  1. https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/rovers/news/17832521.mowbray-missing-rovers-transfer-target-fulham/ It's always possible Mowbray is simply setting out the reality of the situation. Not everyone in life finds it necessary to send out coded messages and spin. In another thread I commented on my view that PL clubs should take responsibility for developing the players they believe in. PL clubs should not expect lower league clubs to do it for them. For me this interview confirms the poor attitude of PL clubs and the manager is explaining the issues clubs face. The loan system is being abused by the PL clubs at the expense of the EFL clubs. This article is far from making excuses about our likely finish.
  2. Spot on. I'm 100% in agreement with this point of view. Other than BRFCS I hear no serious criticism of the club or Mowbray. I don't do Twitter or FB can groups. I'm sure Venkys see the potential for future recruitment. Sunderland, Ipswich, Coventry, MK Dons (Wimbledon), Bolton, Portsmouth. All been big names in my lifetime and now make up 25% of League 1.
  3. I didn't hear anyone criticise the manager. Seems to me there are plenty on here who should put their money where their mouth is. Apply for the vacancy if it arises. It's very easy to shout from the sidelines with very little knowledge of the real pressures, issues and daily workings within the club.
  4. I'm not sure how you judge this Stuart. My annual income is below the tax threshold. Anyone who works probably has a greater income than I do. An ST in the JWL works out at around £15/match. As I'm now 65 it's £9. I believe the club has a monthly payment option. I'm not judging anyone but if, say, two games a month at £30 is stretching the budget then football should not be part of the equation. If you expect Rovers to offer STs at much below £15/game I'd suggest you're in cloud cuckoo land, along with everyone else on here who can run the club and manage the team better. Frankly so many think they can do a better job I find it hard to understand why BRFCS posters haven't launched a takeover bid.
  5. I expected to read some unhappy and angry posts. After one game and 45 minutes after the whistle this is another new low for BRFCS.
  6. It's true this is a personal view on direct marketing. I would hazard a guess it's very common. We rarely answer the land line these days. I know many people who are the same.
  7. I don't understand the argument we need cheap tickets. My seat is £9 this year (65 now) and my lad's £15 as we have STs. This is not expensive. Just how low should we go? I'm not sure on this but if match day prices dropped to say £20-25 then it would not be unreasonable for ST holders to expect a pro rata reduction. Cheap tickets are all well and good but it's a spiral in to financial decline. It's always easy to reduce price but very difficult to increase - look at the complaints over last year's 20% increases.
  8. Apologies I misunderstood and thought this was an ongoing reason.
  9. Love it!!!!!! Not really, it's a place to avoid for several reasons.
  10. I'm not wishing to be personal with this response. You say your daughter is the main reason for not attending Ewood regularly. You also say you will attend "pretty much all weekend away games." My experience is away matches take up far more "precious time" than the 3.5 hours I spend going to Ewood every other Saturday. I'm not being critical but surely this is an example of a fan giving one reason for not attending when actually something else is the root cause? As I said I'm not criticising you but I think it demonstrates clearly the difficulty the club faces to understand and tackle the issue of ST sales.
  11. I completely agree. Ticket prices throughout the game are ridiculous and I wouldn't shell out £30-45 to watch Rovers on a regular basis. This is why we buy STs - this year I turned 65 and match day for me is £9.34 (JLW £215 ST). My son sits next to me for £15.17 with an ST at £349 according to the website - I can't recall what I exactly paid as it's two months since I renewed. Cheap tickets are readily available to those who want or are able to commit to the club for a season. I understand why not everyone is in that position.
  12. Yep. Football is for watching and not for worrying about for three months when there is nothing to watch. Who needs the stress? As for the last sentence. It keeps people happy but I don't see the point of three months speculation. I bob in when I'm a bit listless or want to look at the Brexit thread!
  13. I don't know if they are but it's unlikely to be cost effective and is therefore not pursued. Marketing phone calls? Pointless as many people don't answer unrecognised numbers or hang up when it's obvious the call is about marketing. Mail shots? Every single piece of unsolicited mail delivered to our house gets a cursory look at the envelope before going straight in the recycling bin. Only those with an envelope which suggests it might be important get opened, 30 second glance and binned. I actually don't buy from companies who use mailshots as I regard these as damaging to the environment. Same applies to unsolicited email, I usually look for the unsubscribe button and then delete without reading. Most people know where to buy products they want. There is little Rovers can do in this respect.
  14. Waggot asks where have they all gone? It seems a reasonable question to me. I could list 30-35 people who used to go in the 90s/00s. Slowly but surely they've dropped by the wayside for a wide range of reasons. They still consider themselves as Rovers but have other things to do. The only way to significantly increase attendance is PL football. Using low attendances as yet another reason to kick the club achieves nothing and is possibly counterproductive.
  15. Have you been to a cinema recently to make a price comparison?
  16. I don't follow the game during the summer so I've been looking at our signings ahead of today's game. Taking Christian Walton as an example I feel the loan system has now reached a ridiculous situation and is probably being abused by PL clubs. He was a Plymouth youth player till 2013 when he signed for Brighton - 6 years ago. In two years at Brighton he made three senior starts. He has spent the past four seasons at other clubs and is about to start a fifth in the same situation. To call him a Brighton player is ridiculous. This is a great example of a PL club signing a player who may have potential then offloading him and his wages to other clubs who will develop him. If he fails Brighton can bin him at cost. This is ridiculous. If a club believe in a player's potential they should take on the responsibility and cost of developing him. Alternatively leave these players to make their way through the leagues until they have proven themselves. This would allow the smaller clubs to benefit from transfer fees, build better squads and possibly retain players. As things stand these players simply cost smaller clubs money for no financial benefit. One great benefit of the transfer system was the influx of substantial fees was often a significant contribution to smaller clubs budgets and kept money flowing through the game. The loan system further concentrates money and power in the hands of 20 clubs. At a time when large numbers of lower league clubs are struggling financially the whole system needs to be overhauled.
  17. According to the official website they have: First team 7 U23s 4 U18s 8
  18. The Premier League, Sky TV, world-wide broadcast rights and the collective failure of club chairmen and directors to control wages and spending. It really is that simple. Football sold its' soul 27 years ago. It's simply got worse with every season that has passed.
  19. The BWFC situation may be disgraceful but I trust people appreciate it is nowhere near the suffering our government had inflicted on the country in recent years. Anyone want to rattle a bucket? https://www-bbc-co-uk.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/education-48037122?amp_js_v=a2&amp_gsa=1&usqp=mq331AQA#referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&amp_tf=From %1%24s
  20. Exactly. Disciplined and honest players.
  21. Apologies I thought I heard 23m mentioned on TV last night. Apparently the peak audience was 11.7m being 50% of the available audience and the largest for ANY TV programme in 2019 to date. No I didn't see England v Cameroon. You don't have to accept my argument, I don't mind. Everyone I've spoken to thinks the WWC has been a wonderful advert for the women's game and puts male players to shame. I simply think the men's game is shit. Other than Rovers I rarely watch it because I am sick to death of watching cheating multi-millionaires denying the paying fan a full 90 minutes of entertaining and honest football.
  22. It's just you. 23 million watched the game. The men's game is the one that's shit. Nothing but cheating, whinging, overpaid, over hyped, massively over exposed and so one-sided it's not even worth looking at the PL table. The WWC has been a breath of fresh air for which every player deserves credit. The only thing for me worth watching in the men's game is Rovers. The rest is, and has been for a long time, complete bollocks.
  23. So refreshing to watch and so much better than the total bollocks the men"s game has become. Honest footballers, none of the cheating no marks we see in "professional" men's football. Rovers apart I'd watch the women's game in future over the men's every time.
  24. Have we changed finance companies? I've always thought the club should work with a credit union as this could help some sections of support. Tried to get this going with Rovers Trust but sadly it came to nothing.
