  1. I really don't think I would be alone on that one. A life where you were offered the chance of doing basically nothing is a life I really wouldn't want to have, and if I had to choose, I would rather be put out of my misery than have to live through it. The examples I gave were just examples of the limitations you face.
  2. Exactly...I'm glad you've been converted (again I'm not a MGP supporter, I like the midfield as is)
  3. Well we have to disagree on that, I don't think the death penalty is the proper punishment and I think it is actually ducking punishment. I know I would rather be killed than face a life confined to a single building with no female contact where I had to wear the same things and had very few choices. If they are going to be let off early and that is your problem, then push for the courts to make sure they stay in prison for the proper length of time, if you think the death penalty is what is actually needed, then there's no need to discuss this, as I'm afraid you came a century too late.
  4. He came in with a new broom, but I think the point was that they are different, and that you can't deny. Their styles and methods contrast greatly, we'll have to see who was more successful in three years time, but lets hope for the clubs sake that it was Hughes.
  5. What if you are wronlgy convicted? What happens then? What will you say about a judicial system that puts someone to death simply because their lawyer wasn't good enough. There was a case in Texas I read about not so long ago where 7 men were put on death row for the same offence committed by a single man...wonderful isn't it? I'm not saying the men shouldn't recieve punishment for what they do, but you are all much too extreme. No I wouldn't want my wife and daughter being given a lift by them, but that doesn't mean I think they should all be hanged. Would you all like to tell me the statistics of crime in countries that do still have the death penalty? I think you will find, as I have researched it, that they are no different, so your stance on the subject has no support. Something has to be done, and these men may well be released too soon, but you do go too far.
  6. Isn't 1 goal every 3 games considered to be the standard that makes you a "good" striker, and then if you push it up 1 every 2 games you are up there with the best at your level? I thought that is how it worked, and for 150k, as everyone has said, isn't bad.
  7. Let's hope the SKY cameras didn't pick this up, or else we really could be in trouble
  8. 3 in 4 games? Could easily have had one against Birmingham that Gallagher ended up taking, not sure what his problem is?
  9. Regarding the comment of Marsh that there is no one in our current team to really worry about, I think the form and emergence of the likes of Emerton and possible Thompson mean that going forward we do. While players like Dickov and Ferguson, though not full of tricks and flash, cause the opposition plenty of problems and are probably the topic of much discussion before matches. Well done to Hughes though, I don't want to get all worked up here, but certainly on the things he has direct control over, like fitness and basic tactics, he is getting it right, and it does appear based on the last 4 or 5 performances that the club has somewhat turned the corner, I just hope they don't go and prove me wrong now. If we continue in the same vain, it is quite possible that this could go from being potentially the worst season ever to being quite a good one.
  10. I'll seperate this so that it is not all seen as one big blur and attacked as one. Think some of you may be interested in this- "If you want total security, go to prison. There you're fed, clothed, given medical care and so on. The only thing lacking... is freedom." -Dwight D Eisenhower Maybe we sometimes forget how nice it is in our lives to have freedom? No matter how many games of ping pong and pool we may be able to play, I'm sure a nice walk in the park or a trip to the pub is what they dream of every night. "Freedom is nothing else but a chance to be better." -Alber Camus Unless of course you are an existentialist, but even then prison seems to be the thing that would fit the bill.
  11. Well thats not bad for starters is it? In itself no, of course that is what the judicial system and the police have to do, but it is not all they have to do. Part of their job is to be able to help those who commit the crime, not help in the sense of benefits or rewards, but in helping them overcome their problems. Except in very rare instances, I do believe that most criminals are a victim themselves of either their circumstances or an illness. Does this make their crimes any better or worse? No, but what it does mean is that they should be helped so that they won't do it again and so that they can re-enter society. The judicial system has to work to both prevent crime, punish it, and then make it so that those who committ will not do so again if they are released. This is what the "perfect" system would do, we aren't there, and all of those sections will have it's faults and be the source of problems, especially the first and second. I do think that those who are doing these sorts of crimes are sick individuals, and most probably don't serve enough time in prison, but to say they deserved to be put to death is a bit extreme don't you think? We don't do that to mass murderers, why should this be considered that much worse? I thought we had left the world of an eye for an eye behind in this section of the world, but I guess some of you would like it back.
  12. Interesting, once we went two goals up today I had no worries at all, before that I was on the edge of my seat, chewing my nails, any cliché you can throw out about being worried was probably me at that point. Can't fault any of the performances, amazing improvement in the fitness and the work rate of the players under Hughes, and the passing and movement off of the ball also seems much improved. In the last few games we have really started to string nice moves together, as well as allowing the individual skills of the likes of Emerton, Thompson and Reid to come out. Going forward we really do look a threat, if we could throw in a quality striker, though at the moment we aren't doing badly at all, then it would be a force to be reckoned with.
  13. Excellent result. Clean sheet was much needed and we go a little towards fixing our goal difference. Moves us up the table and we can now look to push on, keep this form going and we'll keep on moving up that table. Played well today, deserved the three points, oh and Andy who? Looks like he's still 5 chances 1 goal.
  14. I guess we'll just have to wait and see who is right on this one... Hope this hasn't been included beforeThompson Will Play Anywhere Though He does say that he wants to be in the centre
  15. Though the length of time that most of these men or women are in prison for is probably not sufficient to cure their illness, I don't think the crimes they commit are worthy of being killed, which I am never for, or never being released. What they often do is horrific and impossible to justify, our society functions in such a way that most criminals are punished "lightly" for what they do and then released back into society where they are then given a second chance. Does this backfire? Of course, like any judicial system will. This probably backfires more than any other because the it is leniant. However, I would prefer to have a system like this, one that is maybe so naive that it thinks that people can change and become better, than one that locks them up and throws away the key. I'm sure a middle ground does exist, but those of you calling for such harsh measures aren't really trying to improve the system. You are protecting society, but not making it better.
  16. Democracy is wonderful because we all get the chance to participate in the government. Democracy is awful because we all get the chance to participate in the government.
  17. He had, had several months with no football at all, and now finds himself third in the pecking order for left midfield, no need to be so hard on the man. He hasn't really done anything wrong.
  18. Oh and Emerton and Ferguson to score, I need the points for the fantasy league
  19. What was the point of that? Souness is gone, and that topic has been covered a thousand times. Where Gresko is, is a very good question though. I haven't seen or heard of him for ages, or even thought of him for that matter.
  20. Where does this idea come from that Thommo can't pass? Positional again no as this was where he started out playing. Maybe the two of them will get forward to much, but the rest of these comments is based on total nonsense. Physically imposing, well thompson is one of the toughest players we have, and probably, other than Reid possibly, the most physically imposing midfielder on our books.
  21. PR cock up? Most people didn't hear about it outside those who support the club, and those who support the club don't really mind all too much. Some of you may be upset, but most think it was the right thing to do just handled poorly, oh well, life goes on.
  22. And the fans thought that Steven Reid was a waste of space who should be transferred at the earliest opportunity - until recently. MGP will not be able to prove himself unless he gets a run in the team like Reid has had. Reid also had to wait a year for this run (granted much of the time was due to injury, but not all).
  23. What an article! Couple of questions........ 1. Why should the chairman of a plc have to justify his comments to some half-arsed reserve team striker who will probably be as ill educated as 90%** of his colleagues in professional football? 2. Wtf has Shaka Hislop got to do with the incident? His contribution is about as relevent to the subject as Lee Bowyer for instance! 3. Yorke seek a move!!! ......... your having a laff! Think Real will be in for you do you Dwight? ** Did I really say 90%? Sorry I meant 99% of his colleagues. Do they not get that SUllivans point was that he would have been smarter to not have even been there in the first place, not to run away as such
