  1. Armstrong should have scored 1-1. He doesn't finish well when he has to think about it.
  2. To be fair if a keeper leaves and the other one is Steele, then Walton is nailed on to be on the bench. Not good enough for me though.
  3. Gallagher looks like some one who could be a centre forward and mix it physically (still think he could be stronger mind). BB I just don't get what his strength is. If it's carrying the ball, I'm not sure how he fits into any team as he certainly can't cross it. Like Kevin Davies had to go away and adapt his game, BB needs to focus on an element of his game that will nail him a position because he's the best at the club at doing it. Not sure he has that in him but Kevin Davies (the bullying defenders version) didn't really materialise till his mid to late 20s. Every chance that if BB does turn out to be a useful player, it will be at another club 4-5 years down the line.
  4. Gallagher really frustrated me last season. His performances last year showed a player whose career had stagnated at Southampton. He needed to move permanently (somewhere) after his first season with us. He got that new contract though and 2 years of loan/reserve football followed. That was wasted time for him. Granted he was played out of position most of last season which didn't help him either. This season is massive for him. He can't play on the wing so it's up top or nothing. Armstrong's goals have earned him the CF spot - but he can play out wide. Interesting that Dack also said he liked playing with Armstrong cutting in from the left. So personally, I'd like to see SG given the first 10 games playing as the central striker - especially if we are playing more with 'winger' types out wide. If he doesn't deliver goals/better performances then time to move on.
  5. Did well against reading to be fair.
  6. Quite possible that, like Dack, Bell etc, we have a year option. He did look better (and stronger) post lock down although he'd set a very low bar previously. He should have gone on loan last year IMO. I agree he should only play on merit..but how does he earn the right to merit a place?
  7. Brereton should be loaned out this season -with perhaps a loan striker brought in. He's got time on his side and a year playing and toughening up in league one or two would do him the world of good. He bags goals and he's ready for a shot back in the rovers side the following season. He doesn't, then it's really time to write him off.
  8. This proposed 18 million wage cap and squad of 25 would be an absolute result for rovers and to be fair any champ club with a cat 1 academy. It could give us a real advantage over the next couple of seasons -at this level. It would allow us to compete wage wise with clubs currently spending much more on salaries. There's no way clubs could carry £20-30k per week bench warmers. It should: A) Give the club no excuse to compete for the best players at this level throughout Europe (certainly out of contract players). Provide a clear route for the best academy prospects. C) Limit the turnover of first team players so we aren't in a position where we need 5/6 each year. It should be just one or two. D) Allows the emphasis to be on recruitment of the younger player - where we have the advantage of top level under 23 football and established set up. - like the lad Dolan signed from PNE. Obviously a forward thinking club/management would be all over this opportunity. ??‍♂️
  9. If you had enough brass left for a Godfather at 2am, that was usually a bigger result than pulling ?
  10. Strange how we see things. I thought he got steadily worse post Christmas. Rather his wage went elsewhere.
  11. I wonder how much the agent is getting? Let's hope it's not another Rochina job.
  12. Ajayi stood out in that Rotherham side. Would have been a great purchase for sensible money. Just like Kipre would be this year. I just don't get the penny pinching with defenders.
  13. Agreed. Needs to go on Twitter first.
  14. Any whispers of a possible left back?
  15. Agree. He needs to be pragmatic. Ditching the wide forwards for natural wide players would help. Then the full backs dont need to push up as much.
  16. If we do a proper job with the defence, we won't need to score three every week to win. Less pressure on the strikers.
  17. Nearest player stature wise for me would be Scott Sellars. He did ok but played wide. It might be that Buckley remains a slight player - in which case he needs to learn the dark arts of buying free kicks - watch plenty of old videos of Xavi in his Barca days.
  18. I would say Buckley is quite happy to get stuck in and put a tackle in despite his stature. But..he often gets physically dominated when in possession of the ball. He was eased off it numerous times last season by more robust players.
  19. Twas a little tongue in cheek. It made me chuckle that you decided the bid would be for Dack because you'd rather lose him than Armstrong. If we get to choose someone....
  20. I'd choose Williams. I'd prefer to lose him over Dack or Armstrong. We have witnessed life without Williams.
  21. That doesn't seem like value. Type of player you'd may be take a punt on at £1-£2 mil - given his age and failure at Brentford.
  22. Really? On the evidence of what?
  23. Not sure he has to play Gally/BB more - he has to play them more effectively. We could play with Armstrong up top and Rothwell (although that lad Dolan looks more effective out wide than Rothwell from today's cameo) Dack as a '10' Chapman wide. Two wide players who have the feet to go outside or inside. As long as balls are played into feet or down the sides of the CBs - those players could cause all types of problems. Alternatively you put Gallagher up top and 3 play off him. Allowing the use of higher balls centrally. Again, it needs TM to decide on the approach he wants and preferably not piss about with it each week. These long diagonal balls to wide centre forwards don't work and Gallagher really struggled out there. What shouldn't happen is Gallagher and Brereton get shoe horned into the 11 because if what they cost - only if they complement the system. We've got an abundance of 'attacking players', Holtby, Rothwell, Chapman, JRC, Buckley, Vale, Butterworth, Dolan - who could be utilisedas well as the more reliable goal threat of Armstrong/Dack. It only needs one of those other players to make the break through and add goals to make Gallagher and Brereton irrelevant. That depth of under 23 players up front is in complete contrast to the defensive options available. Hence why all efforts should be made to strengthen the whole back line. It will have been a great window if the likes of Williams and Bennett don't appear in the back 4 next season. Apologies for the waffly post ?
