  1. I would say that it is Monsieur Cantona ? Re the game, I think our lot were still on the international break until 15:30. Also, a bit rich for Mowbray to be making excuses re Graham and Mulgrew so soon after handing them new contracts. A bit of reality now setting in, and we will learn a lot more about where we're at by Christmas.
  2. Regardless of modern day boundaries, there is no way in the World that people in Bolton regard themselves as Mancunians. Bolton is a Lancashire town, like Blackburn, Preston, Blackpool etc. Some of us are old enough to remember when Radio Blackburn (now Lancashire) covered Wanderers matches.
  3. I couldn't go today so can look at the result quite dispassionately. I would've taken that result beforehand and would've taken the number of points we have and our league position at this stage. There's lots to work on, (e.g. conceding too many late goals), but the bigger picture looks very healthy indeed.
  4. I have an appointment at Specsavers next week. I'll let that ref have it as a priority case.
  5. I can't help but think that Derek Shaw is in some way responsible for the delay ?
  6. Or, on the other side of the coin, if he has no hunger to play at all, why not take a leaf out of Bentley's book and just retire? Pretty clear he's not going to be on the kind of wages he's used to, so there must be a fair chance he's signed for the right reasons. No fee involved, so worth a punt I reckon.
  7. R.I.P. Jimmy. A very sad day for my adopted home town.
  8. Agreed, and at least some of our promising youngsters may then get a sniff of a first team opportunity.
  9. Manager. It's his team, in the main, and the buck stops with him. There appears to be too many weak links in the squad to be hopeful of anything more than the Play Offs.
  10. My cynical side says we were waiting for the TV fixtures to be announced. Now that they have, and we're not one of them, they will probably stick a few quid on the price.
  11. When we drew them in the FA Cup several years ago when we were top dogs, I was apprehensive. We had everything to lose. Now the roles are reversed, so I'm looking forward to it.
  12. Fair play to Mowbray for fielding a strong side. Winning is a habit and last night's result is a boost to morale. There are only two senior cup competitions in a season and I don't agree with the modern trend of not taking them seriously. Here's to a home draw.
  13. As others have alluded to, at least Mowbray has the excuse of being relatively new. I am amazed at the levels of joy and optimism, (on social media more than on here), which have followed Mowbray's quotes about his meetings with the Raos. It's evident that some people simply never learn.
  14. "Top accountants" other than cardboard cutout Mike Cheston, who they have had running the show for the last year or so!
  15. Agreed. How, exactly, is that going to , "put doubt in people's minds?" I'm not suggesting we should go hung ho, but we have to be more positive than at Wolves. Playing for a draw in a game we need to win. Not liking the sound of it at all.
  16. Yes, like showing a little imagination when appointing managers and not signing a load of Pension top up players.
  17. We didn't win at Anfield in 1995. Villa will not be the problem. We will be. We are where we are because of a ridiculous managerial appointment last Summer, and death by a thousand cuts from our owners.
  18. I still think appointing a manager who left his previous club winless and bottom of the division below is odd, whichever way people try to dress it up. I was gutted when he was appointed, but he has done a little better than I expected, to date. If he keeps us up, fair play.
  19. In modern football, (& especially with clubs who have little money to spend, I believe 'young & hungry' is the formula for success. Apart from the obvious, (the owners), one of the main reasons we're about to go through another trapdoor is our abundance of washed up players topping up their pension pots. Look at the Barnsley team last Saturday. Hardly any recognisable names, had to sell key players this season, & yet full of youth and energy. There still has to be a balance with experience, and it's unrealistic to expect the youth system to produce every player in the team. I would also extend the 'young and hungry' ethos as far as the manager goes, particularly if, as expected, we get relegated. What is the logic of keeping a guy who left his previous club having failed to win any of the first eleven games in that division last season, (which made him another bizarre appointment in my book). League One would be the right setting to hire a young, hungry manager and allow him time to build a young team. Whilst I'm generally not a fan of bringing back ex players, I think Matt Jansen would be a good shout, having had relative success at Chorley. Damien Johnson also a reasonable shout. I wouldn't appoint Dunn as , in my opinion, he clearly lacks the nouse to be a manager. Only got the First Team Coach gig ahead of Johnson because of his name I think.
  20. http://bbc.in/2cWLPqK Seems a decent sort, but we are banking on a guy who couldn't muster a win in ten games at the start of this season, (in a lower division). "You can't build a club off loans". Well you're going to have to try here, Tony.
  21. It's unlikely, but if the gap is reduced to six points tomorrow night it will become uncomfortable again.
  22. One of my all time favourites and I had also hoped we would see him again when he left. Best wishes to Damien in whatever he does next.
  23. A result to bring a little much needed cheer. Don't hold your breath re Bowyer picking any of them.
  24. Perhaps Venky's are waiting for us to be non league to install him.
  25. I don't have a problem that they have a good relationship. I have a problem with the club's shambolic infrastructure and chain of command. If Desai actually understood football, how to run a football club and was over here running the show it would be fine.
