Paul Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 I've heard one story that it's really just a giant Scalextric track
AussieinUk Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 I thought they were still working on getting the beam to go round both ways, not expecting the particles to collide for a while yet. BBc doing updates here Maybe your right... I saw some footage our ABC news tonight. I thought that was one of the collisions. Read here "Within an hour they had successfully completed a circuit, signified by two white dots flashing on a computer screen."
Claytons Left Boot Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Jeez, it's gone all dark and gloomy round here. Fires everywhere. Depressed looking mutants crawling the streets. Thunder and lightning. Derelict houses. Wait a minute, I can see a sign....Brunshaw Road...............
Flopsy Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 "Within an hour they had successfully completed a circuit, signified by two white dots flashing on a computer screen." So they've just spent $5billion just so they can have a really good game of Pong then? good work if you can get it I suppose.
American Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 They ran the protons around, but haven't smashed them together yet, from what I read.
blue phil Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Another two weeks or so I believe ..........and then we'll have an idea what it was like just before the Big Bang
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 I'm pretty sure they said it's nothing like the Big Bang, but it is similar from a scientific point of view. So don't expect an explosion and Raptors to be sprinting down Bolton Road chasing Neanderthals (although those across the border in Yorkshire are commonly mistaken for Neanderthals.)
Nate Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 Has the world ended yet? This will tell you Has the world ended yet?

Presty On Tour Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Will it happen today? 12hr (pm) 34min 56sec on the 7th day of the 8th month of the 9th year all the numbers are in order. 123456789 (obviously forgetting the 0's e.g 2009) Won't happen again for a 100 years! It did happen back on the 8th of July because in America they have their month before their day unlike in the UK. I think we are pretty safe and it's a bit late to start building a bunker in the garden!
S15 Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Unluckily for the cricket team, the world didn't end.
Flopsy Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Bloody England, they can even find a way to cock up the end of the world.
grizfoot Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Is The Large Hadron Collider Being Sabotaged from the Future? Makes for interesting reading but just sounds like one big excuse for not being able to get the thing to work to me.
