  1. Too old Tony? I'll go for Le Saux.
  2. The Home Office's site explains quite nicely that a Banning Order is to prevent future disturbances based on a person's history of bad behaviour. Normal criminal law means the police have to wait until after a crime has been committed before taking action. The banning orders reverse the sequence. They seem very similar to Anti Social Behaviour Orders which are being used quite widely here in Manchester. If the Manchester Evening News' reports are anything to beleive the recipients of these ASBOs are violent scum who make the lives of normal people a complete misery. A few weeks ago The Guardian ran a long article on the ASBOs in Manchester. Even that paper, known for its left-wing/liberal/tolerent viewpoint, couldn't hold a balanced view after meeting the recipents of the orders and their families. If the Banning Orders are made then the police will have to prove a case to a Magistrate, and circumstantial evidence and conjecture will not be enough. There will have to be some hard evidence of past bad behaviour, and a likelyhood that it will happen again.
  3. Glass half full, glass half empty. That can be turned round to read the other way.
  4. You're in good company there CS Tom Waits' "Rain Dogs" (1985) "Uncle Verlin, Uncle Verlin, independent as a hog on ice. He's a big shot down there at the slaughterhouse, plays accordian for Mr. Weiss."
  5. What is all this betting and odds tummy-rubbish? If the bets were being placed by the people who are actually going to choose the next manager then it might make sense. Unless John Williams has been seen at William Hill's slapping the transfer kitty on Glenda (for example) then the who thing is a charade. Speculation Geese work As meaningful as a horoscope. I think we should appoint Swansea's manager. He's really good.
  6. Cheeky & Bob, You've just about summed it up for me. Thanks Graeme, time to move on for you. The last 12 months here you lost the plot. Good luck in Newcastle.
  7. Thanks Capt & Alan, That's me resigned to some hours watching some old videos to find something......I'll report back. No doubt with proof of my advancing senility.
  8. Hang On Capt, Wasn't Richard Brown a left back? And if nothing else I recall his scoring one absolute screamer against someone or other. He was still rubbish though.
  9. Where the hell is Simon Grayson? OK, I'll go with the blooming obvious
  10. I'm not too worried about Bobby. He's been sacked by a pillock and will probably get loads of compensation. He's probably got millions in the bank to spend in his retirement and he'll no doubt get a lucrative contract with a broadcasting company to commentate on future matches. Lucky sod. He could probably do without the "player power" bull that he has had to put up with over the past few years and the lies and deceit of Newcastle's chairman. Enjoy your golf. Your house in Spain and your bulging bank account. Jealous. Moi?
  11. Damien Johnson; Martin Taylor; David Dunn; & now Dwight Yorke. Is there a greasy pole twixt Ewood & St Andrews?
  12. Why thank you. I shall be alert.
  13. "Night: her sable dome scattered with diamonds Fused my dust from a light year......" "Lizard" by King Crimson. from 1970 Wooooo wooooo The walls are breathing, I can fly, watch me take off. More flapjack vicar.
  14. Just trying to make sense of today's game. On the up side.... (1) Brad Friedel..is he brilliant or what? (2) Bert Emerton..has he ever played so well for us? He was outstanding today, His run and cross for Pederson to miss was brilliant and he really worked his socks off. Nice one Bert. (3) The team spirit and committment when we went down to 10 men (4) If The Scum had scored after 15 minutes and we had equalised after 94 minutes then we would all be happy as Larry. (5) The Scum could only score due to a blatent handball. The ref missed it. (6) The butter pies at Kwik Save have got even better. mmmmmm tasty. (7) I've lost it.... (8) It did cross my mind that Abbey would be watching the match on his hols surrounded by Scum Fans......
  15. You mean they were really United "fans?" I thought you were making it up. * holds head in hands *
  16. I did too (about buying the title, my usual "it was only £18m" response) and received this very friendly reply: So, at least there is another small corner of the globe put to right
  17. That's Pedro written off PDQ
  18. If he's a Forest supporter he might just keep it to below double figures for Arsenal. If he's a County supporter we are in big trouble.
  19. Are they also the ones who tell you to light fires in the stationery cupboard?
  20. Bless you Smithy, too much of a gent to chant "You fat b*****d, you fat b*****d, you ate all the pies.
  21. I'd just like to grump along with Al on that point. Bloody useless mods, grump grump grump.
