Miker Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Where do you begin with the inaccuracies in that report? Formica is yet to join Rovers, JJ played centre half, etc etc. There are at least 5 teams weaker than us, the there promoted teams, Villa and Wigan and we are yet to invest, I have faith in our team. Just read that article after seeing the link on NewsNow and WOW. I'm not even going to waste my time commenting on it, completely rubbish analysis filled with inaccuracies. Joke.

roverandout Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 trouble is villa have a better side than us at it stand anyway. You cant discount all the newly promoted teams either. Norwich have a winner in lambert, who has worked miracles so far and brought in at least 6 new players, we have brought in none so far, qpr have a manager who has been around the block a few times and have cash to spend plus a midfield mistro in taarabat, he is better than anything we have in midfield. Swansea on the other hand, i would tip to go down. I agree with wigan, they were lucky to stay up last season and what dave whelan sees in martinez is beyond me, though you could say the same about kean. There only about 2 or 3 worse teams in the premiership at the moment than rovers so relegation is a real posibility. That american article was a load of tripe though in places. Samba going to villa? since when?

colin Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Well, all of these pre-season predictions are just that. Predictions. Best guesses by people who should have a bit of an insight into how the season will pan out. They don't have psychic powers, who would have expected Chelsea 0 - 4 Sunderland. Like the rest of us they are just making slightly educated guesses as to what will happen by May 2012. No point getting them in a twist just because a magazine has us to get relegated. Mark Lawrenson is continually berated by Football365 for getting his predictions wrong but, in a interview with "Small Talk" here he doesn't care much. And in my opinion quite rightly. If a football magazine predicts that we will be relegated, then it is its perogative. Come May 2012 no-one will be writing to them to congratulating them on their foresight. Getting annoyed by football experts is a fairly pointless exercise.
FourLaneBlue Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Exactly, Colin. However, there is a point. If all the outsiders think you will do badly, you should have a think about it. Does this mean that the entire world is involved in an anti-Rovers conspiracy? Or, does it mean that we aren't looking the best bet at the moment? If so, we should really be sorting our stuff out for the new season. Generally, the predictions correspond to what seems to have been a rather bizarrely-run club this past year. It is up to Rovers, and the owners, to sort things out at their end so the team is capable of upsetting those predictions. Goodwillie is a start, at least. So, we are going in the right direction.
Mattyblue Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Four Four Two found it much easier to try and predict the PL than the Football League. Speaks volumes.
John Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I remember when Sparky was in charge some outsiders were predicting we could challenge for 4th spot - another anti Rovers conspiracy?
imy9 Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I remember when Sparky was in charge some outsiders were predicting we could challenge for 4th spot - another anti Rovers conspiracy? I don't remember that John. I'll tell what I do remember though the "bully boy" tag that the media had attached to us and most predicted us to finish mid to lower table. Rovers conspiracy? Hell yeah!
Steve Kean's Hypnotoad Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I don't remember that John. I'll tell what I do remember though the "bully boy" tag that the media had attached to us and most predicted us to finish mid to lower table. Rovers conspiracy? Hell yeah! Yeah me too, I absolutely remember that. The season we dropped to 10th after finishing 6th with Hughes they were slating us left, right and centre. Mocking us about our red card count and generally predicting a rubbish next season. Ended up finishing 7th of course. The only time the media ever bother paying attention to us is to slate us. Personally couldn't give a damn what they think and neither should Venkys. If they're not slating the advert they're slating our transfers, if they weren't slating that it'd be back to our attendances and how unfashionable we are, if it wasn't that we'd suddenly become cloggers again. Its annoying to read but screw them, we've irritated them for 10 years staying in this league at the expense of the higher retail sales they'd get from the likes of Leeds and Derby, lets keep doing it.
