Reading this topic is eye opening really. It really shows how aimless this club is. We the fans haven’t got a clue what’s going on. We can’t even make educated guesses. Some of us believe our top targets have to be interested because we are a club on the up. Some believe the owners will look for the cheapest option regardless. Others believe a left field appointment.
My opinion is simple. We have some talented young players and a youth system that produces. We should look for a manager with a history of working under such circumstances. Add a little experience where needed.
Will we get such an appointment? Who knows. We don’t even know who is doing the interviews etc. As ever no communication. Ignore the odds on who will be the next manager. The bookies haven’t a clue. No one does

Pretty well agree with most of that, no one has a clue outside of the club, but saying we don’t know who’s doing the interviews, why should we know, there shouldn’t be communication re names until it’s done and dusted.

Yes I have been expecting Lenihan to sign a new contract here but Rothwell and Nyambe will leave.

Isn't Andrew Proctor the Rovers physio who told you this?

No modern keepers don't come for the ball and that include some of the best keepers out there.

No not Andrew, don’t really want to mention names, but believe Dolan had slight injury in training, we seem to have more injuries than the normal. Hopefully fit for Blackpool along with Lenihan but probably without Nyambe.

Exactly, Nyambe should have defending the cross much better. He got out muscled by their striker

How many managers really come out and take the blame really?

He is 4 or 5 yards out, Keeper not going to save that unless its hit his hand or body. The problem was Nyambe's poor defending and if he is badly injured he can't defend then go off the pitch

Who says Mowbray will be here next season? Plus who says we will play 5 at the back next season?

Also we have James Brown who seems to be doing well in the under 23 and hopefully we see him a first team Rovers shirt soon

I think Pickering has been a good signing for us overall. He hasn't been at his best since coming back from injury but I am overall pleased with this signing

Rothwell and Nyambe obviously definitely going, Lenihan expected to sign new contract, also according to a Rovers physio Dolan carrying a slight injury from training hence no minutes on pitch.

Hedges has come at a good time. He will get a game if Ayala is being lumped up top. When you read the list of attackers we have out it’s frightening. All of these are due back shortly so Hedges has real motivation to hit the ground running.

Even if he contributes to a few wins in his early weeks then fades I wouldn’t care. We need to keep winning and new signings can help with that. On to a midfielder now - we need some creativity over and above Bucko. Now Liverpool have signed Diaz is Elliott really unrealistic? Get him back for for half a season and he was playing centre mid for Liverpool before his injury!!

Elliot played a behind closed doors yesterday, scored and an assist, think he’ll be back in Liverpools squad shortly, BUT you never know 😜

Don't agree. He might or might not be a good signing. I simply don't know. He might be highly rated but playing in the u23s league is a different game to playing in the Championship or hopefully soon Premier League. My concern would be whether he is a signing going to come in and hit the ground running - which really is what we need right now.

If we are a club going places and pushing for the PL then signing a soon to be out of contract player from Spurs U23s is not a 'coup'. It might be a good signing, I hope it is, but we are Blackburn Rovers, pushing for the PL here.

We can spend millions - if the owners really want to. That would not 'risk the club' - we are £200 million down over the last decade and counting - the only way to stop that is to get over the line to promotion. Truth is I haven't seen anyone demanding huge money be lavished on expensive players - just recognition from most that we are in an unusually strong position to kick on and attract better players than in our usual mid table nothingness.

Middlesbrough, West Brom, Forest have all added experience and quality to their squads and more will follow. This is a really competitive division and we need to compete.

I come back to what I said last night and have said many times before. I am of the firm belief that the only way any substantial funds are released from the owners - be that transfer fees or wage increases - is when it gets the OK in India at the top table. That hasn't happened for a long time.

    And do a Derby, sh#% or bust, I don’t think so….

  6. Thought the Dutch full back would have been over the line now, can’t see the problem re isolation, could still sign, think it might be more getting a work permit, much more difficult after brexit.

They said last season they would have struggled to sign Kaminski these days, it’s now a points system and unless your a full international it’s difficult.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't recall a single occasion that the manager has flown around the world to meet with Balaji.

I've no doubt he has a more 'hands on' role than the others in terms of interest in the club but when it comes to cold hard cash and funding it is clear that managers have always needed to get through to Mr and Mrs Desai.

Snake Kean worked out quickly where the power lies.

No visit to India since 2019 puts Mowbray on thin ice and no coincidence that since then buys have been low cost (if anything) and sales have started.

All my opinion and belief based on what we've seen over the last 10 years. Some might call it a conspiracy theory but I think it makes perfect sense and until Mowbray can get around a table with them cash will be very limited, as will new contracts.

Think the pandemic might have had something to to with not travelling to India.

FFP doesn’t impact infrastructure improvements. And something will need to be done with it medium term, though I imagine they’ll just shut it on ‘safety grounds’ like Barnsley have just done with one of their stands.

FYI - It’s not the fanbase asking for a new Riverside, we are all aware of how empty Ewood is, but some big idea out of the mouth of Swag, that then gets quietly dropped… like the Tony Parkes tribute and many others.

Your quite right infrastructure doesn’t affect FFP directly but it’s money coming out the pot, which hopefully can go to new players and better contracts, if indeed they are going for a push in second half of season, unfortunately it doesn’t appear we can do both.

But for JRH to keep saying we haven’t improved contracts is really ludicrous just because other things Waggot has said haven’t come to fruition..

  9. 28 minutes ago, JHRover said:

Thanks for confirming that it is all based on what Waggott and Mowbray have said.

    That's my whole point.

After the shite Waggott has come out with I'm astonished as to the number of people so happy just to believe him.

Maybe the new contracts will come after the new pitch, new Riverside and ticket reductions to compensate fans?

Think he said a complete new pitch if we could afford it, obviously they went for the cheaper option, but you have to admit it the pitch has never looked better in December for a long time.

Riverside, do you really expect it with the attendances we get at the moment, that’s certainly not sticking up for Waggot just common sense with us round FFP constantly.

Back to the contracts, can’t believe you still think they haven’t been offered improved contracts, think everyone knows they have, it’s obviously down to if we are being tight or agents being greedy… probably a bit of both..

  10. 42 minutes ago, JHRover said:

I can't think of anything lower down my list of priorities than spending my free time with the likes of him tbh.

I also wouldn't believe a word he came out with so would be a waste of my time.

Think most fans know all 3 players have been offered improved terms, how you know they haven’t is very strange, the main point is how much have they offered, is it agents/ players being greedy or Rovers being tight.

Pointless really arguing if nobody knows the facts, but looks like we will have to wait till January and see how it pans out…

Oh. So why did the club say they were in discussions with him about a new deal?

I don't know or care whether it was Maja or Messi. Matters not one jot if he doesn't join.

Yeah it does matter a jot, they said they were lining up a striker from abroad which subsequently turned out to be Maja, he failed a medical, end of, it happens, not Rovers fault.

So Hughton, McCarthy and Warnock have all been sacked this season by their club after poor starts to the season.

I wouldn't want any of those 3 at Rovers to replace Mowbray.

Yeah amazing how many were crying out for Rovers to take one of these instead of Mowbray and you can throw Pearson in as well, strange game.

  13. You’ve got to take the positives out of the last 3 games, if someone said would you take 5 points most would say yes, beat Derby and a point off Fulham and Sheffield.

Or would you take 6 points out of the 3 games, yes no brainier, credit to TM picking that side, don’t think many including me would have picked that side, played well and really enjoyed the game, let’s give a bit of credit to the management for a change, COYB.

If its anything to do with FFP then why are they persisting with the claim we can't get Nyambe and Rothwell on new contracts?

All a bit pointless if we can't even extend players contracts isnt it?

For context this £16 million move is probably not far off what we could command for those out of contract were they on long term deals rather than leaving for nothing.

They can’t get Nyambe and Rothwell to sign simply because they don’t want to pay what the agents want.

Now unless you know what’s on the table, I certainly don’t, how can you possibly say if the agents are being greedy or Rovers not paying the going rate.

And regarding the news about the STC being sold, you’ve banged on for years saying why don’t we do what Derby and others have done to get more dosh in, as soon as we do it there’s a conspiracy theory going on.

Lets think with what the news said, that due to slight alterations on FFP  rules it just might be to get some cash injection into the club and who knows keep some of these players that are going out of contract.
