  1. To be fair, if we didn't have the 4 loanees, we would struggle to name a full squad in the next game. Magloire is nowhere near good enough and should have been let go permanently, we have been caught short in defence in recent years numerous times so we did need a centre back, especially with Ayala made of glass and Wharton not back anytime soon. If anything, that is good use of the loan market potentially. I do have a frustration over loaning both Khadra and Poveda. I have reservations about Dolan and like one or two others, too much reliance on him would be counter productive because at this stage, I feel like he is not up to the standard required. Dolan would not make the match day squad of a Premier League club, and not everything is about long term. Buckley was really good on the opening day and has been really ineffective since, if the choice is solely rely on Buckley or bring in another player to compete with him, it has to be the latter, although at that point you are just bringing in loanees to make the numbers up based on budgetary reasons which never bodes well. I would agree that we haven't been pro-active enough in loaning out our own prospects. Ones like Butterworth will be needed on the fringes due to our inability to bring forwards in, but ones like McBride, Cirino, Pike, Garrett, Vale etc seem miles off and won't play either way. Too much of it is unknown potential and assumptions at this stage for me personally not to consider it as a rather poor squad. I don't doubt that we have had some terrible squads over the years. You talk about the team that Gallagher scored goals in, that side had far more going forward than this current one does, notably with Graham and also Conway who was having some what of an Indian summer, as well as Emnes who even as a very frustrating player had more of a track record than Poveda/Khadra/Butterworth, and then we had Joao and Marshall for half a season each. We also had some experience in there. I agree that our defence is the strongest point at the moment, the key part of it is a second away from an injury and even with the 2 at the back heading everything away, we have yet to keep a clean sheet. Would you say that any of our players are worth 5m or over?
  2. If the benchmark for our transfer business is wasteful expensive "splurges" then we aren't going to get very far. Although to be fair, there is nowhere near enough evidence in a summer otherwise littered with loans again due to budget restraints that the above policy is indeed in place. Again, a 33 year old on 40kpw simply isnt going to happen. The transfer policy shouldn't be so inflexible either, otherwise any remaining experience within the squad would just be stripped away. I think the current squad is right up there with the very poorest that we have had in recent memory. What players within it warrant excitement or would likely have teams waiting to take them off our hands? I think the quality is sorely lacking.
  3. Obviously the answer is a firm no, but seeing our squad laid out like that shows how weak and threadbare we look, especially in attack. Out of those attacking 6, Poveda on Saturday is the only time that any of 3 of them has made a senior start. Even beyond that, Dolan looks miles away from being a regular Championship player, and Brereton and Gallagher are average. Would there be a case to suggest that our current attack is as weak as it has been in recent memory?
  4. Horrendous window, leaving us with a squad that very much will have to dig deep to stay in the division. Venkys out.
  5. No good being strong and pacey if you have no end product. Plus its not about whose fault it is, he isnt what we need.
  6. A midfielder with 3 career goals?
  7. I don't think that there are enough goals between Gallagher, Brereton, Poveda, Khadra and Dolan to avoid a serious scrap at the bottom. Not many attacks in the league as poor as that.
  8. Doesn't seem like we will at all.
  9. https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/19547473.live-blackburn-rovers-transfer-deadline-day-updates/?123 Rovers' search for another attacking player looks set to go down to the wire. 2.5 hours to go and doesn't appear as though anything is imminent so we could well be in for late on. If there is to be one more bit of business, then it's looking like the eggs are in the attacker basket.
  10. Where is this from? Lots of random rumours at the moment without a source. Would be a strange one, not a position we need.
  11. 100% will be a loan. Badly advised Venkys will keep the money in their pockets and hide behind FFP.
  12. @JoeH where has this Healey rumour come from?
  13. Jamal Lowe is not an out and out striker, but compared to the likes of Roberts etc, he is much more of a goal threat and will genuinely chip in, impressive tally last season. I have never been totally convinced having seen him quite a few times with Lowe to be honest and Swansea fans dont seem to rate him that much. Would much prefer him to say a Dale who scored less in a lower league, he will get us a certain level of goals but he is not the central striker that we need. That being said, does he start v Luton if he comes? 100%. No scope for sell on though. If Obafemi was genuinely that prolific at Premier League, he would be in the Southampton team every week. It is not accurate to add up the minutes in numerous sub appearances with such a small sample and imply that it would be sustainable over the course of full games over a season, it would be a mystery. Lowe played central more last season but in general he is a winger and has been through his career so you are comparing apples and oranges.
  14. I can't see us being able to afford Roberts' wages, he has also had a series of loan spells in a number of places since leaving Celtic and has struggled in them all and has had injuries, maybe a permanent move is what he needs but it definitely can not be instead of a striker here. I wonder if there is a link to Park from their time at Celtic? We have to sign a permanent striker, no amount of wide men can compensate for that. I am not convinced that we will or indeed have the budget to get one, but there you go. Edun seems to tick a lot of boxes, we do need a left back not only to be back up but to challenge for a first team spot, Pickering has flattered to deceive so far, plus Edun is a good age and can play in midfield. Khadra would be totally unnecessary if we got another wide man (Poveda is not a central player) and I would prefer that loan spot if necessary to be used on an attacking midfielder who can get us goals, we lack that.
  15. We need both. 2 of those are wingers, and 2 more have never played senior football.
  16. If our sole permanent signing is this Edun, for whom nothing is confirmed so its all hypothetical, then I would question why it has been spent on a left back but also I would say that why was the budget so low in the first place, and indeed what striker could we get for that amount.
  17. I havent been convinced at all by Pickering and we do need a second left back anyway. But spending money on one would be very odd if we as expected dont sign a striker. Likelihood is that he (or Pickering) would struggle to make the bench when both are fit, just because of the size of squads.
  18. Mowbray needs sacking because he has overseen obvious regression in this last year, and Waggott needs sacking for offering no value to the club at any point during his time either. Neither need sacking purely based on petulance over a potential inability to get a permanent striker in on a pittance. You keep obsessing about Obafemi as if Mowbray is sat there waiting for a phone call back from him, that sky sports transfer centre just regurgitates news, there is no sign that we are still after him, and you are so naive as others have said in thinking that players will come here desperate to play for us. You keep suggesting the same players, 2 are injured, (Simms, Morris) one is a player that you have only seen on youtube, (Healey) another is not a striker (Dale) and one is being linked with £5m moves. We wont sign a permanent striker because seemingly we have barely any money, even after the massive profit on the Armstrong deal.
  19. Is this true? Under them, we rarely sell players at the right time or for the right amount. We had a fire sale during the summer in which we was under embargo, Cairney left for a really low fee, Gestede went on the cheap too. Raya as you mention went cheap, plus Armstrong went for cheap considering how many goals he had scored. Duffy and Hanley didnt get us much either.
  20. Cant argue with the character but quality wise we are sorely lacking and strange tactics only make it worse. Just have to take the point and move on, decent result for a poor performance. Poveda and Clarkson were totally out of their depth, boys in a mans game. Brereton as bad as he has ever been, Rothwell also anonymous in that first half and Travis was really off colour. Gallagher was mixed, superb goal and one or two strong runs but too often easily surrendered the ball with flimsy hold up play. Ayala and Lenihan the stand outs, forced to defend so much and still to get a clean sheet but our best 2 players this season. Carter showed his inexperience and cant complain about the red. Kaminski not as assured as he usually is.
  21. We have been really poor, great goal by Gallagher but otherwise they have been all over us. We have far too many players that are allowing the game to pass them by, Clarkson, Rothwell, Poveda, Brereton and today even Travis. Gallagher has often been too soft and the ball doesnt stick. The Poveda central nonsense is terrible. Both full backs are all over the place too. Carter will do well to last 90 minutes and Pickering continues to underwhelm.

  23. https://www.rovers.co.uk/news/2021/august/Report-Rovers-Under-23s-1-1-Leicester-City-Under-23s/ "With Louie Annesley away on international duty with Gibraltar and Ash Phillips travelling with the first team to Middlesbrough." Definitely true.
