  1. Only going off some posters I saw in Blackpool. Hope you all enjoyed it though, weather appears to have held up for you.
  2. http://www.blackpool-illuminations.net/Ride-the-Lights.html Illuminations closed to road traffic tomorrow night from 7-10pm. Sounds like a brilliant idea to me. They are doing a trial run this year before the officially open, but if popular this could become a annual event.
  3. I think they have, but more importantly I think in the world championships they had 8 members not 5, that would really have helped, as would some effort by some of the other teams too. In the end it was 32 in the breakaway vs 4 for GB pushing the peloton along. If a GB mistake was made, it was allowing so many riders to jump clear on the final assent. Paul is right maybe allowing Froome to go across the gap may have changed things, but hindsight is a wonderful thing, and they stuck to the plan that has won them the TDF and the world champs.
  4. Feel really sorry for the GB guys. the lack of effort from the other teams in the peloton, plus the mistake of allowing the group to attack and break away on the last circuit of Box Hill has really cost them. Great win for the Kazaks. Awful coverage on TV, who decided to cut away from the leaders with 400m to go?
  5. Can't beleive there's only occasional time checks. The crash happened 5 mins ago, and still no time check. 10km left and still 1min back, GB are out of it.
  6. That breakaway group looks too far ahead to me, 30+ of them, and only GB working in the peloton. 1min looks a long way away.
  7. Decent interview and race background in this link... http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2012/jul/27/mark-cavendish-team-gb-london-2012?CMP=twt_gu
  8. Has Wiggins not publicly said its a team gold and the aim is for Cavendish to win? That's has to be the best chance for GB. If it was an individual time trial, then I'd back Wiggins. I'd wager though that at least one of the other teams will attempt a long range breakaway to try to take the sprint finish out.
  9. Went yesterday to see it, thought it was very good. Also saw trailers for Expendables2, Total Recall (remake), Superman (remake) and New Bourne film. What's with all the remakes at the moment?
  10. Brilliant win by Wiggins and Cavendish proved once again he's the best sprinter by a mile at the moment, and this time from a long way out too. Just hope they have something in reserve for the Olympics now.
  11. Well last day in the pyranees tomorrow and Wiggins still 2mins clear from his own teammate. Just watched the highlights and it looked ever so easy for him and Froome. Finish on Sunday, and barring Wiggins failing big time tomorrow, or an amazing breakaway from anyone in the top 5, he's very very close to the win. What a boost for the nation going into the Olympics it would be too.
  12. Life and soul of the party again Theno?
  13. The last one is clearly on a motorbike, that's cheating plain and simple. Great shots Tris. Next two days are the key Alpine stages (or so it says on the news), with Thursday being the toughest (only 13km of flat racing). If Wiggins can increase his 1m53s lead over these two days, theres really only a couple of days in the Pyrenees left of the key stages, so barring major losses in breakaways he'd be in pole position for the 1st British win.
  14. Really? Personally I think it's a great idea, and would thank Dawn and Steve for their hard work on organising this. It's a real shame to lose traditions, no matter how silly they are. I presume all pubs in Brig will be shut this weekend just in case someone gets drunk?
  15. Well, I'm suprised there's no mention of Le Tour on here. Eccleston own Bradley Wiggins is storming ahead at the moment too. I love to watch the mountain stages especially those through the Alps as they generally decide the race winner and also feature some beautiful scenery too.
  16. Everyone enjoying the drought? Main road through Buckshaw closed due to Roundabout mutation into pond. People still driving past the cones and road flooded signs. 3 got stuck so far, it's about 3 feet deep. Heard similar issues on A666 in Darwen too.
  17. My old boss owns that place. Do me a favour and never go again. I'm not a spiteful person at all, but I (and several hundred of his ex-employees) would love to see him lose a lot of money in that place.
  18. Watched Killer Elite last night, featuring Jason Staham and Bobby DeNiro (never thought I'd see those two in the same film). Overall the film was ok, better than I expected. It's based on a book by Sir Ranulph Fienes. The plot is that in the early 80's British SAS troops Were in action in Oman (secretly), and killed 3 of 4 sons of an Omani head honcho. The plot is for Statham to kill the killers. Not an intellectual feast, but a decent action movie.
  19. Can we not split the TV stuff into another thread?
  20. Watch "Tinker, Tailo, Soldier, Spy" last night, was excellent. An adaption of the LeCarre novel from the 70's, it tells the story of the hunt for a mole at the top of the British intelligence service. It's dramatic, tense, and intelligent, just giving you enough information o keep you hooked. I've read the book (and have the other two of the trilogy to read), so it was interesting to compare the two. The book is fantastic too, and well worth reading if you enjoyed the film. Also watched Animal House recently too, the story of a young Aussie guy whose mother dies an is taken in by his aunt. That section of the family are hardened criminals, and the interaction between both sides is very good, again not a blockbuster, but well worth a watch. The Way, with Martin Sheen, Emilio Estevez, (surprisingly) James Nesbitt and others is a story of a father who's son sets off on The Way, el Camino, a ancient pilgrimage route across the north of Spain. It's gentle paced, interesting, shows a lot of great scenery and has a decent plot. Again well worth a watch.
  21. Anyone used taste-card? http://www.tastecard.co.uk/ The have a 2 month free trial at the moment giving 2 for 1 deals at some places.
  22. Agreed on the solicitor / creditor front Gav, but the IVA specialists are much better salesmen than solicitors. I'd recommend your local Citizens Advice Bureau for those with debt problems, or any such free organisations.
  23. If they had really sat down and looked at his IVA proposal and fought it on the terms they are now complaining about, they would probably have got much more of their money back. They will get nothing for running an anti Hendry website, that's just bitterness. They say they have been told to pay the legal fees to take it back and get better terms on their settlement, so they should. I'm not saying what happened was right or fair, but there are aspects of that website that don't sit right with me, they are definitely playing the victim for the sympathy vote in this. I'd struggle to believe they were as naive as they make out in this. For example, would you lend someone your pension fund?, would you lend money to a multimillionaire? I doubt they have nothing to their names if they lived next door to the Hendrys, in affluent Lytham, or if they can afford to live outside the UK in the winter. I'm not saying they shouldn't be angry, I just think there is two sides to this, neither probably very pleasant.
