  1. If Tugay was last man (debatable), then according to the rules of the game - deliberate or not (except for cases of handball), the referee has no option but to give a red card. from: http://www.thefa.com/TheFA/RulesAndRegulat...02/05/12117.htm Sending-Off Offences A player, substitute or substituted player is sent off and shown the red card if he commits any of the following seven offences: 1. is guilty of serious foul play 2. is guilty of violent conduct 3. spits at an opponent or any other person 4. denies the opposing team a goal or an obvious goalscoring opportunity by deliberately handling the ball (this does not apply to a goalkeeper within his own penalty area) 5. denies an obvious goalscoring opportunity to an opponent moving towards the player’s goal by an offence punishable by a free kick or a penalty kick 6. uses offensive or insulting or abusive language and/or gestures 7. receives a second caution in the same match
  2. This is a link to a 24 hour sports bar within 5 mins walk of the train station http://www.hotel-theglobe.nl/
  3. Tickets Arrived today Just found this link: http://www.europeanbeerguide.net/amsintr.htm Where is everyone planning meeting up in Amsterdam before getting the train through to Rotterdam? More importantly where are we going after we get back?
  4. Group Standings: http://www.uefa.com/Competitions/UEFACup/S...Group=2703.html I cant see how we can fail to finish below 3rd place!
  5. The most consistent scorers at free kicks and corners are those players who set off from further out and make a late run towards the goal - the impetus gives them power and the ability to out-jump those around them, and by making a late run they cannot be marked easily - and if they are dragged to the floor there is more chance of refs seeing it. Our attackers at corners walk to the penalty spot, stop then don't move when the corner is taken. Invariably enough MGP puts it straight into the keepers arms or hits the first player anyway. Also, Lucas should be great at attacking corners - yet always seems to be covering at the back whilst someone like Kishy - not the greatest header or huge physical presence of the ball goes forward. I'd like to see Bert Mk2 take a few out-swinging corners from the left hand side personally. As for the defending of corners - It would be nice just to see one of our players attack the ball rather than just trying to stop the other side making runs.
  6. West Ham and Charlton are well known for having long-serving managers though. I cant see anything dramatic happening there at the moment (watch how this will come back to haunt me). However Fat Freddy and his mob are more fickle about these matters and I can see them being the most unhappy at the moment, especially given the awful performances I've watched.
  7. Now in stock at Play - mine was posted yesterday !!!!
  8. Anyone know how to transfer a player and kit update on the 360? - I used a max drive on my ps2
  9. Will it lead to more revenue for the club though AESF? Its hard to work out - but at least the club are being pro-active about these things and giving it a trial - they are backing us, Rovers supporters, to make this work. Theres no-one more keen than me to see Ewood full of Rovers fans, and I hope the Rovers fans come out in force , fill our ground, and create a great atmosphere, which helps lead to further progression in the Prem, UEFA and other cup ties - therefore helping the revenue streams. Ultimately though, if the club loses revenue by reducing prices on all cup and premier league games it could put us at more of a financial disadvantage to other prem clubs.....and which way would that be more likely to send us?
  10. Fantastic News, a great initiative from the club. If we can get a near-full house for both home games and win them both it puts us through to the more lucrative rounds later in the competition! Cant see how Rovers could have done any better on this
  11. This looks like the info we need: http://www.ns.nl/servlet/Satellite?cid=107...eEnglish&c=Page
  12. Well I was in the top tier which was nearly full. A great night !!!! Drove down from Sunderland to get to the game and arrived with about 5 mins to kick off. Remember a few comments from the trotters, strangely I dont think they like us much
  13. Link to Youtube lowlights: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtM5LrqlWG8 Just watched the penalty decision again Cant decide wether it was given for Colin Hendrys hard but ball winning challenge outside the area or The Cristiano Ronaldo Comedy Dive by the Palace no 7 after running falling forward into Mark Atkins "push"
  14. Im pretty much sure the clubs owners, the Jersey Trust would love to find the right buyer for Rovers. Someone who could drive the club forwards and spend a lot of money. Trouble is from an investors point of view, Rovers are well down the list of Prem teams waiting for this.... ..Lack of support both in current and potential fanbase, being away from the major cities where the investors are more likely to want to travel too, unfashionable club...
  15. Got the song sorted: To the tune of Monster by The Automatic "whos that scoring a goal?, its Shabani Nonda, its Shabani Nonda-aa" "whos that scoring a goal?, its Shabani Nonda, its Shabani Nonda-aa" repeat ad-naseum
  16. Good Review Scotty Thought it was a pen on terry, but also on Roberts too. Foul leading to 1st goal was a joke though. Emo did well today at RB but will reserve judgement until he plays a winger. Ooijer had one of the most disapointing debuts for a long time but must give him time to bed in. Cannot afford to have 2 wingers with so little pace as we had today - Bentley had decent game but offers less goals then MGP....one needs to go from 1st team imo. Hope we can bring in someone to cover Tugay, Savage and the obviously carrying injury Reid before end of month.......
  17. Rovers 2 - Chelski 2 Reid Roberts 21K Attendance
  18. 2 - 0 to the Rovers - revenge for last season (McCarthy, Kuqi) Although with Mr Rennie refereeing anything could happen !
  19. It doesnt matter anyway - its not in any of the "big clubs" interests to make a change - they are due to their financial positions able to fend off the "smaller" clubs in many different ways. Why would they want to share revenue? To protect themselves they can already offer much bigger wages than others. They can afford to buy smaller clubs best players and keep them as squad players. Through the G14 they influence seedings of european cup competitions so that they only get to play lesser teams - essentially taking all competition out until the later stages once revenue is guaranteed - Arsenal, Man U and Liverpool all have much higher "champions" "league" (both terms in speachmarks, as neither is true) rankings than Chelsea for example, how can that be fair for Chelsea (no matter how much I despise them) so that they will always draw harder games than the others despite being the champions of England for 2 seasons and many points above the others?? The cases in Italy show how deep some the intent of these clubs are to keep their revenue stream intact, as an ex ref said - if you make a bad mistake against one of the "big" clubs, you dont get big games to referee that season, yet when the mistake is in favour of "big" clubs those mistakes seem to matter less. The intent of the "big clubs" is now to make sure they are so far ahead of those below that they will never be caught - no longer a sport - more a business. Yes hard salary caps would be great to some extent but to be brutally honest out of ALL the prem clubs, very few would want to swap - many see Premier League survival as success in relation to their last 20-30 years achievements..... The only way anything will change is if the "big clubs" start seeing their revenue declining Overall, though with the new season approaching do I think the premiership is boring? No, predictable in a lot of ways, but not boring

  21. If only we could filter out the other 298 pages of rubbish we'd be fine Seriously though, I have big reservations about Jeffers. Albeit the club has done well to mention he is on a highly incentivised contract, I thought we maybe could have got him on a 12 month deal with the option of a further 2 years rather than 2 years to start. Roberts though is a good signing imo. Watched him in both games against us and ont' telly and seems OK, pretty quick and a handfull (maybe the physical presence that MH, JW and Tom Finn had spoken about). Also, bit of a steal £'s wise as in last 12 months of contract and saying he wasnt signing another. We just need to follow today up with another first-team striker - Mido, McCarthy or Baros would all be OK but not sensational. Overall though what we need to do is to improve on the forwardline from last season. Bellamy was outstanding and we are unlikely to find a player to replace him, but what we can do is improve overall. Dickov, Kuqi and even FSP hardly feature when it comes to playing football or involving other players, but if Roberts, A.N.Other and Kuqi can score more, and help others score more (e.g. holding the ball up for midfield to get forward) then maybe we can improve on last season. I know Kuqi scored 8 goals last season, but to be honest how many could a decent centre forward have scored with the service provided by Bellamy, MGP, Reid, Tugay and the rest? My guess would be at least double.
