  1. A singing section in the DE didn't really work for most games. I think that was fan lead? Why would a club lead initiative be any different?
  2. I think this will answer your question. I did lose the will to live about halfway through it. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48218727
  3. I understand the point you make and yes it probably would be a smaller competition. Being old enough to have watched, listened or read about, the real European nights I see it differently. The nights of a rain sodden Anfield or Old Trafford in grainy black and white photographs or TV. Waiting for the next day's newspaper for a report. Foreign teams we probably only really new by name. These were the nights when clubs like Liverpool built their European history. Utd beating Benfica at Wembley in '68 with probably half the country watching or listening. I realise I sound like an old fart harking back to a golden era but it really was so much better, so different, so exciting. The current format is simply boring. I can't recall the last European game in any competition I watched. I probably would have watched Liverpool this week if it had been on accessible TV.
  4. I didn't watch either match but there can be no denying the extraordinary quality of the results. I have a problem though. The "Champions" League final will be played between two teams who failed to win a championship last season and are likely to finish second and fourth this season. Basically the final is a Premier League match and has little to do with "Champions." Another great example of the ills of the modern game. The European Cup determined the Champions of Europe not this money making exercise.
  5. Hardly. Forbes say Messi earned $84m and Ronaldo $61m in the year June 2017-18!
  6. Exactly what I was saying 10-12 years ago or more. All this get the kids in free etc. Make them a Rover for life is all very good until they move away. It does absolutely zero for future attendance. In the 90s 30-40 people, mainly kids, left our village for Ewood every Saturday. Today it's 5-6. Why? All moved away. A huge investment by Williams in future attendance but mostly wasted.
  7. I always feel sorry for those disabled fans. It can't be much fun isolated from the bulk of their fellow travelers. I don't think I've seen this anywhere else. It's almost discriminatory.
  8. I've been exiting the JWL through the disabled gate in the corner with the DE for several seasons. We walk through away fans to the central car park gate. Other than a few 16 year olds squaring up to large policemen I've not seen any trouble. I accept it may happen but I've yet to see any.
  9. It's worth noting this could be a "continuous payment authority" rather than a direct debit. To check this if you're asked for your long card number it's a CPA if asked for bank account details it's a DD. Anyone using a credit card will be signing up for a CPA as this is the only way to make regular payments from a CC. It's much harder to cancel a CPA and it gives the company the authority to take whatever it wants whenever it wants. This one auto-renews each year. I may be wrong but that is how it looks to me.
  10. While I realise you're offering examples I feel the club would need to be a lot more creative than this. I do find it very hard to think of any new idea but do like the suggestion of discounts for loyalty. On an entirely selfish basis allowing ST holders out of the DE end car park ahead of away coaches would improve my matchday experience. We often wait 20-25 minutes to get out. I realise it's probably a police issue but I'd guess near 100% of those paying £200 for parking are ST holders. Perhaps the car parks at the BBE and DE should be disabled and ST only??
  11. I only used your £400 as I always feel you're more likely to be aware of these things than me. I've forgotten what I paid this season for the JWL and what the BBE price was. You're spot on with people's perception of value and for me £20ish/match is good value. Above this and I would no longer see it as good value but I would continue to go. I'm on a pension these days so there would come a point, don't know how much, when it was unaffordable though as I'm 65 in July I guess my cost will reduce. I fell out of love with football years ago. Apart from 2-3 Chorley games and one at Turf Moor each season all I watch is Rovers. No TV, red button**, radio etc. I'm very much a fan with no interest outside of Ewood. I see your point re comparing matchday with ST price. Given the majority of our crowd are ST holders this is where the marketing emphasis should go. ** I'm always fascinated by this "red button" as I've never managed to use it. I've never seen it advertised nor received marketing materials. Is it a Sky thing? I have Sky broadband but nothing else. I'm not convinced the red button is a big deal, I know of no one who uses it.
  12. Definitely not because I've taken the time to ensure I'm buying the cheapest possible ticket given the circumstances. If I rock up at Piccadilly for a London train at 8.00am Monday I'll pay through the nose, book in advance after 9.00 it's cheap, often so cheap we go 1st class. Same applies to many types of purchase including Rovers: Cheapest = ST Cheaper = up to 12.00 Saturday Expensive = after 12.00 Saturday
  13. Surely it's about trying to get a crowd in rather than rewarding ST holders? I get rewarded at every game by paying £15/16 when others are paying £30ish - that is high I agree and I wouldn't pay £30. I'd also say we are not long suffering. Decent season at a fair price. What's to be unhappy about? The main reaction I heard from ST holders against Oxford was "where have they been all season?" No reaction to price and if thousands turn up for Swansea my, and others around me, will think exactly the same again. I pay a reasonable price to watch Rovers and couldn't care less if the Swansea tickets are less than mine. Where there is a huge issue is the season long differential between match day and ST prices. If match day prices dropped by, for example, 30% I would expect the same for my ST.
  14. I don't understand why people think watching Rovers is expensive. I can't recall how much a BBE ST was this season or how much I paid in the JWL. @Mattybluesuggested £400 as a possibility for the BBE next season. That's £17/game against £30ish walk on. By all means argue £30 is expensive but don't argue ST holders are being ripped off at £17/match - it's great value. I went to Chorley recently. Semi-pro football, OK but nothing like watching Rovers. Standing, no roof or terrace in some spots, couldn't get food/coffee, no parking, one toilet (I think), only one entrance and exit. I could go on. £10 at Chorley compared to what I get at Rovers for £+/-£15/16. How can anyone argue we are expensive? If I wanted to watch Chorley regularly I feel £5 is about right. I'm making a comparison not complaining, it was a fun afternoon.
  15. Very nice. I don't do Twitter and only ocassionaly YouTube but can see how these really help people. On the Match Thread clicking takes one to the first post. Can this be made so one goes to the last read post?
  16. My own feeling is they will look to get their "investment" back. It seems to me there are two ways to achieve this: Take a big chunk out and if we are relegated continue to take cash from the parachute payments. Invest sufficiently to stay up, perhaps 30-40% of cash, take a debt repayment, use the PL kudos for marketing purposes and repeat till the debt is paid. Burnley are a good example to follow and there is no logic to putting Rovers in debt.
  17. Very much agree with this and, sadly, for most clubs it is the sensible way to approach the PL. Should Rovers get promoted I'm sure we would take a similar view, spend a little and bank/pay off Venkys with the balance.
  18. You need to keep in mind the core of BRFCS posters, not necessarily the one you quoted, have nothing positive to say about the club. Team performance, selection, management, ticket prices, club management and every other aspect of Blackburn Rovers is subject to subjective criticism. I knew before logging in the thread would be full of complaints about a good away win it was just a question of which aspect. We won and I expected nothing less than a team selection which took every opportunity to do so. Any other selection is disrespectful to the fans, especially those who travelled, opposition and league. How often do we hear complaints about PL teams playing second string in cup matches rendering them meaningless? The only surprise is how many in here have not applied to be club manager or CEO when they clearly feel able to do a better job than the incumbents.
  19. Ah yes I do recall hearing about that. Clearly had a big impact on me!!!!
  20. What was that? As an 1875 member and ST holder I don't recall being offered anything. I have to admit the club sends out so much meaningless email I stopped reading these years ago.
  21. This has been obvious for months. Much as I love Charlie we defend better without him.
  22. Yes, you're right and it seems to me to be entirely appropriate. There are far too many one minute silences these days. Largely these lose impact because they are so frequent. I think, not sure, there was one for Emiliano Sala. There certainly were at PL games. I realise it's tragic but he hadn't even played in the UK. If a Nantes player dies in a car crash tomorrow nothing will be done for him.
