  1. I think whats happened is that Hughes decided that he wants a coach who can develop young players controlling the reserves. The thought of re-structuring has come about through Kelly's departure to Leicester. The board meeting took place on Tuesday when Hughes revealed his plans. The board have since been looknig for an alternative position for Parkes at academy level but nothing is available. News broke unexpectedly overnight in the press as Williams was due to tell Parkes this morning.
  2. Just in on Sky!! Hughes wants the link between the academy and first team to be better than it is. We have an excellent academy and it is not being utilised. The board were trying to find a position for Parkes at the academy but nothing is available.
  3. John Williams was meant to tell Parkes this morning. Mark Hughes said today he is sad at the way the situation has been handled.
  4. Parkes learnt of his departure from reading The Sun this morning. Nice way to go...
  5. Reporter on Sky Sports News just said. Board meeting on Tuesday when Hughes made his proposals to the board -over night the news leaked to the press. However the news is not official yet. What an insult.
  6. Absolute disgrace!!! Parkes has not even been told yet- media all talking about it and the man himself doesnt even know. Not even told face to face, what a shambles and a brutal end. Reason for Parkes leaving is that Hughes regards Parkes as a first team coach and there are no positions at the club for him.
  7. Cannot forget the times when he stepped in the breach and saved this club. Thank you Tony you will not be forgotten and you are a true blue and white. Time to move on though Glyn Hodges (former Wales Under 21 Coach) takes his place.
  8. Dont know if anyone mentioned Malcolm Macdonalds comments in The Sun today on the tactical mystery of what went on in Newcastle's game v Fulham, he was amazed. Like for us he was correct when he said you can only revert to three at the back when you have quick, athletic centre backs!!! Also what a joke on Your on Sky Sports last night- Peter Beagrie was talking about defensive troubles at Newcastle- then mentioned that Blackburn had major defensive problems as well under Souness for a while but Souness and his coach Saunders managed to sort it out! When was this exactly....
  9. Marcus Babbel expains in this story he nearly became an alcoholic after his loan move to us. Also tells us what our players got upto on our 'training trips' to Gleneagles and Spain. http://www.sundaymirror.co.uk/sport/tm_obj...-name_page.html
  10. Those were the days...... http://www.sportinglife.com/football/news/...l&TEAMHD=soccer
  11. I always look back and think 'where did it go wrong'. With the supposed crown jewels when we got promoted. Jansen, Duff and Dunn. However I then think of Leeds plight and it makes things a bit easier. Now we have a manager who I believe will put more emphasis on tactics, training (physical/mental) and spending money wisely. All these things bode well for the club in my view. First things first though, we need to start picking up points.
  12. Even at this early stage of the season this is a huge game. Norwich will be well up for trying to secure their first league win. Lots of hype surrounding the fact they have not won a league game yet. Whats the bet Huckerby proves he can play in the Premiership this game.... There could be a wee gap appearing if we lose and it will just heap more pressure on our squad. Liverpool game provided many positives but we still did not pick up 3 points and we have a really dire total at the moment. We have to win the battle in this match as it will be a real scrap. Dickov will play and hopefully the 2 Jays. Centre of midfield still concerns me, Tugay was silly in the last game with picking up bookings again and he really cannot be expected to defend properly. All he can do is run around a bit headless and attempts to put off opponents. Anyway I am rambling on..... Norwich 0 Blackburn 2 (Reid and Dickov)
  13. All I have said is fact. I think the board were correct not to give funds to Souness. He had his fair share of money to spend. However he was told he would be given cash to stop the rot as it were. We knew he was a cheque-book manager when he took over so we cannot be surprised that he would struggle unless backed with money. For me this summer was wasted and due to the board not being able to make their mind up about where as a club we were going and now we are paying the price. John Williams said it himself recently that fans want to be entertained, well we have an old squad at the moment who are in for a bitter, long winter. Most of the blame has to be attributed to Souness but the board are far from blameless. Hughes for me is the one bright spark we have going for us. He is a clever man who will put more emphasis on training and preparation. These aspects will help us improve as a team when it is glaringly obvious we lack quality all over the pitch.
  14. It really is as simple as this...... Souness was told he would be given funds this summer to bring in new players. Souness felt there was lack of quality in the squad, even though he brought most of it in. The board reviewed the situation and declined to release anymore funds for transfers. The relationship between JW and GS deteriorated, not where they fell out but Souness felt he was not really changing much of the squad due to constraints. Viduka or Hasselbaink were on the wanted list to replace Cole but he was not allowed to bring either in. Also Souness felt that some of the players were getting tired listening to the same old voice and just maybe he had outstayed his welcolme. So in my opinion, he has left us in the sh*t but he was told he would be given (yet) more money to change the squad this summer. Thats why folks Hughes will have around £5 million to spend, not because we are providing our new manger with funds but its the left over of the summer budget.
  15. A lot of the Liverpool attacks were coming down our right. I would not say Neill had a good game. He seems to be struggling with his positioning. He was caught out many times by being too close to the centre back, this gave Riise too much space. However the defence were obviously working on keeping their line and Neill seemed pre-occupied with this. To such an extent that Hughes had to give tutoring throughout the match to the defence. Jay as well was not keeping in a line with the centre backs. This will improve though, would like Nissa to be given a run in the team. He looked a bit unsure at times but always thought he plays well at centre back when given a chance.
  16. The performance made me happy today. Things that stood out- our quality of passing was much better than I can remember in recent times. Still can improve but there were some signs that we can be an attacking threat. Reid is in because of his athletic/physical ability. He will get better with every game. Drifts in quite a bit- maybe could perform a central role. Thought he was excellent today. Jay did well apart from the cock-up that led to the goal. Hopefully he gets a few games to make the spot his own. Ferguson is crucial to our team at the moment- makes us tick and his work-rate is under-rated. Bothroyd did well and showed some class. Of course some of us will go over the top but what today shows that things are improving. However our defence is still a problem and Neil's form is worrying.
  17. Flitcroft seemed to have a problem with giving the ball away yesterday. He really has gone off the boil. Wonder if Hughes knows that Reid played on the left for Millwall....
  18. Hughes always felt Savage grabbed the Welsh team by the scruff of the neck. Brings a lot with him but would be an excellent signing. Everton want him so it could prove to be tough.
  19. I just would not mind a bit of respect from our former manager. I was a big fan when he was here but he lost the heart to battle when the board refused to santion him more cash when he wanted Viduka and Hasselbaink. On joining Newcastle he told the press conference he did not want a question about his previous club (us). He said he has moved on. And this morning we all awake rumours he is going to raid us for certain players, I am sorry but this is ridiculous. Hughes has been left in the sh*t. But knowing what our club is about I just know they will support him in January. They better because if they do not we are down and its over.
  20. Thats all Hughes can do at the moment- work on it in training. He cannot buy, he has to work with the rubbish he has got.
  21. Calm down lads. One win and you can jump up 6 places. As Hughes said yesterday after the Liverpool match we need to pick up points
  22. Perfect quote on the radio The players are trying hard but its down to a lack of quality. Lets stop the cr*p about no spirit, we are putting the effort in. Remember last season we were generally awful as well
  23. I do not understand guys- were you expecting to win. We are playing a much more powerful Chelsea team this season. We can look into it all we want but a lot of the problems were here before Hughes- like defence, lack of real quality striker. Give him a break, he is an intelligent guy and things will improve in time.
  24. Just bought a bottle of vodka... should make things seem better.
  25. De Pedro will not get a game for us. His game is not suited at all to the Prem and is a player who has been over-rated his whole career. Would give MGP a chance though- or Reid on the left. I would like to know why Emerton has been moved escpecially where when he was playing so well at right midfield. Lack of attacking threat due to having one up front and no one in the box when we have the ball in forward areas.
