Was there not something mentioned about recoverite being involved in the physio / recovery side of the club? I wonder if the rumours around the “skeleton staff” at Ewood means they weren’t being involved how they would like to have been, or weren’t receiving the data they should have been getting or something

It’s strange for a brand to pull out without going bust or struggling financially. Recoverite must have good reason…

Also I may be naive but I always assumed that sponsorship was paid up in advance or at least on an annual basis etc?

This is a commercial negotiation. Let’s hypothetically say that your company was about to sign a contract with another party & for whatever reason, you weren’t totally satisfied that they were going to fulfil their side of the bargain to the letter. Would you pay all the cash up front ? A bit like employing a builder - always negotiate a sizeable retention payment.

Such a deal structure suggests that there were rights & obligations on both parties with built in termination events in the event of dissatisfaction.
There is no evidence to suggest Recoverite have gone bust but equally, they aren’t immune from COVID; so if they felt they weren’t getting value for money then termination makes sense for them.

If both of the above are the rules then if a club registers a u21 player today, they won't be eligible to play until the next fulfilled fixture? Then after that they are golden?

The point being that if you are a club that wants to postpone, whilst this guidance is operational it’s a get out of jail card.
“We have 25 fit players but 15 of them have never played for the first team…so we’re stuffed…” type thing.

However, Leeds put a 15 y/o on their bench last Sunday.

Lee Dixon was co-commenting the City game on Saturday. He and Arlo White were discussing the Arsenal postponement. I missed a bit of it but Dixon was saying that Prem rules are such that you can't play the u-18's. I need to read some more on it but I think that each club has to name a Prem squad and there's a limited number in it. I also don't know how often it can be changed.

For a COVID postponement apparently, kids only count if they’ve already made an appearance i.e. you can’t give a debut to a kid to make up a “COVID” XI. This means that clubs like Leeds who routinely give debuts to youngsters have a bigger “COVID” squad to choose from & would find it harder to request a postponement.

In the current climate, this encourages clubs NOT to blood youngsters which is what many fans are saying they should be doing so they can fulfil fixtures.

I also heard an interesting theory on The Football Ramble podcast which is that the PL don’t want matches televised without “star names” playing as it devalues their product.

On the Garlick thing, apparently if we get relegated he has the option to buy back at a fixed price. Sounds like a really strange deal they did.

Agreed…this is very odd. The valuation of the club depends on its net assets and earnings stream. How would the two parties arrive at an agreeable figure based on conjecture ? Out of the Prem, income dries up, LBO interest has to be met & players either have to be sold or take wage cuts (parachute payments notwithstanding).

A number of Burnley fans who have revelled in our mismanagement may soon look on with envy if they don’t sort it out…

I've just noticed that Football Aid (the charity that organised games at Ewood Park) has just ceased trading. https://www.footballaid.com/

Always been a dream of mine to play at Ewood and I'd saved up the money to play when I turned 30, but I snapped my ACL returning to Saturday league (after 52 minutes) and couldn't sign up. Been hoping they'd get the postponed game rearranged at some point so I could get involved. Absolutely gutted.

Did anyone have the chance to play in one of these games or were due to play in the covid-postponed game?

Would be nice to hear of anyone's experiences of it.

Oh that’s really sad. I played the day after *that* night at Deepdale…remains to this day one of the happiest memories of my life…best £150 I ever spent…

Graeme Souness lurked around waiting to be interviewed by TV & my sister grabbed this photo of him with my nephew…!
