  1. It really is pointless trying to debate with you. A shame you seem incapable of forming any opinions of your own. Firstly, as I have said twice in previous posts, I was working. Do you have difficulty in understanding? Secondly, you just don't understand the Duff 'thing'. Even as a raw 17 year old in either his first or second reserve game for Rovers, you could see within 10 minutes, after his first few touches, that Duff had something about him. In a blue and white shirt, on several occasions I have seen him 'live', I have seen nothing from Brereton to suggest he is anything other than 'Joe Average'. I didn't see Brereton against Arsenal, however, I once did see John O'Mara net a brace for Brentford before Rovers signed him and he turned out to be, IMV, one of the biggest donkeys I've seen in a Rovers' shirt. So Brereton was part of England U19's - how many games did he start and how many goals did he score? Jason Lowe skippered either England U21s or U23s - enough said. As far Mowbray's comments, what do you really expect him to say when he has committed Rovers to a £7m transfer deal plus £millions more in wages? If Mowbray said the moon was made of green cheese I think you would be 'googling' to see if you could order some online!
  2. Wasn't there yesterday as working. That ok? Comparing to Duff!? You just don't get it do you! I am not comparing him with Duff, Mbappe, Sessegnon, Alex-Arnold, Ampadu at all. The first point, relative to Duff and indeed any footballer with any kind of talent, is that they almost certainly show something during the course of a game, even if they are having a poor game, to suggest they have something in their locker. When I saw Duff, and I think it was either his first or second reserve game for Rovers, he was a raw 17 year old who we had just signed from a club in Ireland for, I think, a friendly game the following season. There was therefore no great expectation but as I posted earlier, his very first few touches were enough for me to sit up and take notice and think there just might be a real talent there. Contrast that with Brereton who has arrived in a £7million deal to great hopes and, not unreasonably, great expectation, and I have yet to see him do anything in a Rovers' shirt to suggest he is any better than a free transfer signing! The second point, and the reference to the 'big names' mentioned, is that it doesn't matter how young you are. If you have talent and are good enough then you are old enough. I am sure there are 'lesser' names throughout the FL aged 19 or under and all making an impact at first team level. Brereton is 19 and not deemed good enough to command a first team place in Rovers' team either as a 'wide striker' or as a 'central striker'. IMV, it is simply absurd that Mowbray has sanctioned the signing of a 19 year for a huge deal (in current circumstances) for Rovers and he doesn't deem him good enough to start. For that scale of money, the lad should be a 'game changer' who takes our team to a different performance level.
  3. They are but the point I'm making is any player with talent shows something, Brereton has shown me nothing. IMV, he just looks like a lad we've picked up on a free transfer hoping he'll develop into something useful - like when we signed Andy Needham on a free from Brum (not many will remember that one!).
  4. A player can be having a poor game but over the course of a match, if there's anything about him, he will usually do something that makes you think 'this lad might have a bit of something'. None of us have seen Brereton as often as we would like in a blue and white shirt given the £7million deal but when I have seen him, I've felt underwhelmed and sat there scratching my head as I've seen nothing that suggests to me that we might have a 'proper player' on our hands. I contrast that with Damien Duff who I first saw as a 17 year old in Rovers' reserves - his first few touches got me thinking we just might have a real talent here. Duff debuted as an 18 year old in the Premier League and was man of the match - fans left the ground purring. This was 20+ years ago, maybe you weren't even around then, but the point I'm trying to make is that if a lad has real talent it makes you sit up and take notice just as Duff did as a 17 year old in that reserve match. Sadly, Brereton draws a blank with me.
  5. You really do talk nonsense. Supported Rovers for 55+ years home and away including Europe and in the process probably spent a fortune when factoring in family tickets etc. Also. played at a decent level myself until I busted my knee (as opposed to those who have never kicked a ball in anger in their life). So don't try and tell me I don't care about Rovers or I don't know what I am talking about. I hope Brereton proves a roaring success. as I do with all Rovers' signings, however, based on what I've seen of the lad, I think we've signed a dud in a £7million deal - it's as simple as that.
  6. So Brereton is the new Messi then based on some of the stuff on here!? Philipl talks about Brereton being the best fit for our strategic needs at £7m!? Wasn't at the match today as working but feels like a sense of perspective needed here. Seen Brereton's run in the box for the penalty, and we were lucky to get it, and will see the same thing countless times tomorrow on the local pitches from young lads playing for fun and paid nowt!. Read comments he looked 'bright' but it wouldn't have been difficult in what even Mowbray said was a 'horrible, ugly' game. Hope I'm proved wrong but I don't think the lad is a £7million player and never will be. Would have been worth a go on a 'free'.
  7. You'r right. The lad has a spark.
  8. Sounds awful and sadly predictable given the starting eleven. Mowbray doesn't help himself. Leaves Palmer out after one of his best games for us, shunts Reed out wide and plays 'dumber and dumber' as our two holding men. Defensive and square pegs rule!
  9. Get the £7million man on then!
  10. Can't get to the match today as having to work - looking at that line-up, not sorry about it. Defensive and square pegs again!
  11. What has he ever done?
  12. Who says Marriott's wages were a problem? He's 19 for goodness sake and joined in a £7m deal. Shudder to think what Mowbray would do with 'youngsters' like Mbappe, Alex-Arnold, Ampadu, Sessegnon ! Bottom line is if you are good enough then you are old enough and, IMV, Brereton isn't good enough and will be an expensive flop. And if Mowbray was reliant on scouting reports from others and hadn't seen the player himself and committed the club to a huge deal then, IMV, he should be sacked.
  13. Now you are being silly. Of course training is crucial. Many of the top, top players are where they are because they practise their skills long after others have sauntered off. There are other players who hate training and don't show up well but on the field of play they are dynamite. The bottom line here is that Mowbray has, IMV, come out with ludicrous comments about Brereton earlier today which could be interpreted as a serious indictment on the way Rovers scout players and make judgements on players. To sign a central striker in a huge deal for Rovers and then say based on training, he's more suited to playing out wide is, IMV, farcical - it's then compounded by commenting we are a striker short! If this had been Kean or Coyley..........................................................................................!!!!!
  14. Didn't seem to for Ben Gladwin. Seemingly stunning in training but, IMV, total cr@p where it really mattered! LV has also mentioned Bruno Ribeiro, seemingly another star in training but who looked useless again where it mattered.
  15. Wow. Incredible comments. Did Mowbray watch the lad at Forest before we signed him? I think this signing has horror story written all over it.
  16. Got family in and around Preston, and a soft spot for the place, so always an 'interesting' match for the family. Sadly, can't make it this time due to a work commitment. Three previous matches stand out for me at Deepdale. A misty Saturday in either Nov or Dec 1967 when we hammered them 5-3 and there was quite a bit of nasty crowd aggro that day. Seem to recall 'give us a goal' Barry Hole notching at least once that day. Goodness knows what the likes of Keith Newton, Mike Ferguson, Eamonn Rogers and Barry Hole would be worth today - now they were players. Kendall's second season (1980/81) when we missed promotion back to Div 1 (now PL) on goal diff.. I put it down to the 0-0 at Preston with only two matches remaining after that match. We missed some chances that night and it might have been Marshall Burke who missed a sitter at the Town End in the 2nd half when it was easier to score. Won that and we'd have gone up. May 2001 and happier times when Souey's lot took us back to the PL. Will be disappointing if we don't sell our full allocation for this one.
  17. Did you never see Kean walking his dog?
  18. Perhaps Chaddy you need to think a little more deeply and then you would not have asked the question in the first place! As for change of tact - I still don't think you understand posters sometimes don't want to reveal full detail behind gossip/rumour, or sometimes even fact, as they do not wish to be compromised. I think it was only yesterday you asked a poster to PM you with other strikers Rovers may have been interested in - you just don't leave people alone. I am certain the majority of members on this MB post in good faith and find it irksome when you seem to frequently dis their contributions should those contributions be contrary to your own agenda / opinions.
  19. If Rovers/Waggott/Mowbray were clients of mine, I would not be commenting about them on a MB!!! A thought for you to consider about Rhodes. Maybe before he eventually left Rovers, he had been close to the exit door on other occasions until a key individual (or more than one individual) had a change of mind!?
  20. You shouldn't. All I'm suggesting is 'information' picked up at such events should be tempered with caution.
  21. I am an accountant and I deal with people and organisations in all walks of life (including sport). Through knowledge and experience, you have a feeling of what's going on in many aspects of life. I can tell you that 99.9% of professionals in the fields of law, accountancy etc will maintain the highest standards of confidentiality and integrity expected.
  22. You have therefore seen the contracts for both players?
  23. On a £7million+ deal, any half decent agent would have ensured Brereton wouldn't need a mortgage for a £600k house!!! I would be extremely surprised if Brereton is earning much less, if anything, than Marriott. You don't buy a Merc and put remoulds on!
  24. An old, old trick of 'managing' the fans. Don't buy everything you are told!!!
  25. Maybe quite a bit higher!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When the deal was done, seem to recall Posh owner stating wages 'were big' but certainly not £20k!! How much do you think Charlie & Bradley are on?
