[Archived] Three Cheers For Andrew Cole
colin replied to jim mk2's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Phil, I completely agree with you. The rotten press and media has blown this out of all proportion because they are simple-minded pillocks. So, just one 15 second round of applause for Cole will put it right. You don't have to do it because you mean it or because you think it's right. It'll just put the good name of our club back on board. It'll help distance us from those couple of pillocks. And the media will lap it up like the fools that they are. They will love it. We will suddenly become the most friendly club in the country. I know. Big fib. Sad isn't it? I just hope everyone at CC does the big cheer for Cole. -
My vote cast. Not telling anyone. Don't want to be involved in a bitch-fest-fight.

[Archived] Three Cheers For Andrew Cole

I think you are missing the point. It's not about Yorke being an idle sod, nor is it about his lifestyle. Regardless of what you think about either traits. Plenty of the crowd on Sunday made that point and it has not been an issue. It is about trying to get rid of this media rubbish that Rovers' fans are racists and to deal with the situation that the media has put us under in the best possible way. A good round of applause (albeit, if you want, through gritted teeth) will work wonders. Jim's suggestion is a good idea. It also doesn't matter in the slightest whether or not you think Andy Cole was good, bad, or indifferent. Of course if you are not bothered that Rovers' fans are portrayed by the rotten press as racists then feel free to abstain. -

Tris, I thought I'd done a decent job on my Manchester City preview, but that knocks the socks off it. I take my hat off to you. Colin -

[Archived] Rovers V Birmingham 3-3 (phew)

Funnily enough, I'd swap those markings. Toogs pass out right for Jansen's goal was sublime. Whereas Bert was about 30% (and I've measured this scientifically, with a ruler) "on top of his game." When he is on form, defenders are soiling their pants. Today there was no need for the placcy bag in the Brum dressing room, that's for sure. -
For heaven's sake will you all CALM DOWN The tabloid press are scum and are currently running the England - Spain game racism to death. It's this weeks news. Next week it will be some half-wit from a soap opera caught with his pants down. So, there are couple of half-wits who racially abused DY. Well that's great news for a tabloid, which cannot accept that most people at Ewood were giving him stick for being a lazy sod. There are bound to be a couple of racists in the crowd. One of them got ejected which ain't bad.

I'll agree with Quack, he's still a Rovers' fan. He's also now a professional footballer for Birmingham so he took his goal. I thought he did really well to keep it muted when he scored. The earliest example I can remember was when Dennis Law was wearing a Man City shirt and he scored against that other Manchester team and relegated them Oh happy daze! A more recent example was (if I remember correctly) Andy Johnson scored for Palace against Birimingham and he kept it quiet too. Perhaps a sign that there is a bit more to some players than ££££££s

Your second sentence suggests that the first is not really based upon any knowledge at all. What "less warped interpretations of The Koran" are you thinking about in particular? You have seemingly got slap-bang up-to-date information on Islamic teachings. Care to share this? But back on the subject This is a thought provoking article David Wilson is professor of criminology at the Centre for Criminal Justice Policy and Research -
Mr Bryan, I remember that one too. The problems were (i) He was wearing a Newcastle shirt at the time (ii) It was at Ewood (iii) Left foot (iv) Outside the penalty box Apart from that............

Wooo hoo! That's two of us then. Useless bugger. Went to Blackpool reserves and discovered they were too good for him. -
Ooooh, cat fight, scratch scratch scratch. Apart from two posters who are deliberatley starting a mock fight (and who should be ashamed of themselves) the rest of you are just bleating like little children. Cst your vote & then STFU. So says Colin as his Super Atko campaign goes down the drain.

USA, Apologies if I seemed a bit grumpy. I didn't mean to offend. It was probably a business/cultural shock. If that's the way you do things in the USA then so be it. I just think it's a bit rough on the poor sod who is marched out of the office on a Friday and has to hit the street, just because the bottom line doesn't add up. Back on topic..............

Do you really screw your "friends and colleagues" like that? If so, then with friends like you I suppose they don't need enemies. In the words of Jim Royle "Gut wrenching" my arse.""

Please spare us all such feeble and empty statements Matt, and explain what you mean. As Phil agreed these occurances are highly unlikely to happen, but we, as a society, give them very very high priority. In a similar vein eight people died in a "train accident" last week and it was all over the front pages. In fact it wasn't a "train accident" it was probably the result of a mentally ill man committing suicide. Rather like the "Great Heck train accident" of a year or so ago which was reported as being a "train accident" but was in fact a road traffic accident because some dozy sod stayed up all night and then fell asleep while driving his car, rolled off the road, and derailed a train, killing people in the process. Now imagine that the mentally ill man had not been suicidal and had decided to kill himself (and eight others,) but had instead decided to abuse children. I'm not certain whether I could accept the theoretical loss of one of my loved ones better or worse because the cause of their death was: (i) a sick paedophile (ii) a sick suicide or (iii) a bloody stupid motorist. If you want to exact revenge on (i) then logically you've got to do it on (ii) (apart from the fact he's dead anyway) & (iii) Anyhoo, just to finish off. Perhaps Rovermatt's comment was to suggest that cutting off people's hands and beheading would be a worthy alternative if you were in that frame of mind, but I'm sure you're not wanting to go up that avenue again. But I'll leave that to him/her to clarify Allah forbid. What did you think of our performance today? I reckon we did OK. -

Looks like I'm first (second now) back, so you'll have to do with me for now until someone more lucid posts a report. It was another of those games that we have played undr MH where the result doesn't quite match the performance. We played some good football in defence , midfield & attack but never quite did enough to grab the three points. A draw was a fair result to be honest. City's goal came from a SW-P's low & hard cross from the by-line which was one of those which is really hard to defend against. Sibersky (sp?) stormed in and was at the right place at the right time to smash it past Brad. The long awaited penalty with 10 minutes to go was just about a good a shout as you can expect. Dickov turned Mills in the area and was about to shoot when Mills pulled a baseball bat out of his back pocket (that's Mill's not Dickov's) and hit Dickov with it. He also pulled down his shorts (Mills on Dickov again) and tied his bootlaces together (thats Mills doing it to himself) Dickov sent James the wrong way, or at least he scored. I think I was all far too exited with the prospect of a penalty to properly register. General observations: Todd & Nissa looked very good at the back. I think that they may be there for some time. Jay Mc was OK at LB, a couple of misplaced passes but his tackling was spot on. On a couple of occasions he saved us from some very dangerous situations. Reid and Emerton (I've got there at last Rovers 6) swapped wings on a regular basis but also seemed to swap being good. "Here Steve, have the lucky "being good" rabbit's foot." "Thanks Brett, I'll let you have it back in about 10 minutes." I can't really comment on Steadinho as he was subbed at half time after playing at the other end. Matty certainly looked bright enough. -
Come on you Super Atko fans. Championship medal. 262 games. You've seem him play. You know you want to........... He was born in Scunthorpe.

Probably my preferred option too. There should be a more efficient way of treating paedophiles as mentally ill rather than criminals so that taking them out of society for long term treatment is an preferred option to a fixed-term jail sentance. I'll maintain my stance that the tabloids are scare-mongering scum just trying to whip up hysteria and paranoia. Correction: they are not trying, they've done it. I'm a nervous wreck when I lose sight of the daughter in the park. Even though I know that if she meets 100,000 strangers 99,999 of then will look after her. Strange isn't it, how we have all got ourselves in a right state over something that is highly unlikely to happen?
