  1. I think the Lucy places are over rated and not worth going to; Zefferilli's (sp?) is quite good, especially if you combine a meal with cinema tickets.
  2. And at the 3 Fishes at Mitton, near Whalley.
  3. Some sad news for older fans that I have just seen in the LT of 9/9. Tommy Johnston, aged 81, has died recently. After retirement he moved to Poulton then emigrated to Australia in 1972. It really upset me in 57/58 when he scored a load of goals against us for Leyton Orient but he definetely helped us get promoted to Div 1.
  4. I think the fence Gate are opening the Spread Eagle at Barrow. I think he is involved in a restaurant in the Preston area and I understand he spends his time working there. He started off at the Anaz and had a spell at the Shahjan. I don't know if he is still involved with Roe Lee takeaway.
  5. Rangers have just scored.
  6. I think a lot of people will appreciate your post Darth Paul-Mark Atkins cost £40,000 as far as I remember.
  7. This might well be a factor, but it doesn't explain everything; despite his being here earlier in this decade, we still haven't produced a top division quality player in the 2000's.
  8. I haven't seen any youth team game since approx 3 years ago when they beat Coventry in some final or other, but I do talk to people who go to youth and reserve games. The general consensus is that no-one of Premiership quality is coming through the system, which, considering the amount of money going into the system, is unacceptable. I, of course, cannot offer the answer, but it is alleged that instead of Bobby Downes conducting a report into why the system isn't working, he should be asked to leave. At least then there might be players who deserve to move into the 1st team squad.
  9. What I think MH should be OBLIGED to do is to give more emphasis to improving the Youth set-up, after all, as I have posted elsewhere, this is the worst decade for the youth set-up's success in bringing players through to play in the top division. If we could provide a successful system, it would save a great deal of money and would enable us as a club to progress, as well as helping to create some, admittedly limited, loyalty in a group of the players. Man City produce players for their squad and I have read that Southampton have sold £45,000,000 of players in recent years.
  10. I read that he was out of the country on business.
  11. We won the battle against relegation the season he left. If we had played Sheffield Wednsday in a semi-final we might even have got to a final, and then if a big team had underperformed.....................
  12. Is the first one the same song as sung by the Animals around 1965?
  13. It was certainly a restaurant that had won a lot of awards so it was probably the Rupali. I seem to remember it was next door to a Coventry Building Society office.
  14. Some parts of the City are really quite nice. We once had a very good Indian meal in Tile Hill.
  15. I understand Gumboots is a language teacher.
  16. This is a message for Lathund-in case you missed the point Gumboots was making.
  17. At least MGP talks about the situation as "we" which I took to be a positive.
  18. I noticed in the LT today that Gallagher is the target for a mystery championship club " and Hughes may decide to do business, knowing the 23 year old has now reached the point in his career where he needs regular first team football. Gallagher is still highly thought of by Rovers but Hughes knows he cannot guarantee the player a regular place in his side, which may lead to his departure later in the window."
  19. He seems to like doing that-he certainly did it whilst with us.
  20. Whci is exactly what the man behind me at the match yesterday and who attends all away matches said.
  21. Sounds as though things are going wrong for Toshack-in the Daily Telegraph the Football Association of Wales official Phil Woosnam is quoted. " It's about time he accepts that things are not right with the national team. Everything is put on a plate for him and the players and there can be no excuses. The style of football is like watching paint dry. "
  22. Indeed Mark Patterson was in the LT a couple of nights ago-I think he has also gone bankrupt.
  23. I kind of wanted to get one-until I heard how much noise they made at the semi-final!
