Ferguson, Wenger, Mourinho, Curbishley, Allardyce. If Villa have another good season I'd add O'Leary to the list. by. All of whom would of course walk miles over broken glass to come and work for the Rovers? Maybe it not just Tris that posts when pisssed up eh Scotty? I think no one on here thinks that Souey is perfect but time and again the GS detractors are asked to propose a replacement and time and again they come up with nowt remotely feasible! They put rubbers on the end of pencils because everybody makes mistakes sometime. Anybody on here who has never dropped a bollock at work is a liar, football managers are just more in the public eye. As for him making transfer mistakes.......... which manager does'nt? The only one that I can think of with the best record in that direction is Curbishley and thats cause he never has had owt much to spend. Ferguson has bought plenty of costly duck eggs and so has Wenger, Allardyce and O'Leary whilst Mourinho is too new in the job to judge. As for 2 Robsons, Maclaren, Reid and bloody Houllier ffs.....Jeez! If BRFC are in the bottom 3 by Nov then maybe its time to change but at the moment we need to show more optimism. The game ebbs and flows all the time. I hope that last year was the deepest slump that we see for some time but nobody can count on that. Football is changing fast, the finances are going out of kilter. Now that transfers have finally been consigned to the history books by all but a few mega rich clubs there is little money in circulation to spend on basic 'housekeeping' eg developing grounds, facilities and youth development. All ours and Murdochs dosh is being invested in the stock market for the ridiculously out-of-touch-with-the-real-world players! We are a poor club at this level and we are struggling for support and that is hardly helped by such widespread pessimism. Jeez the fact that we lost lots of home games but survived in the top division would have been viewed with incredulity 15 years ago! I'd have given my right arm for on season at the top after the Palace play off never mind a decade and a half! Like it or not we are punching well above our weight in the world of football so ffs sake lets all get real! Too many contributers to this board are simply taking this period in our history too much for granted! Just stop and think about it will you all and please concentrate on generating some enthusiasm in and around the town! Otherwise as in all things in this life we will inevitably and simply end up with what we deserve.

Easy Tris. Dont put the lad off posting on here. It's likely that 92 is his date of birth. You've enough on your plate sparring with seasoned anti Souness campaigners like waggy, Rev and magoo.
-
And you would know would you ?? Went down GoldStratford every training session watching him did you ? easy with that great gift of 'hind-sight' though isn't it No one could have known what Yorke would be like, all that was known was that he was out of favour with the RFW... not WHY he was out of favour. You'll just have to let time prove me right trueblue. And it will. The reason that I was not jumping through hoops when we signed him is the same reason that I would not be doing the same should GS sign Robbie Fowler......and no, I dont feel the need to go and watch him train to know that he's past his sell by date either.
-
Maybe he should, but you could hardly blame him if he didn't bearing in mind Souness has already had his go and branded him a "baby". Rev........imo most people agreed with him. Maybe man management is not Soueys forte but the accuracy of his judgement about these 3 and his honesty in coming out with it cannot be questioned. My only prob with GS is that whilst we had to buy Cole or face the drop he was bloody blind not to see that Yorkes days as a professional footballer had already passed when he was at Man Utd. For Yorkes type once gone there is no return.
-
surely she doesn't look that bad we all have different tastes, I'm sure she's lovely Now now Chris stop twisting my words. You know what I really mean.
-
A rare contribution Paul. You just here to stir things up ? No opinoins on the comings and goings that are shaping the future of our club ? No ?? So why break the silence just to try and cause a row ? Afraid its just his way Tris. He appears to have a grudge against me. I think its something to do with him once mistakingly thinking that I was guilty of making some sort of ungentlemanly overtures to his missus! So maybe after all this time allow me to take this opportunity to clear this up and assure all members, mods, admin and most importantly macca himself by categorically stating that I view most active members on here as kindred spirits and that I can assure him that no offence was ever intended........In fact I can confirm to all that I'd rather suck worms than do anything at all and in any way improper with Mrs Macca. There will that public apology suffice Paul? Can we be friends now?
-
samtheozzy...... I'm with Joey big nose here. Jesus I know that you are having a laugh but I'm not really sure that's in good taste. Is there any need to say anything like that that might upset some poor innocent mad cows? Is there really?

[Archived] Paul Dickov Signs - Good Deal Or Not ?
thenodrog replied to Baz's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Good grief! We've just got rid of one sulky, chip-on-the-shoulder git with an over inflated ego, with two more in Todd and Yorke lined up to be potted the same way and you want to bring in 3 ready made replacements! -
Thats stupid...... but as far as his and the clubs experiences with Cole and Yorke are concerned anyone could well be forgiven for forming that opinion! Those two have certainly never done much in their time here to dispel or disprove such an opinion have they? Playing together they were always so close that they could hold hands, running wide or running down the channels seemed so often to be beneath them. Just shows how ridiculous the remunerations in football have become when Cole refuses to work with a boss who is paying him £55000 per week ffs!
-
Incorrect English. The correct phraseology in this instance should have been "is GS colour prejudiced?"
-
Woe Woe and thrice Woe! Cole........Grabbi........Davies.......... Final and unequivocal proof if any were needed that transfer fees are history. RIP transfers. We will never see their like again. Shame really cos the end of football as we know it is nigh. All the big money is being given to the players in wages with none going to the clubs.......it's a surety that the infrastructure of present day football is unsustainable. The money is quite simply being siphoned away by players and their agents to be reinvested in God knows what. There will be no money to develop grounds, improve facilities for spectators (who gives a flying one for them anyway?), develop young players, employ ex-players for the same purpose etc etc. Quite simply football is about to be sacrificed on the alter of greed of its own making. Like a fire the more you chuck on it the faster it consumes it thereby speeding up its own demise. It's not the beginning of the end....that was down to George Eastham, Johnny Bosman, ITV digital etc...........this is the end of the beginning of the end. BTW this jinxed figure of BRFC and 7 million pound transfers...........does it not make you kinda nervous about Ferguson.
-
The best deal would have been to insist that whilst they can have Cole for nowt they have to take Yorke as well. btw wonder where that numbnuts Jezzard is? He's gone mighty quiet since the dodgy grocer pulled the purse strings shut.
-
That reminds me........... Where's Big Ron when he's needed for a valid opinion?
-
Rat faced whinger I'd wager? Which reminds me apparently Nicky Butt is the latest to fall victim to Fergies axe
-
Not just as simple as that waggy. Get this Flopsy......."The reansons why he was banned - i knew nothing of it btw was due to continually being abusive and breaking the board rules, as has been pointed out he has been given a number of warnings and the time was felt that it had gone on long enough. Some past trangressions - Foul and abusive language - Concerted abuse towards other members of this board - plus when told off, no attempt at an appolgy - continuous racist comments and remarks" SteB......."Or the now edited by gordons comments in the Duff and Dunn threads, advocating violence against Dunny, various transgressions with language" Paul........"I'll add to the list: Offering to visit a member's house whilst the member was out to "service" his wife. Constantly attempting to undermine every action by admin/mods by picking at every decision or post made by us. Refusing to discuss these matters via the PM and conducting very public rows whenever possible. Harrassing members of admin/mods to the point where some felt it necessary to take time away from the MB." Public enemy No 1 eh waggy? But I don't think holding right wing views (which I dont particularly think that I hold anyway) was ever mentioned with the rest of those aforementioned trumped up charges. ps .......I do admit to advocating running Dunny over and breaking his legs, that wasn't 'trumped up' but only for the insurance money mind. Anyway returning to topic that reminds me just what are we going to do with Yorke and Cole?
-
Surely in most business contracts it would and in many cases a penalty clause would have been included at the outset and triggered whereby BRFC could sue Cole for damages incurred by his breaching of contract.
-
You actually beleive this??? So now you're telling me that you have never heard of the term 'player power'?
-
So waggy after all the success of the past 14 years (which you neither could nor would never ever have anticipated or even thought possible in the dark dismal years following the abolishment of the max wage), and including the slightly less successful Souness years..... and for a town club like BRFC that is indeed what it has been....... you now want rid of the manager, the centre forward, the chief executive and the chairman! Have I missed the tea lady? Who would you wish to replace them with ffs? Unless it's you and your mate with the endless list of free advice that JW somehow consistently and irrationally contrives to ignore? waggy I know this is a mboard and everybody has the right to you their opinion but you really do deserve to be a Burnley fan
-
Balanced?!? You're having a laugh! There's not a tackle between any of em!
-
That's about the most accurate statement I have seen on the Cole issue. It seemed like for a season and three quarters everyone wants shut of Mr Offside, hands on hips, won't chase, can't hit a barn door Cole, then he has a couple of games where he breaks a sweat and people think he's great. If he goes great, if he stays not as great. For the Souness out bandwagon, does the report not say a decision was made at a board meeting, Here's yet another for the 'Souness Out' bandwagon........... Was Cole's end of season flourish (that has clearly hoodwinked so many members on here) not come after Souness had torn such a large strip off him? Was it good pschology or a fluke? One comparison that I find particularly interesting is the number of people on here that came out in criticism of Kidd for being too soft yet have now done u-turns by accusing Souness of being too abrasive. Personally and after thinking more about it (I admit that I too my have been influenced by Coles 11th hour performances and his last-man-off-the-pitch stuff after the last game) I think a sulking Cole in the final year of his contract and with some sort of loyalty bonus would simply have been happy to take his 55K per week for as little a return as possible. In fact his need for revenge could even have resulted in him deliberately under performing and scheming in order to 'get even' with Souness. Pot him OK but we need a replacement of real quality. All our other guys as yet are merely 2nd strikers imo.
-
To be honest, my answer to that now wouldn't be as black and white as it would've been 12 months ago. Nice one T4E!
-
Paul.....Who taught Cole and even more relevently who taught Shearer? No one that I can rem, coud it be that top strikers are born and not made? Surely we dont need to pay 55g per week for a teacher. (btw isn't that Saunders job anyway?) Cole has been a surely git severely in need of right slap on more than one occasion but he can be top drawer when he wants to be.......some, myself included would opine not often enough mind. Personally I'm not bothered to see the back of him and his idle mate Yorke BUT not at the price of relegation! Christ with the money that those two have been on we could almost afford Henry! (not relevent but for 55g per week I would trim the piggin Ayatollah's toenails daily with my teeth!) Sutton? Maybe but please God, please dont make my sneaking suspicion come true please dont let Souey sign Robbie Fowler!

Parasyte this is from page one of this thread............... "For something to be elitist - it would suggest that we were pricing people out of the market. This would not be the case if people paid £2 per month on a direct debit. I can't believe that anyone using this site can't afford to forsake 1 pint to keep it going. Like Tris says - you really notice when the site goes down. Lets not just debate this for the next month - if you like the site, then set up your debit for £1 or £2 a month. That's all it takes." .........I have not seen a suggestion anywhere which is asking members to stump up £5 per month, so I hope that you'll have a rethink and come forward with some sort of contribution. Passing free time is often referred to as a leisure activity and paying for that is quite normal. Going to Ewood, the cinema, bowling, fishing, partaking in sport of any kind, going to the pub / restaurant / for a drive etc etc even reading all cost money so why differentiate in this instance? You surely aren't intentionally trying to live up to your board name...... are you? -
Thank you for your courteous and reasoned reply Paul. For a time this thread had degenerated to the level of the Mr Men childrens tv programme. BTW Anybody care to suggest the full names for Mr C and Mr B? PS the first one is easy!
-
Paul lets not get on about worldwide atrocities or whatever. My point was that there would have been many merseysiders in the years following WW2 that would never ever have bought a German car or product because they had witnessed the loss of many of their family /freinds etc, BUT there are plenty of German cars there now.......obviously bought by people who were not alive during the war. Time will heal most wounds if it is allowed to, but this constant regurgitating of the campaign against some second rate rag that got it's editing wrong big style is imo doing no good whatsoever. Btw your comparison is somewhat different to the facts. Hilsborough was the result of mistakes / negligence / irresponsibility / complacency / touts or whatever mainly by ordinary blokes. It was hardly premeditated murder was it?.
