopefully a bit of quality.

Remember quite a few saying why can’t we be like ‘Boro getting signings in early, well after 5 games zero wins, goodness knows if we hadn’t won so far, this forum would be in meltdown.

Still confident in the new set up, but I don’t expect miracles, takes time, but we do need some quality signings…

Just wondering if Ewood area is affected by the major water burst going on in Oakdale estate behind the Fernhurst. No water or poor pressure since 10am on Saturday in Livesey, Feniscowles, Tockholes etc. Some pubs shut yesterday. Still not sorted. Will Ewood Park be able to open if water supply is affected?

Just thinking that myself, still a lot of places no water this morning including Ewood area.

Bit of a smart Alec reply from you but theoretically the way to get him to sign is quite obvious isn't it. Offer him a bit less than Spurs are offering on the basis that the prospects of regular first team football will probably be a lot higher than there. And allow him a release clause so that if any PL Club wants him badly enough he can have his dream move and we get a decent fee. Everyone (fairly) happy.

IF we've done all that, then fair enough. I'd rather wag

What’s smart Alec about it. Folk always blaming someone at the club when they haven’t a clue what’s been offered, must be a nightmare negotiating with the slimy greedy agents, that’s the problem, not Rovers management, in THIS case.

    Which is precisely my point.

Plenty of folk are keen to take Waggott's word for it, not just in this instance but in most other areas of concern.

    "We've done a,b,c"

    "We've offered x,y,z"

"We've got big bids on the table for new players"

    "We've done all we can"

    "It's not our fault"

Time after time stuff he comes out with then doesn't happen. I just don't get why people are so keen to believe the party line when he's got such a track record for bullshit or saying things that don't happen.

Player after player depart for nothing, costing the club millions in lost player value, yet rather than question what the hell people like Waggott are up to instead it's easier to look away from the club - FFP rules, crowds, income - all the usual easy excuses. Responsibility starts at home.

And lets be honest we are only talking about Ash Phillips now because of the lack of CBs we have following another exodus this summer. If we'd have recruited properly up to this point we wouldn't even be considering putting him in the squad.

And how would you make him sign a professional contract, it’s very difficult how the system works, obviously with all the hype as to his talent, the big boys start sniffing and the agent wants him to sign for a big club and get his nice cut.

For all the faults Waggot has you can’t keep blaming him for everything especially in this circumstance.

Just tell me how you would get him to sign instead of Spurs, Man U etc.

What you need to do is have a meeting with Waggot and tell him how to get his signature over the line…

I can understand to an extent. But some take it too far.Like criticising the club because apparently Hourihane turned down a contract offer here because Derby are more ambitious with that story coming from Mercer nowhere else.Or comments like "Broughton doesn't have any contacts over here" like anyone on here knows what contacts Broughton does or doesn't have.

Iv always said there are plenty of legitimate reasons to criticize the club and if the window passes and it's kids on loan with hardly anything spent again then the club will deserve to be criticized and I will be joining in.

But for NOW I will take JDT'S word for it that we have money and the club are focused on bringing in quality

Oh and on Mowbray you didn't recognize a change in his demeanor after the Rothwell situation? He quite clearly had the hump and was Mr miserable from that day forward

Correct👍 One great point from the management is they keep things under wraps, hardly any leaks, which somehow upsets a few fans, don’t know why.

Britain came out the blue and then the lad said in his interview it had been going on a couple of weeks, as others could be at this very time, so I’ll sit back and wait patiently and hope they can announce 2/3 in the next week or two.

It is just accounting of how the money comes in and doesn't really effect things too much.

Cash or Shares are really the same thing in this regard.

You’re right, my main concern is getting from 140% to 70% in a few years, very difficult.

Still think some players we are linked with want far and away  more than £15k a week, I know we can sign players between 5k and 15k but getting quality players in on that is difficult.

    A load of tosh !

    1. Fess up , yes he needs to come out and tell us where we are with new players to replace the ones he let go as DOF.

    2. U23s from last season shouldn't be integral part of a promotion chasing champion side/squad, irrespective of my views on JB and TD

    3. Carter is a Donkey and will struggle in a 3 which is JDT preferred formation.  Carter not quick enough or technical enough.

Not looking as much as you seem to be....with your personal attacks.

I'm a premier member so watch it laddie

Carter is a donkey, oh dear!!!

UEFA's new financial sustainability regulations to replace FFP: All you need to know | Football News | Sky Sports

Good article here on the rule changes. As you say, we will only be able to spend 70% of revenue on wages in 3 years time (it's being phased in over 3 years to help clubs adapt) so we need to either slash our wage bill by then or dramatically increase revenue.

You’re right, but some on here don’t want to know, like FFP doesn’t exist, it does and even though everyone wants new faces in, including me we just can’t pay wages we can’t afford with our revenue, we have to be smart, get players in but without paying massive wages.

Also we need quality players not just squad men, takes time when we are in our position and even though they are saying it’s a healthy budget we won’t be busting our wage structure, fingers crossed DOF can work some magic.

Why does it always come back to calling people negative? It isn't helpful nor a hindrance to the team what people put on this messageboard.

Because he would agree he’s negative, just how some are, I’m the other way, my point is we just can’t go in for players and pay them what they want, it looks like we were serious for Davies just couldn’t match wages when you’re talking around £26/30 grand a week.

We just have to bide our time and hopefully come up trumps with a couple of decent players we can afford, like Britain.

Like I’ve said FFP isn’t going away in fact it’s getting tighter and shortly we won’t be able to spend more than 70% of turnover on wages, at the moment we are way over 100%.

But there’s some on here who don’t want to know, think we won’t get punished, Derby went for it bent the rules and look what happened.

For the first time in a while we’re got a DOF/ coach who seem to be tuned in.
I will wait until the end of the transfer window before making my mind up if it’s a decent window.

End of the day it’s a balancing act, try to attract decent players but without paying silly wages, unfortunately it’s not 1994 in the glory years it’s 2022, times have changed.

I wish I could share the optimism but I really can't.

I don't think anyone can seriously put a case forward that we are anything but weaker than we were last season. It's all well and good saying that the window isn't closed yet and that other clubs are also struggling to bring players in but I don't think many will have a lack of depth and experience to the extent we do, nor will many others have lost so many from last season.

We are basically hoping that Tomasson turns out to be a good manager, at least better than Mowbray, and that the younger players can step up / we don't get many injuries.

A dangerous and reckless way to approach a Championship season IMO but seems the majority are happy to gamble with it.

Don’t think the majority are happy to gamble, but  realistic to acknowledge it’s difficult getting players over the line, unless you’ve money to burn,  most realise we might have to wait a bit nearer to the end of transfer window and see where we are then.

Pointless to keep being negative when we don’t know what’s going on in the background..
