Hard to say. Centre mid you have to hold your position a little more, Butterworth coming on in Dack's position is going to let him express himself more. Butterworth does look tasty though.

Butterworth looks very similar to Chapman.

Big game for Rodwell today, this one could dictate if he's here or not next season. Be nice to see Butterworth and Buckley get 45 mins. 10 mins would be pointless, they're going to need a decent half of football to get on the ball and effect the game.

Didn't want to jinx him in the game but Williams was top drawer at centre half today. Him and Lenihan just do the basics, win headers, stay tight to their men, aggressive in their play, more than that... They can also play a bit, though having a decent midfield in front of them definitely helps. Armstrong was class too, they couldn't live with him. As I said in a previous post on another thread, I think some fans have been harsh on him and I don't think the manager has used him wisely at times. I can remember spells in months gone by were everything just used to go down the left side of the pitch because Bennett or Reed didn't have the same speed as he possesses, it made us one dimensional, predictable and was also asking a lot of him to constantly be beating his man and creating chances. Now with Rothwell on the other side of the pitch and Armstrong on the right we have some really good balance, especially when Rothwell likes to naturally cut inside anyway (today's second goal). Keeper position has to be a priority to sort out and Bennett should not be playing ahead of Nyambe, especially as the season is over. It's really hurting the lad's development, that aside he's a better player and an actual right back. Good win, even if it was a bit meaningless but a missed opportunity to give crucial minutes to Butterworth, Davenport or Buckley IMV.

Rothwell on the build up there was brilliant. Crisp passing, switch of play, completely different team with him playing. Top quality player.

Given his age, pace and price i think Armstrong is a solid 7, got himself a few goals and has been unlucky hitting the woodwork 4-5 times with good efforts. For a period around January he was unplayable, he absolutely ruined Brentford, not many other players I can say that about. There's definitely more to come from him though, we can all see that and I think that's why some of the fans tend to be a little bit harsh on him. Personally I would like to see the manager be a little bit wiser with how he uses him, if he's isn't going to start him out wide then save him to bring on for Graham for the last 25 and get him chasing balls on the shoulder.

Fully expect Smallwood to start today, he's been out of the side too long. Same for Mulgrew.

Then what were Alli and Hughes like when making their debuts at 16? They sure weren't built like sh*t houses. We have a grade 1 academy along side some of the biggest clubs in the world, bringing through talent that's more than competing with their academies. You have to simply give these boys a chance. They won't be physically developed until they're in their 20's but physicality in modern football isn't everything, in fact it's a dying art.

Perhaps Mason Mount isn't good enough then? Perhaps Alli shouldn't have been playing for MK Dons at 16 then? Perhaps we shouldn't have taken a chance on Phil Jones? Or Derby shouldn't have given a debut to Will Hughes at 16 years old? I mean Iniesta and Xavi were tiny, perhaps they shouldn't have been given a chance? Or...

Niklas Sule was captain at Hoffenheim at 18 and I can think of a few other German players who were captain of their own clubs at similar ages in recent times too.

People are only just hearing about him now because of how well they're doing in the CL, I've followed him since he made his debut when he was something ridiculous like 15/16 years old, he made his debut for the national team at 17 years old, starting at centre half,he had an absolute nightmare but it was valuable development experience. The earlier you blood them the earlier they will be ready for first team football and understand the demands of true competitive football. In comparison to German football and Dutch football, 21 years old isn't really that young, obviously these players at this age aren't the finished article but show a high level of maturity. The issue in English football is the money, the pressures to stay in leagues, achieve playoff or European places mean that managers don't want to take risks. Ajax being in the league they're in with only PSV to challenge them, they can afford to take risks. Rovers are in a tricky position, well the manager is anyway. The financial situation is dire, there is no point investing lots of money into the academy if we're not going to give the youth prospects game time to attach some valuations to their names. For me, the playing the youngsters is a model I can really support the manager on, throwing money at players isn't. Recruitment is important of course but in the Championship spending big is dangerous, look at Derby... 8 mill on Waghorn, 11 on Lawrence, are they really any better than Rothwell who cost a few 100k? Not for me. Same goes for Brereton. Being mathematicaly safe, I'd like to see the manager be bold and make one of the youngsters like Buckley or Butterworth captain and give them some real experience.
