  1. To repeat what I wrote a couple of years ago. I would rather that we didn’t make many more signings which can block our talents from playing time. we need some additions, but fill up the squad with loanees such as Morton, ACD and Hirst instead of playing our own players is in my opinion the wrong decision. especially when it comes to young Tyjon I think it is instrumental that we show him a pathway to a lot of gametime. This will be important for him to sign a new contract
  2. De Neve has already scored in pre season, against Beck.
  3. On the striker issue; I think VI said that we need more players chipping in with goals. So far in preseason we got goals from Gueye, De Neve, Ohashi x 2, Cantwell, Tyjon and AK. I don’t think we will sign a new striker or are on the look out for one. However no playing time for Leonard. A couple of injuries and we would be in big trouble.
  4. Don’t forget Forshaw? But has he been injured? Not played much and looks behind Montgomery in the pecking order
  5. Wonder when Tavares is ready, hard to say we need another CM when we haven’t seen our signing yet.
  6. Lovely away support! Lots of fun banter (songs), Venky’s out, Senegalese flag in the crowd when Gueye scored and a great day. Very pleased to meet some nice people who are always welcoming and polite to a Scandinavian supporter 🙂
  7. Thanks. Driving from Torrevieja. Will probably be there 30 mins before kick-off. Living in Norway this is my first game in 11 years! I am stoked!
  8. To those who went to the first match. Is the parking close to the ground?
  9. Any club merchandise sold at preseason matches?
  10. Can’t see many takers for Buckley to be honest. He has lost his way a bit. He is a great passer, but a bit too lazy.
  11. Isn’t Forshaw considered CM? Tronstad, Trav, Tavares and Forshaw? it will be exciting to see what happens with Buckley. Always held him high in regard and thought he would establish himself, but time is running out.
  12. Arsenal may be harder to resist given their strong track record of promoting young talent. They have already signed Christian Norgaard, Kepa and Noni Madueke in the summer. From the article about Tyjon. That’s quite contradictory. Saying in one sentence that they have a strong record of promoting talent and now trying to to buy their way to the top. not many homegrown talents left in Arsenal. Most have gone elsewhere.
  13. saying Wharton isn’t fit and he wants a new CB could be a way to set himself up for «being happy» when McLoughlin is here. Then he has his CB.
  14. My apologies, it was Ryan Alebiosu who was an Arsenal academy kid. I have been furious with us playing loanees such as ACD and Tyler Morton instead of our own. I personally love the route we are taking with our own more playing time. in some cases it has worked out well with JVP and Harvey Elliot, but the club has no gain on it afterwards.
  15. no point using this thread to discuss this more, I think we agree on a lot of things and we disagree on others. I think we are going in a healthy direction, and having been involved in a board for a football club I know how extremely difficult running a football club is. There is small margins for error which can lead to a negative spiral. This is spending too much, too high wages and investing wrongly. With Rovers as with my kids when they say the other kids can do that or get that, I don’t give two pennies. I care about me, myself and my family and try to make the most out of it. I don’t care what other clubs spend, because in my book big money spendings are not necessarily the ones that shine the most. looking forward to seeing our biggest signing this summer Tavares who comes with English language, Arsenal academy, International experience and network and ticks most boxes. Looking forward to see the blue and whites against Elche later 🙂
  16. They did destroy the club from the off, and the Steve Kean era was absolutely devastating. It felt like slow torture that never ended. I was at Stamford bridge when we got relegated and it was not the club I had fallen in love with. Slowly they have taken better decisions. They have invested a lot in our academy which is of great importance for a small club like ours (attendance, turnover etc). over two the part about the summer transfers: We have a wage/turnover ration we have to live by. We didn’t have to that under Jack. This is what makes the football world extremely difficult nowadays. Those American owners (having entered the marked lately) have a completely different nous for social media, media expose and how to create turnovers. I remember at the time the potential owner who went on to buy Racing Santander. We would not be better off with him. Let’s talk about the Cardiff owner, Sheff wed. At least Venkys doesn’t send us to misery and for me after Mowbray came in the family feel for the club came back. We have a lot to be proud of and we are pushing for playoff every season. Never a dull game. Homegrown talents. over to the part about the summer transfers: I mean, this is just my opinion. Not everything works and is rousy, but as I said earlier; every transfer comes with a risk and you are taking to big of a risk by having too much players without any resell value; this is both Weimann and Batth. Likely not the smallest wages coming from several clubs having increased their wages everytime. Then I am more in favor of saving those wages to be able to give more wages to an exciting prospect from our own academy (such as Trav) or when we try to aquire someone: We did say the exact same things last summer and then both Gueye and Ohashi got signed late July and then Cantwell and Toth, all money signings.
  17. THis post about the Brittain transfer stalling and right before Journo saying Boro could be willing to pay 2.5m while we want 3m. This reeks of lowballing. Hopefully Eustace tries to get Brittain as well.
  18. FFP and they way the big boys have changed everything has destroyed so much. I agree that Venkys have been horrible owners in a lot of aspects, but it is impossible to say if we would be better off with other owners or the existing owners. Football has changed a lot the last decade and unfortunately in favour of the big few. Just look at Club World cup. Its farcical. Donald Trump handing over a throphy in a meaningless cup. Makes me puke.
  19. Complete BS. We were after him last summer as well. He has been highly regarded by our staff for at least one summer.
  20. I have seen the type of thing we are discussing now unfold at my local team (which used to play in the top division). We had a manager who loved to play the old and reliable and didnt give the youth much playing time. One by one they left for other clubs. 3 of them played in the Europeal League seminfinal for Bodø Glimt. Only one we got money for, the other two we didnt get a thing. A.Wharton is what it is. We should be proud and happy that we get to see these talents evolve at the might blue and whites. To stop giving playing time to young prospects will lead to them going elsewhere and develop there instead without getting big money. The balance is important, but looking. at Montgomery for example; Just chucking in a body on RB to have some and then reducing his playing time is not a very strategy in my opinion. And all players comes with risk. Some of the biggest investments in the top clubs have been flops. Lots of money chucked at a players doesnt guarantee success. What I dont like, but fully understand is that we are buying from relegated teams such as De Neve. History has thought us that it would be better to bring in bodies that are used to promotion instead of relegation, but then again we dont have the negotiation power needed.
  21. Sounds like trying to negotiate via Journos to see if we are desperate and make Brittain even more uncomfortable.
  22. I do miss the times when we last had a Big sale, P. Jones, splashed 6.80m on Scott Dann and nearly 4m on Goodwillie recouping 1.5m. Running a football club is extremely difficult. Minimizing risk is a clever way to do it. When it comes to not backing Eustace, he was delighted with both Sanderson and Forshaw in the Jan window. In addition we brought in AK and Dennis. The summer transfer window I think most supporters were pleased with.
  23. A very important part of it is not playing old players all the time which blocks the development of the young players. Without saying anything about needing a new RB or LW it is a fact that more bodies makes it tougher for our youth players to be a part of it, even getting 10-15 mins cameos.
