[Archived] Hail Murali - The Greatest Bowler Of Them All

Recommended Posts

HE

DOES

NOT

And anyone who claims so doesnt understand Cricket, bio-mechanics or in fact the spirit of the game

Here are the comments from someone who doesn't know as much about the game of cricket as our Flops ....a certain Geoffrey Boycott -

"Muttiah Muralitharan will break Shane Warne's record of 708 Test wickets at some stage and it could happen in the first Test against England.

But the fact is that he will never share the same status as Warne. There are people, and I'm one, who have never approved of his action. It is a stigma he will always carry, whereas Warne is an icon.

Warne will always be remembered as a great bowler. Murali, lovely lad that he is, will only be remembered as the leading wicket-taker.

They should not be mentioned in the same breath..."

There are also a few notable umpires who have pulled up Muri's bowling .....before , of course , the rules were conveniently manipulated to accommodate him (or more importantly the cricketing nations in that part of the globe )

Presumably these umpires also need re-educating by our resident cricketing expert .....

Yes but Boycott is renowned for talking arse just to get his name in the paper. I love him on TMS but there is one thing that Sir Geoffrey of the Boycott is interested in, and thats Geoffrey Boycott Esq. Listen to him name drop, next time he commentates, hes worse than Beefy.

There has not been a more selfish cricketer (bar Kallis ) in the past 50 years

He's mean and spiteful and hinders more than he helps. For all he goes on about how to coach and manage - what has he actually done to that end?

The guy's an arse (but an entertaining one though)

I'll say this slowly and clearly - the 15degree rule came in after extensive testing of many bowlers, where it was found that most bowlers were having a flex of more than Murali - due to hyperextension of his elbow, Murali actually looks worse than it is - and as for the Umpires one is Daryll Hair that your sainted Boycott took great delight in destroying after the Oval fiasco.

Does Murali Chuck? No, but even if he did whats worse, a slightly bent arm or - Rampant commercialisation to the detriment of the game, match fixing, gambling, running players into the ground with too much cricket, decisions so bad that they should never ever be given, taking performance enhancing (or masking) drugs?

I think an arm that bends less than 15 degrees is the least of our or Sir Geoffrey's worries.

Or it should be anyway

There's an excellent article here about Murali.

Of course it is.

The Indian (sub) Continent Club...erm sorry ICC appointed experts, ruled that his action is legal.

The sub continent must be appeased at all costs ......money , you see .

Is it still true that under arm bowling is "legal" ?

No doubt if a sub continental cricketer were to specialise in bowling maiden- overs in this manner he would be lauded as a genius by the appeasers .

In the eyes of true cricket lovers though , it would be regarded as cheating .

Murilitheran and Malinga are frauds . Let's not be too frightened to say so ....

They are not frauds, they might be from the subcontinent but they aint frauds, and you obviously arent a cricket lover or you would now that there is no question over the legality of malinga's action.

Under arm is illegal, round arm (ie shoulder height) is fine.

I'm beginning to doubt whether this all new happy clappy board initiative is going to work long term Den. In the absence of a proper informed debate I can see that it will not be too long before any of us (usual suspects) will be falling out over LCD's or Plasma's.

btw I think LCD's are crap! :)

I'm suprised that you bothered to ask me that question Den cos it only half concerns me. As you will surely be aware the guidelines are only ever applied to the posts that I make ..... not those that I receive.

  • 2 weeks later...

I gave up crying over England after the final day of Adelaide.

Take the rough with the smooth, we're not as bad as it feels right now (and the Aussies would have us believe) and we're not as good as the tub thumping red tops would want us to believe.

There's a good team there, it just needs some time playing together and training.

Also being able to ###### catch would be really really ###### useful :)
