Disagree. You need to pick one thread though Paul because you are dragging out your poorly thought out defence of Mowbray in two different ones at the minute. He got lucky yesterday. Or... He’s been unlucky in the previous six games and yesterday was what he is really all about. Despite the evidence.
-
Nope. He was wrong yesterday and you are wrong today. He wasn’t “warming up” when they scored as you keep imagining (of his own volition no less!). He was stood in his match kit with the coaches being given his instructions about to come on. When they scored he put a grey bib on over his kit and warmed up while Mowbray scratched his head a bit - after chucking his bottle on the pitch (that Evans retrieved after play continued). His subs before that... He was due to bring Graham on. This was almost certainly to withdraw Holtby who, in Mowbray’s eyes, still isn’t ready for the Championship. Gallagher was then injured - although allowed to try to hobble on for a few minutes, likely making it worse - so instead he made it like for like using Graham. Next minute he’s bringing off Holtby for Rothwell. Getting Holtby off was more of a priority than who came on. Even if I’m wrong with that assessment, these are still like for like changes in the 60-oddth minutes, not going out to win the game. His game plan after the hour mark was to set up to go for the point, despite it being an open game and Wednesday there for the taking. In the 80th minute it was time to shut up shop. How do I know this? Well, from the many times Mowbray has tried the same in the past. That’s when we aren’t already losing. Ironically, given the (sadly poorly observed) remembrance day tributes yesterday, some have already forgotten the oft quoted idiom from Churchill (1948): those who fail to learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. Without wishing any disrespect to the gravity of its meaning, that certainly applies to Mowbray and could well apply to many of our fans. Even in his post-match interview Mowbray was babbling on about how this wasn’t “his” team, it is “the players’ team” and they all need to battle “for their mates”. He knows himself that he can’t take the credit. You stick with Mowbray though. You can enjoy the odd 0-0 draw here and there against “the big boys of the division” (to paraphrase Mowbray) instead of what happened yesterday. It’s such a shame that Mowbray is going to be let off the hook again but it was only ever going to take one win for some folk.

Paul, I’d be astonished if you did agree with me. You are wrong though. When they scored neither were warming up. Evans was stood in full kit being prepped to come on. The decision had already made. The result turn on Buckley coming on. That’s simply a fact.
-
Doesn’t matter who Evans was coming on for. He is a defensive midfielder who was being brought on to protect a 0-0 and a point. I did enjoy the win but that had nothing to do with Mowbray. If he’d had his wish we wouldn’t have had that great finish and instead he would have been talking about a massive point against a top six side.
-
I was talking about Blackpool. Rob no longer works there as of last week.
-
In fairness... he had no choice. Let’s not pretend it was due to any prescience on Mowbray’s part. He was about to throw the towel in.
-
When?
-
Such a nice chap, our Steve. Is that why Rob Heys (ex Stanley) was let go?
-
Brilliant! ? If you are forced it’s no longer your decision. We really are fucked if that’s Mowbray at his best. Which sadly it is.
-
If it was a decision he made (to change the game positively) then he should be given credit but it wasn’t. He knew, despite how utterly untouchable he is, he couldn’t bring on Evans at 1-0 down at home.
-
Nope, he was stood next to Mowbray with his training gear gone being given instructions. Wednesday scored and he could not bring on his anchorman. Buckley was about the only attacking option left on the bench and Tony reached into the tombola for the last ticket in there.
-
Nope. Don’t fall for it. It was an absolute fluke on Mowbray’s part. You can thank Sheffield Wednesday’s goal for that one.
-
Imagine a family of four rocking up... “That'll be £118, Mr Bastard.” “No, no, I just wanted today’s game, not a season ticket!” ”What? You mean you haven’t been putting money away each week?” Former Family Club of the Year too... Our senior executives must surely be divided on policies like this.
-
So you are now back defending Mowbray’s set up. Only took one win. Or maybe just one winning goal.
-
-
We will see. Mowbray didn’t want to bring Buckley on today...
-
I saw players who were right behind each other.
-
Absolutely made up for Buckley. He and Adarabioyo are both buzzing on Twitter tonight. Part of a potential youthful side but both will be dropped as soon as is possible. Too young. Impact subs. Lack of fitness. Not ready. Don’t get the Mowbray way.
-
The important stat is Mowbray’s current unbeaten run: P1 W1 D0 L0 F2 A1. Plenty will point to that one.
-
Interesting you thought Holtby was anonymous. He remains one of our most forward thinking players. I’d have said Armstrong was the anonymous one but Mowbray’s favourite player still got another 90 minutes under his belt. The worst thing about today is that it will change nothing about Mowbray’s approach to our next games. Certainly when Barnsley rock up to Ewood we should actually take the game to them - will we? Even next weekend, we really should have nothing to fear going to Leeds. No pressure on us, league leaders Leeds expected to win so we should go looking to score rather than not to concede and see what happens.
-
Hopefully that’s a big three points that will help to keep us clear of relegation. It shows what a poor league it is when we can have a run of one win in seven and still be 16th. Just need to keep ourselves clear of the bottom pack and tread on for another season.
-
Anyone of a sensitive disposition should look away now... I’ll preface what I’m about to say by saying that Buckley’s goal was a fantastic moment, and the most I’ve celebrated at Ewood for a long time. That’s a massive 3 points that we really needed and I was genuinely delighted. But... sadly, it has probably just removed any hope of a managerial change until it is too late. If today’s result is to count for anything then Mowbray must be sacked. Tonight. With immediate effect. Or he should have the decency to walk. Today’s win was in spite of Mowbray and not because of him. When Sheffield Wednesday scored Mowbray was just about to bring on Corey Evans to protect a 0-0 scoreline and hopefully take a point. His petulant outburst - throwing the bottle on the pitch - shows he is still passionate, or under huge pressure, but his decision making shows he not up to the task at hand. As it was Murphy’s 83rd minute goal forced Mowbray’s hand. There was no way he could bring Evans on at that point. Painted into a corner he sent Evans to get changed and brought Buckley on instead. The young lad the game was crying out for and wouldn’t have been on the pitch if Mowbray had his way. We would all have been robbed of that - Buckley included. Almost released from the shackles of another depressingly negative substitution, the players responded and we got one of the best finishes to a match in the last two-and-a-half years. This team, this squad, this club, is capable of so much more and the current manager is now holding us back. “We’ve won stop being so negative/miserable/churlish” I hear you cry. But I’m even more resolute than ever that Mowbray’s instincts are now stopping this team from reaching its potential. The player huddle after the final whistle showed the spirit is there. I have always credited Mowbray with producing that. But in a division like the Championship we need more than that. We need bold decision making and to go out and get 3 points instead of settling for 1. Yes, it was a decent opposition side but we have lost to Luton and Charlton too and with an attacking ethos rather than negative one, our boys showed we can live with them. Thanks for everything, Tony. But that substitution debacle felt like a watershed moment for me, it’s time to go.

Two weeks too late!

Bennett back at left back. Sigh... The austerity of Mowbray: “It’s hurting but it’s not working”
-
He was hounded off the board when he was “Miseryman”!
