  1. Eaten in the Butlers three times now and sorry to say that each time has been poorer than the time before. Last night the chips were pale and insipid suggesting that the oil was not hot enough for the second cooking, part of my meal was cold and the carrots and cauliflower which accompanied the steak and ale pie wouldn't have been out of place in a school canteen! Boiled and tasteless they were. It's so easy to improve veg that it is just plain stupid not too. Celebrating my daughters birthday, three of us ate and all three of us were disappointed. Just a comment..... The new owner unfortunately is rarely around and appears to spend more time at his other outlet the 'Yew Tree' near Chorley. I've got to say that sandwiched between the Clog and the O&O it's a very dangerous game that he is playing with his family's investment. btw.... This is also a charge that I have levelled often at the Clog and Billycock, they trade very well on the back of the name and reputation of Chef Nigel Haworth but he really needs to make more on-site appearences at his restaurants in order to raise the restaurants profile, keep staff on their toes and generally chat to their customers. Sometimes these celeb chefs are prone to get a little above themselves. Anson Bolton at the Millstone is an example to follow, he excels at leading from the front, he is very hands on, very profesional, customer friendly and almost always available. Essentially it's quite apparent that he cares most for his business.
  2. Correct. Much worse to be a West Indian cricket fan and see all the kids over there playing the American versions of rounders and netball. There really is no way back for them for a long time.
  3. So you wouldn't cross the road to watch the likes of Richards, Border, Sobers? Your myopia has developed to an insane level.
  4. A certain high level of irony in that statement if you don't mind me saying so. btw 'proper test batsman'? These are the finest players from two major cricketing nations not teams made up of the best players from the last century. I've no doubt their 'art' has been tainted by the demands of TV. Who knows with the emphasis on current limited over formats providing cricket for the masses and overall the amount of cricket played maybe Gooch might not have become the legend you make him out to be. Worse still the finest opening batsman in my time 'Sir' Geoffrey might have never got past Yorkshire 2nd XI!
  5. Especially as it hasn't rained yet.... the law of averages suggest that it's due to. btw all you lot who are saying it's a bowlers wicket must know the square root of sweet FA about cricket..... Jim mk2 reckons he's a cricketing genius and he insists both teams should easily pass 450 every innings.
  6. btw...... Why do you feel the need to include insults in every post you make?
  7. Quite right, I don't. I did enjoy playing cricket occasionally but never watching it. Life is just too short to watch test matches. Everytime I try to get interested I nod off. Unless the play is exceptional then 30 min highlights are about the most I can manage without doing so. Motor racing on TV has the same effect too.
  8. To paraphrase Joe Royle gumboots ....... Don't feed the goat.
  9. Who told you that the wicket is a a 450 one? Whatever if that is the case and if your opinion is valid then it's a draw before the match starts. So whats the point of it all?
  10. I think his signature tells us all we need to know about his character.
  11. I prefer this opinion to Michael Holding's. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01cph6y Perfick. I wonder why old Geoffrey never went for a career in the diplomatic corps?
  12. Most of em used to walk. Just like few footballers ever dived, feigned injury or brandished imaginary cards at the ref. Things don't necessarily change for the good do they?
  13. When we had Boycott nobody rated his ability did they?..... opposition bowlers excepted of course.
  14. Who can forget ..................... "The batsmans Holding, the bowlers Willey". and this is even funnier ..... commentating legend... http://cricketcrowd.com/displayvideo.php?ccvideo=2443
  15. Oh Kinell! Great tactic! Let me try it out...... Jim.... nothing personal but you are such a snidey and pompous pratt. Maybe ... but I bet the aussies would be delighted if we dropped him.
  16. 2 more? If a tough and feared opponent in a fight is on the floor don't back off and let him get back to his feet, just drive home your advantage and give him a good kicking. Shake hands afterwards by all means if you must. There is often a very thin dividing line between winning and losing.
  17. Sorry Tom I just can't understand that statement. Were you hoping that Austin bagged a hat trick against us at ewood? As it happens I know very little about cricket or cricketers but I remarked yesterday when I was on the golf course that if I was a betting man my money would be on the Aussies. We have been massively overhyped by the opress and media imo and the Australians have that 'cornered rat' air about them.
  18. Not of me n' the Honey Monster holding hands across a rose petal strewn table I trust?
  19. Thanks for the tip off. I was thinking of going with a mate.......but I don't think I'll bother now.
  20. Those "Elephants ears" have been legendary in the Khyber Cafe for decades. They don't hang them up though. Prob a very good idea cos their isn't much room left on a table once those things are on a plate in the middle.
  21. You deserve credit for even finding it Abbs.
  22. It's quality as many have said on here. BUT why did you go if you didn't expect it to be very good? Especially so given the choice in and around this area?
  23. I wonder if our home cooking expert Sparky Marky employs the same line of thought over drinking? Supermarket tinnies and wines are cheap as chips whilst pub prices can be horrific, but what sort of a Billy No-Mates wants to be drinking every night home alone?
