Rule number 1 - never ever follow Merce’s betting tips.

Hopefully he can get you a pint at Ewood sometime to compensate.

Hey, now come on be fair - there have been 2 or 3 racing tips that have romped home and made money for some on here who made a flutter!

Others have also made money on managerial appointments I flagged!

Jesus wept, not bean counting,  back to transfer news anyone?

    Who is replacing Rothwell?

Bean counting is important when you have a situation where it leads to your better players thinking they are having the p1ss taken out of them.  If a talented and established  Championship player can get a six fold increase in his wage merely by moving to another club in the same league then that would suggest to me that his existing club has taken him for granted and taken the p1ss.

Excuse my probable naivety about NI, but how come when I'm paying it, it gets taken off my wage, but when wealthy footballers are contributing it, it's apparently on top of their wage?

You personally pay employEES' NI as do footballers - this is deducted from your gross wage / salary.

What employing organisations pay (including football clubs) is employERS' NI.

Its a random website, so it clearly untrustworthy. But how on earth would Poveda have managed to get such a high wage when he has never been a proper first teamer at Leeds?

A wage structure would depend on many factors anyway, no club would have it whereby the sole factor is ability. It depends on how long ago they signed their contract, their age, how influential they were at that time assuming it was a renewal for an existing players or where (and if there was a fee) they have been signed from.

I don't know but I was told by someone connected to Rovers what the lad's wage at Leeds was and I'm pretty sure he would know.

I've worked with a number of organisations on both remuneration scale / structures and pricing structures / strategies and in my professional opinion, if that is a 'structured' approach to wages then it is indefensible and you could drive a horse and cart through it.

Those figures are simply wrong because the total wage bill is at least double the £9m quoted.

    Don't think they are!

Those stats show about 65 players (less than 30% of those employed by Rovers) and excluded Mowbray, coaches, analysts, scouts, medics, directors (directors remuneration £0.5million+ for starters) etc

    Last filed Rovers' accounts show:

    • 145 players and management employed across football
    • 80 employed across Commercial, Admin and Building / Ground maintenance

Also bear in mind, that employers' NI comes in at a whopping 14% with every £100,000 of wages costing an additional £14,000!

Indicatively, I would suggest that file is pretty close to the mark.

    He does a decent job.

    A matter of opinion!

You want your local journalist to be knowledgeable, decisive, inquisitive, brave and honest.  If he is, will command the respect of both club and fans.

IMO, Sharpe has no real sources, is nearly always behind the curve, sits on the fence and in the main gives Mowbray an easy ride.

If this is even remotely indicative then Rovers have big, big problems to come.

Little wonder Rothwell seems to be offski.

How the feck can you have Davenport earning twice as much as Rothwell, Travis and Buckley and more than Nyambe - relatively, for established Championship players, IMO, the wages of these four with so much potential are ridiculously low.

The Poveda wage doesn't surprise me - the only surprise is Rovers aren't paying more (as I was given to understand) of what I understand to be a £35k+ weekly wage with Leeds.  I posted about Poveda's wages when Rovers signed him and many on here couldn't believe it, now you know!

That wage 'structure' if anywhere near correct, and I use the word 'structure' loosely, is, IMO, indefensible and the height of incompetence and an indictment of the abilities of Waggott, Mowbray and Venus.

Not straw clutching but My mate's son has pointed out that Sharpe's twitter feed is saying that the situation from Rovers end on Rothwell is that it is basically unchanged. I.e. no sale without replacents first.

Are we saying he's completely wrong?

I don't think Sharpe know his arse from his elbow - IMO, a hopeless journalist.

Den, you mentioned Fred Pick before.

It was slightly before my time but I'd imagine there's a huge difference. Back then I guess we needed to sell to survive. The difference here is Venky's don't need the relatively nominal fee we'll get for Rothwell.

Fortunate enough to see 'Pick' when we were leading Div 1 - didn't understand the 'politics' as only a young lad.

However, do remember my dad discussing with friends and fans were in uproar.  This followed on some 2/3 years after the abolition of football's maximum wage and the gripe was Rovers said they needed to average 20,000 to make a go of it and I think we were averaging circa 22,000 at the time.  Seemed like lunacy of the highest order and many fans never forgave Rovers.

Good on the owners if that's their stance.

We aren't going to be able to adequately replace Rothwell at such short notice and we can't afford another Armstrong scenario where he isn't replaced.

If Rothwell isn't sold he'll have to continue to perform if he still wants a move in summer.

One good performance from him and all this furore will be next week's chip paper.

Disagree - his stock is now too high and clubs will realise what's gone on.

IMO, there's no way back for Rothwell now.  Never one of Mowbray's favourite sons and the tenuous umbilical cord will be well and truly severed, IMO.

    Talented but was never consistent.

and you get consistency with a good run of games and you aint worried that if you miss a track back the manager will haul you off and consign you to the bench for the next six games!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll say again, IMO, Rothwell has been grossly mismanaged by Mowbray since the day he arrived from Oxford.

Until this season, Rothwell hasn't played well enough, consistently enough to justify feeling messed about. We've seen that he was more than happy to run his contract down at his last club to join a club higher un the pyramid and earn more cash. All the evidence points to him just doing the same to Rovers, which notwithstanding how he's gone about asking for a move, is fair enough.

Agree that given where we are now though, we should take the £6million assuming we can spend that on replacement(s).

My argument would be, prior to this season, he's never been given a fair run to establish himself.  He was in and out, shunted here and shunted there.

It was clear to me from day one the lad had real talent and could excite the fans.  When you have a talent like that, you nurture and give lots of tlc and then you end up with something special and a player who recognises what you've done for them.

When you think of some of the nonentities who've curried favour with Mowbray and the way he's looked after them, it's a real sickener.

Always wanted to go to Kenilworth Rd with it being such a quaint little relic of the past and was watching from the home area today due to the unavailability of tickets in the away end.

Loved the ground, not so keen on the performance, which laid bare our lack of depth. Think we need a striker, right winger and central midfielder or it'll be a push to make the play offs playing so poorly.

Agree we improved a bit after HT when Butterworth came on for Gallagher. Thought the only player to do himself justice today was Buckley and the manager bizarrely took him off after which we went worse again.

Escaped with a point but will have to play much much better than that.

    Glad you enjoyed your day.

Personally, I think it's a dump of a ground in a dump of a town.  No happy experiences for me there.
