  1. We had a couple of mates over from Hull who found themselves sat near the bloke who shouted out, seems he was too drunk to realise what was going on.

Apparently the fellow Hull fan sat immediately in front of him turned round and smacked him so hard he couldn't breathe for the rest of the silence, never mind make any further noise.

It's a credit to everyone in the Darwen End (upper and lower) that the rest of the minute was observed in impeccable silence ... because usually after an unfortunate incident like that the whole thing degenerates.

I hope John's family found some solace through the respect of the 23,000 fans and both clubs tinykit.gif

I remember once maybe 10 years ago there was a minutes silence for someone I can't recall and we were playing Leeds, the Leeds fans started a 'One Don Revie' chant and the Rovers fans stayed remarkably calm until after the whistle was blown.

  2. Yeah it was a shame someone had to ruin it especially with what looked like his family next to the pitch

The chant was a nice touch but I didn't join in, I didn't know the lad nor the circumstances around his death I wouldn't feel right if I joined in.

  3. Finally saw Taken last night, very good movie. Not quite as good as Law Abiding Citizen but still excellent. Liam Neeson has been one of my favourite actors since Rob Roy.

I dodn't know Rob Roy was an actor :P

Princess and the Frog is now out and I'm looking forward to it, love old school disney animation, also got Up Blu ray on pre order.

  4. The Sun newspaper makes me sick, where do they get these vile headlines from about the tragic incident! Johns mum says in the LT that the police told her the bin has hit him on the back of the head following it being chucked around, but the sun makes it out to be game that has gone wrong as if it's done at every home game.

I will never buy that paper again!

    R.I.P John

As Mellison said, the jist of what the sun saying was the common conception by most (including myself), if this wasn't Rovers related and some other team I imagine people on here would come to conclusions about what happened in a similar way to that of which the Sun did.

It is a sham of a paper though but we knew that anyway.

I may get attacked for this as I wasn't there but there is blame to be placed on some of our own fans somewhere down the line as no matter how it's protested or portrayed, throwing bottles and a bin is more than fans just messing around and is a recipe for disaster.

  5. i dont think your being heartless, ut i think it is times like this when it makes you really realise what football is "A GAME", it makes you really appreciate what is important. some of the behaviour at away games is truely embarassing, on wednesday there will be a minuites silence and flowers will be laid down and i think that is right, human lives are so much more important than a game and it should be treated that way!

KEEP THE BLUE FLAG FLYING HIGH!

Indeed as I said I think there should be a minutes silence but the 2 minutes silence should be reserved for the likes of Uncle Jack or the war dead.

  6. A minutes silence on Wednesday would be apt, anything else maybe too much. Not trying to sound heartless but where does it then stop?

I hope his family is coping through these horrible times, I suppose his son wont fully understand where his dad is and how he wont be coming back.

    Horrible.

  7. I was at this game, and bought two plastic bottles of beer before the game. The tops were removed "as they could be used as a missile"

How the hell can it be possible to use a bin as a missile but a bottle top is forbidden? Why was the bin not firmly fixed to the ground?

I am devestated to hear the news of this lad passing away, devastated.

What is the point of stewards if they stand to one side and watch this unfold?

    Unbelievable set of circumstances.

RIP Fella, and to Preston Blues nephew

come off it mate this is of no fault of stoke city at all and solely the fault of a group of rovers fans, it probably seemed like fun to them nut has ended trafically

sad that he's lost his life but that's nothing compared to the fact q kid has lost his dad in stupid stupid circumstances

  8. If their brains were made of dynamite it wouldn't blow their hats off! Scum of the earth. The sad thing is, they are not 15 year olds, they are mature ( in age only) young men who lack basic intelligence, have no moral footing, see nothing wrong in what they do and actually relish in it. Sad sad people who are not worthy of mention. The poor lad who is injured however is. Hope the ones responsible sleep well tonight - maybe they are all sleeping together!

Not to speak ill of someone in a grave condition but for all we know he was one of the numpties involved in the bin throwing so it would be wrong to assume anything right now.

Either way I really hope he pulls through nobody should lose thier life in such idiotic circumstances and rob a family of their son/brother, maybe even father and husband.

  9. Sorry Theno but that comment has to go down as one of your low-lights on this board.

I thought it was a good comment to be fair. Theno stated he wasn't aware if what exactly happened but if a bin was flying around it could very well have hit any of the fans on the concourse and anyone maybe related to us could be fighting for their life in this way.

Lets hope he pulls through but the incident and our away following in general will have to be looked into obviously either way

  10. I'd like to thank Benni for having the priviledge of being able to watch him playing in the famous blue and white shirt.

A big thank you must also go to Mark Hughes and everyone at the club for bringing him to the club.

We shouldnt be so sour to what was a sad ending but arent they all ?

Good luck Benni and thanks for the memories.

Agreed JAL, Benni was great to watch when on his game, it's a shame it has come to this as I think he has acted in an appalling manner this week.

I'm glad we had him for thats for sure.
