Cruyff made this point in a recent article. Athleticism is a secondary concern, at most. All children grow. The number one criteria to nurturing home grown talent should be technique, not whether they are 6' at 14.

Spot on. Unfortunately the whole football scouting set-up in the UK has for several years been focused on doing the exact opposite, hence why the England team is so poor and we've got any number of brainless athletes like Gerrard who can run fast and kick the ball hard, and agricultural centre-halves like John Terry instead of technicians like Xavi/Iniesta or cultured defenders like Piqué.

Hard to hold anything against the scouts or the academy at the moment when they have recently turned out Olsson, Hoilett, P Jones and now it looks like Lowe. Arguably a better crop than Duff, Dunn, Curtis et al.

Think Curtis was Man U youth who went to barnsley before we picked him up.

For what it's worth, the link below is the Norwich v Swansea match report from yesterday's Sun, and there is an interview with Pilkington. He basically says the game he has been gearing up for is the forthcoming Norwich v Rovers game, as he supported us as a youngster, and all his family are coming down etc etc

markbrfc, dont agree with ur assesment of gerrard or terry, gerrard is a very intellegent footballer, not just some 'lumper' as you call him, as for terry, he is a very acomplished defender, doesnt just wack it into row z, hes underrated technically because of his backs-to-the-wall style, pique certainly isnt the classy defender you make him out to be, hes very much an old style centreback, not all barcelona players play the 'beautiful game'. im a bit tired of english footballers being labeled with this retro kick and rush tag.

To be fair, it's not just last weekend - he's been doing well in the lower leagues with Stockport and Huddersfield in the last few years, so I'm quite pleased to see a young local lad being given a chance in the Premier League.

Whether or not he's Prem quality we'll see come May...

Two tap-ins against a crap team and suddenly hes flavour of the month, sorry, just dont buy it. Lets see if you'll be remembering him come May 2012.

Good luck to the lad though if hes a Rover :rover:

Zackly what I was thinking.

Thought i would resurrect this topic; an alternative to kean, venkys and protests!

Pilkington has now scored a 25 yard rocket against a decent team. Obviously anybody who read the interview in the telegraph pre norwich game will be aware this lad would clearly love to play for his home town team. He has now got 4 premier league goals. Had a good first half against rovers. Had a good game against liverpool.

After todays game, clearly hoilett wants to be elsewhere. He was rubbish today. Cash in on hoilett and make norwich an offer they can't refuse for this lad!

Hoilett has skill, you cannot compare him to somebody who is having a good run of form, if you want to compare Hoilett compare him to Nzogbia and even then I would rate Junior higher.

Today was the worst game I have seen Junior play since last season and even though he played bad he almost set up a goal, Pilkington is a form player and does'nt have the skill that Hoilett has, he would end up a squad player at best.
