  1. Yeah, JDT probably could have done what Eustace is doing now once we went on the bad run in December to shore up, but I think he had got to the point where he decided he wasn't here for long so may as well stick to his principles. I do think that run and leaving on such a low will have done massive damage to his career though, more than he thinks. I see Sweden have not announced him....
  2. Gut feel is we're going to get absolutely mullered. Think JDTs strength in the cups is that premier teams couldn't believe how attacking we were and we caught them out. While Eustace approach is the right thing in the league, I imagine we will really struggle to create much on Tuesday
  3. Hes only played 90 mins collectively over the last two games but Buckleys been very impressive not only in how intelligent he is on the ball but also putting a foot in and reading the game off it. Think we will build the team around him now - hes always fitted around others at false 9, right back, number 10 etc. But he will now be the one everyone looks to in the middle of the pitch. I think that focus will really suit him and he'll kick on in the way we have been hoping for a long time.
  4. Its way too early to judge him about anything except is he doing the rational things to keep Rovers in the division. On that score hes doing pretty wel. Anyone trying to get beyond that now is not really connected to what is sensible in my view
  5. Mcfadz looks like the perfect half season signing to me. Hes been so good, and offers exactly what we need.
  6. Yeah on balance Id say we got in behind them more than they got behind us. Theres loads of slagging off of our way of playing - and Cardiff away it was truly dreadful until Buckley came on - but since Eustace has come in Im yet to see a side look any better. It was very even today and while we didnt do any slick football neither did Norwich who are in form and a good footballing side.
  7. A post so good it deserves to be posted twice! Good to read a fair assessment from someone who knows their stuff. I think theres too many who refuse to see the good stuff as well as the bad.
  8. I think under JDT we had 1 win, 1 draw and 11 losses from the last 13 matches where we went behind.
  9. To be honest being able to come back and draw is a huge improvement from where we were.... Under JDT no way back after that free kick.
  10. Yeah after Buckley went off we really struggled. Hes going to be a critical player for us. Overall decent point and decent performance. Thought most played pretty well without the ball. Lots of graft, good defensive shape, physically competed. With the ball it was only really Buckley and Pickering who passed it well. Even Tronstad - usually so reliable - seemed to struggle with simple through balls. Brittain got the ball in so many good positions but just couldn't find his team mates. I know Im a bit of a broken record but it did really feel like the game was crying out for a third mid to help join up the team. Honestly if wed had one then been able to bring on Dolan for the last 30 up front it would have worked better imo. As it was we had the front three pressing well but very little opportunity to actually get on the ball as little service... Dolan did drop deeper second half to help out the mids but he isnt the sort of player you want in the centre circle... Also shout out whoever had managed to improve our corners. First time I think I could describe them as "good" in a very very long time.
  11. Sigurdsson on while Norwich make 3 subs makes me a bit worried about our legs in the last few mins...
  12. First time ive seen two good Rovers corners in a row in 5 years?
  13. Very even game, not many chances. Their keeper has made two good saves, ours one, but the free kick isthe difference. Frustrating as broadly speaking Norwich haven't troubled us too much... Wish we had JRC to play RWB. The room Brittain is getting is mental but hes really struggling to do much with it. Hes made some nice takes and got himself space but the pass or cross has been woeful.
  14. Britain has had the ball in so many decent positions but done so little with it.
  15. I really dont get having the third forward on. They just can't influence the game. We need an extra body in the middle.
  16. Thought as we are 343 we would be sitting deep and playing long... We seem instead to be trying to compress them in their half.
  17. I was wrong, not only are we pressing we are pushing up all the way to the half way line..
  18. Seems very very sparse in Ewood today. I haven't been in since JDT went, seems a lot less?
  19. Yeah, but we have been playing 4231 and flooding the midfield and final third.... I do worry that as the front three will be a bit isolated if we press Norwich will just play round them... As were 343 ill be a bit surprised if we really press as the formation doesn't lend itself to it (leaving a third man back means its easier to break) - I expect us to sit deep and counter, though I am sure Dolan, Szmodics and Gallagher will cover a lot of ground anyway.
  20. Well weve gone 343... no chance of any of the front three helping out the midfield, but Hedges could tuck in I think. Will be interesting how it plays out. I dont think we can just launch it and let Norwich have the ball and the midfield all game. Theyre a much better outfit than Stoke.
  21. Like Travis I think Garett is much better getting forward than sitting and playing in a three with Buckley doing the sitting helps him do that.
  22. I disagree with that personally, I think its better to have a mediocre/makeshift 3rd midfielder who can help out Tronstad and Buckley get a grip of the midfield than a 3rd forward who isolated and sees little of the ball as Norwich lock down the centre of the pitch.
  23. I am hoping the way we setup should stop the easy conceding of goals. It seems to have since Eustace arrived. But Norwich will be the first genuinely decent attacking outfit we have met. Hard to know till the game is played, but I will be very unhappy if we are conservative yet still give away sloppy goals. The number one priority tomorrow is to make it very very hard for the opposition to score.
  24. Really don't get the Pickering hate. He's a good player at this level. Better than any left back we've had in a long time. I like also that he can step into midfield too and pick a pass. Wish he had a bit more pace, but apart from that a very solid player. That said if we are playing 352 I think I'd stick with Hedges as we want the wingbacks to be going forward and stretching the play. Pickering is going to need some time to bed in back from injury. Good for coming on last 30 mins or so.
  25. My guess is he's the sort of player who is great when you are on top and everyones getting forward to combine with but when the teams confidence is shot and he's isolated, and needs to be strong enough, quick enough or clever enough make something happen on his own he can't do it. Sigurdsson is like that also I think. Fair weather players who I don't think we will see much of between now and the end of the season.
