  1. Because they have one year left on their contracts. Did we cash in on Nyambe, Rothwell, Lenihen? The owners can't run the club with an open cheque book(not that I think they would anyway)FFP has to be considered. We should start selling more players and start reinvesting the money. If Hirst has a good season and bangs in 15 goals then I'm sure most on here will be happy we have the option to make the deal permanent.
  2. Like we sold Armstrong and Brererton at the first opportunity you mean? We rarely sell players.
  3. Not now no that goes without saying. But If he scores and does well next season then he possibly will be. Even if a young English striker bags 10-15 goals in the championship their clubs are commanding 5...10...15 million to be bought outright. We ain't agreeing to pay £5 million for him now(that's if £5 mill is the actual figure)
  4. Too many games for Phillips. Id start Carter if Ayala is out and if Ayala fit I'd be putting Carter right back
  5. Nobody has offered 15 million if they had he would be gone
  6. They could have just sold him this summer is my point .We offered money to do a permanent deal this summer. To do the deal this way then Leicester would surely believe he could be worth the figure they have placed on his head
  7. How long ago was that loan spell? Brererton couldn't control a ball his first couple of seasons here and now he is a £20 million player. If he is so shit then surely Leicester would have been happy to take whatever money we offered for him on a permanent deal. With the exception of highlights I have seen nothing of him so I can't say wether he be a good signing or not. You seem pretty certain he won't be a good signing so il presume you have seen a bit of him.Is he decent with his back to goal?Good at bringing others into play? Can he act as a foil for a Dack or Szmodic coming into the box late from deeper? Like I said no idea on him but do think the option part of the deal is correct by the club.If he does well and scores a similar amount as he did at Pompey last season then even if £5 million is the amount then it would be a reasonable fee.
  8. Well no if he does well you would expect other clubs to be interested. This option takes away the danger of another team coming in and signing him instead of us after a decent season. Id rather a more experienced player coming in but if it was a choice of just a loan for Hirst or a loan with an option then the club are far better protected rather than it just being a straight up loan.
  9. We had him on loan in our relegation season, he scored 11 league goals.Wasnt a worldie but in terms of a loan he did well. He went back to Southampton signed a new contract and then spent that season on loan with Birmingham and then we signed him permanently in our second season back in the championship
  10. Gallagher did do well in his initial loan spell. I wouldn't have gone back for him @ 5 million two years later, but he did do well when he spent a year here on loan
  11. He will be 24 next summer so no compensation for Leicester
  12. Leicester are wanting him to sign a new deal as they don't want to get nothing for him next summer. They believe he is worth what they are asking for, nobody will pay them that now but they believe after a season in the championship us or another club might . Leicester can easily say to Hurst we ain't letting you out on loan this season if you don't sign a new deal.He will get a pay rise and knows if he impresses here then his move turns full time.
  13. There will be a fixed fee Rev. The option will be in our favour up to us wether we take up the option or send him back. They can't change the terms of the option it will all be on paper and binding.
  14. The deal will be agreed Rev.If it's an option then Leicester can't change the terms of it mid season. It will be binding if this deal happens.
  15. Well no it won't be like Gallagher. We couldn't go back on that deal. If Hirst doesn't perform then we are under no obligation to keep him.We send him back. It's only if We are happy the deal becomes permanent
  16. How so?We only pay the £5 Million(,if that is the fee) if he is a success next season and we choose to do so. The club put a cash offer in that Leicester turned down .Surely the club are being clever here by trying him out before committing to such a fee
  17. We have signed 2 defenders this summer in Brittain and Hyam and spent cash on them something you said wouldn't be happening. If it's true we have the option then come summer if he is deserving of the figures suggested then we can choose to make the deal permanent nothing any other club can do about it. Maybe the reported £5 million Leicester are wanting is beyond us this summer with other positions in the squad needing filling. Any transfer you do is a gamble. If we were to sign a striker permanently rather than Hirst no guarantee that deal works out and no guarantee we wouldn't have to look for another striker next summer This deal is much better than a straight up loan
  18. A deal rising to £2.5 for Szmodic at least £1 million of that down payment,Brittain £1 million rising to £1.5, Dom Hyam £1.5-£2 million. One of the higher net spends in the championship this summer....Fact. With respect we needed the £5 million spent on Gallagher spent on other areas and same with Brererton, but the money was spent on an individual project player. Heard all this before ...."we won't pay a fee for a goalkeeper"...Kaminski signed. This summer "we won't pay a fee for a defender"....we did. Nobody on here can second guess what the owners will do.They do spend on the squad, sporadically and the taps get turned off but they have spent on the squad.
  19. The same way we afforded Sam Gallagher, Brererton and to a lesser extent Armstrong. Hirst fits the model of those 3...young striker with potential. We can't afford/want to gamble this season on Leicester's asking price, the option will be in our favour or no point in doing it.So if at season end we feel he is worth the fee written in the option then we pay it and make the deal permanent
  20. Well no we will have the option to buy for a fixed fee. That's what been discussed these last few pages so JHRover isn't dead right at all.
  21. Wonder who Mowbray will sign as their wide strikers
  22. Probably staying overnight before heading to that more ambitious club Derby in the morning like Hourihane
  23. Thursday 11pm Expecting Styles , Archer, Fry, Barkley , Bowler,Hirst ,a back up RB from a European club ,a sub goalkeeper, a midfield enforcer to get done . My source Alan Nixon reckons Broughton has pulled off a worldie aswell.A wee gem he described it.
  24. Yeah but it's our option is what I'm saying. We have the option to make it permanent,if he has a cracking season then we make the deal permanent for the price agreed, we don't fancy him we say no thanks and walk away. That is what I'm getting from Glen mullans and Callumrovers view of the deal anyway He fits the model , young with untapped potential...one probably led by Data I imagine. Not possible for us to pay the £5 million Leicester want this season and no other club is buying for that price now either
  25. Well not if Leicester are wanting £5 million to sell him on a permanent deal now? They may feel another loan and similar success in the championship as he had last season with Pompey would lead him to being a £5 million player It's certainly plausible for Rovers to have made a cash bid Lower than that figure and this deal has been worked out as a try before you buy
