[Archived] Watching the grass grow

Recommended Posts

I have become increasingly exasperated by the clubs policy towards many of the senior players on our books:-

(I know this is nothing new but feel it warrants a thread/discussion of its own. If only to highlight the fact that we have a lot of experience in our squad that does not find it's way into the Team or EVER play together.)

What would a team look like in the Championship made up of the majority of these largely unused players.

O.k you will all no doubt point to the fact that Givet/Vukcevic are now featuring again and Robinson has only been dropped for one match to date but largely the pattern has been one that they have not featured....

1) Salgado (before he went)

2) Givet

3) Robinson (last game)

4) Dunn

5) Nuno Gomes (He hasn't featured since Kean left!!!)

6) Vukcevic

7) Goodwillie

8) Lesser extent Ped's the Pensioner!!!

Why sign players like Nuno if they don't feature even as impact players!!!

This is not to mention younger players like R Hanley, Rossado, Henrique, Jorge, Ribero, Edinhio, Slew who are also grass watching.

The fact is we don't get to choose the team through democracy, we hire a manager who judges a players suitably for the next game though what they see week to week on the training ground which we don't get to see.

After a while the manager will get there reward for the team he picks, new contract or the sack.

+ Gomes,Dunn injured.

+ Goodwillie can't play until January.

Democracy isn't the point! We have a large body of experienced players that have not featured this year (injury or no injury). We have a lot of young players (portuguese etc) who have not played for the first team. The list above contains at least 10 players we have on our books that for whatever reason have not featured consistently or held down a place. That is a lot of dead wood or unused talent!!!

Our Team has quite clearly not been picked over the last year 100% on footballing grounds i.e Salgado, Kalinic more recently Robinson (being forced out or unsettled by media speculation?) and we all suspect Simon contractual issues.

Not to mention suggested interference from Shebby.

Above football, finances and contractual add ons perhaps play a key role in the way our club is run as does the development of potential assets for sale. Yes injury plays a big part but then again you get injuries when you pay for old players to come to your club/remain!

i can't blame Berg for the current team. He has inherited a hell of a poor squad with so much dead wood it is untrue. I suspect he has a lot of other non-footballing decisions he has to take into account when picking his team-so i am not surprised he has not hit the ground running.

The point is the manager of Blackburn rovers has decided they have not proved good enough during training to deserve a starting place.

So you are saying team selection at Blackburn is governed 100% by whether a player is good enough and deserves to start for Blackburn based on training ground performance alone with no other factors taken into account. You are saying this is the mangers choice (Berg) alone and he has the final say on all team selection 100% of the time. O.K!

It was the almost the same as this time last year a few weeks ago with most of the experience and big wages on the bench or seemingly frozen out. Up until the Blackpool game when Givet comes back to start as well as Simon but out of the blue Robbo (poss our highest earner) gets dropped, strange eh!

It's also worth mentioning that Berg was tasked with a similar job in Norway where he had to cut costs for skint and dubious owners and build a younger (cheap) team. Ive no doubt that factor would have come into play in the process of his appointment here.

There could be something in this.
