  1. Thorn In My Side - The Eurythmics I think I’ll stay here for a while, it’s much less tense than the football threads! 😁
  2. No it wasn’t - you answered exactly what I asked - I was just suggesting a possible explanation as to why we aren’t further down the table. I no longer attend so I can’t comment on whether we’ve improved or not - however the match threads certainly read very similar to last season.
  3. Re Brentford and Brighton: It’s easier to know what you might need if you already know what you’re doing. We used to be like that too…
  4. Do you think there’s been an improvement in identifying shortfalls within the squad? Not that it matters if you can’t get the deals across the line (or do the paperwork properly when you have done!)
  5. Excluding the top two - we’re one point behind a couple of teams you mentioned, and above the others. Doesn’t this suggest that a couple of astute signings may (not would) have been enough? I guess we’ll never know because O’Brien has almost certainly fallen through and we didn’t manage to sign a forward.
  6. Notwithstanding what he has to deal with, would you have expected to see any improvements yet (and have you seen any)?
  7. I think you can manage expectations regarding how likely promotion is without giving the impression that this season would be too soon to go up. Re: your behind the scenes comment, I expect you’re right regarding JDT, but I’m not sure those higher up the club agree (if they do they’ve a funny way of showing it!)
  8. I see what you’re saying but I see it more as: A* senior management (as per your examples) = well thought out and well implemented projects Our senior management = a poorly thought out and badly implemented project I say all this as someone whose not keen on the term being used - although I do think it’s better than being on a journey!
  9. If our ‘project’ was to get promoted as soon as possible I think more fans would put up with that term being used. I think it’s the idea that there’s such a thing as being promoted ‘too soon’ which is the major problem with ours. Why not try to go up ASAP, even if you think this means an immediate relegation would be almost guaranteed? - if this does happen, we’d (should) be in a position to launch a bid for a ‘more sustainable’ promotion. I’d say another problem (i didn’t say ‘the other’ because I’m sure there’s many more!) is what they say the project is bears no resemblance to their actions.
  10. The league is very close (excluding the top two) so a small improvement may well be all that’s necessary to finish in the play off places. Our problem is we’ve blown the opportunity to make these improvements through signings so we’re going to have to do so with the players we have. I’m not sure there’s much confidence that this will happen (this may be an understatement!) Oh, and I agree, I don’t see how we win the appeal.
  11. I don’t think it was the only reason either but 99 goals in the league doesn’t sound like they were crying out for him - or do you mean in regard to the Champions League?
  12. I wonder if part of the reason they bought him was to stop a rival from doing so
  13. Luton Town’s manager’s comments in build up to West Bromwich match (mid January) - compare and contrast: In front of a sold-out Kenilworth Road, the boss wants his players to maintain their levels and continue fighting ‘every day and every game’. “We have to be relentless in what we do,” Edwards said in his pre-match press conference. “We have to keep working hard, keep training really hard and keep doing the things that get us success and try and keep doing them better. It’s about being relentless now, that is what football is really, especially in the EFL. 46 games of really hard work and it can be a slog but if you’re successful, it can be really worth it.”
