Even if RN was offered £8k p.w. the £1.5m fee we're allegedly paying for Brittain would more or cover RN's wages for 4 seasons! Irrespective of the footballing abilities of the respective players the situation makes zero financial sense. Hope Brittain signs and proves to be good enough to go some way towards justifying the financial hit. As far as Nyambe is concerned, for me he's been our most consistent performer overall over the last few seasons and I think he's been treated disgracefully by the Club. Can't help but wish him all the best in his future career and for something rather better than Wigan in due course.

Seems far more likely he's signed a one year deal on slightly higher wages than the paltry terms offered here in the hope of possibly moving on again in 12 months. Risky strategy from his point of view. Might work spectacularly well or might blow up in his face if for example he picks up a bad injury. Not sure why Nyambe is getting pelters for leaving and Lenihan isn't, even though Lenihan turned down far more.

Chris Price would cost a fortune in today's market. Personally I prefer defenders who can defend first and foremost, if they can contribute going forward that's a bonus. This notion that every full back can play like Trent Alexander Arnold is a bit of a myth imo, there's only a very select few at the very top of the game who are exceptional going forward and adequate defensively. Edit: Anyhow, spilt milk to an extent, let's hope we get Brittain in, let's hope he's a lot better than Zeefuick was who many people confidently predicted was also better than RN and let's hope we can get the other three top signings and four or five decent loans in we need. Why does being "an academy lad" make him any less worthy than aomeone who didn't come through the academy?. That sort of attitude is the crux of the problem with Nyambe imo. Seems to have been an assumption that because he was on a shit wage having coming through the Academy he was therefore only worth a relatively modest amount for his new deal whereas Lenihan was offered far more. Think we need to have an urgent rethink on the wage structure for Academy Graduates and concentrate on their actual value to their team rather than what they're currently on otherwise this will happen again and again.

OK thanks. Personally I'd far rather have kept Nyambe but given he has gone, RB is now the biggest of a number of big holes in the squad so anyone coming in would be welcome. Given our track record in these things, I'll keep the champagne on ice until it's confirmed though. One positive, if the fee is £1.5m that would tend to be indicative of a decent budget having been made available given the number of positions that need filling.

You obviously don't rate Nyambe but are trying to use the fact that Boro are linked with Gallagher as proof he's a good-un because Wilder knows what he's doing etc etc. (The last bit I agree with so I'd be gob smacked if their alleged interest in Gallagher was serious)

They were interested in Nyambe as well weren't they? Who you seemingly don't rate so that rather defeats your argument. As for Gallagher, £3m and I'd drive him up there myself. And pay for the fuel. Even at £2 per litre.

The supporters need to up the ante now and make it plain that muddling along on easy street is no longer acceptable and that the free ride aboard the Venky's gravy train without producing results has to stop. In the immediate term Waggott and Pasha need to give the new manager a chance and Broughton needs to pull his finger out of his backside and do what he was brought in to do.

Where does the myth that prices drop towards the end of a window come from? Mowbray used to trot this lame old excuse out every window to make the lack of activity seem normal. I'd have thought exactly the opposite was true, by the last minute selling Clubs know you're absolutely desperate and have you over a barrel. I.e. like when we hadn't signed anyone of note in the first season back in the Championship then with 2 days to spare started throwing telephone numbers about at Forest for BBD and at QPR for Freeman.

The equivalent of that this season would be Gallagher scoring 30. I wouldn't say we had lost four such key performers at this stage a year ago either. Maybe lightning will strike twice but as things stand I'd treat it as exceptionally unlikely. The one variable in the equation is that at least it isn't Mowbray so that gives room for a good old dollop of blind optimism I suppose regardless of the recruitment situation, or rather lack thereof.

I was really counting the players who were actually in and around the first team last season not the lads out on loan who were no where near it. But fair comment if you want to look at it that way.

Not sure why the usual suspects, and some who should no better, are gloating about the possibility of Nyambe ending up at Wigan. If it happens, it will probably be a bit of a disappointment for the player. However the fact would remain that if it happens Wigan would have a bloody good full back on their hands at Championship level. We have no-one! This 'Nothing to be worried about" approach from some posters is getting somewhat grating now. It's almost like they are revelling in the Club's misfortune and our angst. Absolute rubbish. If you were Nyambe would you sign a deal knowing that Lenihan (who is certainly no more vital to the side than yourself) was being offered 2-3 times as much?

He has a number of proud achievements on his Rovers CV. - Probably the first (and last) CEO in the history of the game to raise prices in advance of a season where no- one could attend due to the pandemic. - Removed affordable seating at Ewood. - Introduced the "Waggott tax" to discourage last minute sales on matchday. - Tried to introduce a matchday charge for Blues Bar for ST holders and had to back down. - Tried to sneak through a sale of the training ground on the false premise that Cat 1 Academy Status could be retained on a vastly reduced site. Forced into an embarrassing climbdown no doubt costing the Club a fortune in the process. - Promised a brand new pitch then failed to deliver. - Has overseen the deterioration of the stadium into a particularly shoddy state. - We've lost nine players from the squad as it was at the end of January with not one single addition coming in the other way with eleven days to go before the start of the new campaign. It's the polar opposite of "What have the Romans ever done for us really isn't it?"

Problem is, you don't get players of that quality for next to nothing. Unless you get lucky on loan but then you still have to pay a hefty loan fee and are left back at square one at the start of the following season unless again you're promoted.

We don't need pointless interviews from Broughton, I'm not interested in knowing what his inside leg measurent is. We do however need results from him in the form of some inspired recruitment. Which obviously hasn't happened yet.
