  1. His insistence on not bringing in a striker here is a big reason for Sunderland getting into the play offs. We were a 16 goal striker away from being above them.
  2. He opted not to sign a striker himself. If anyone shafted us last season, it was Mowbray.
  3. It depends on how proactive the club is in bringing in the right players and moving on those that aren't up to it. If they make up for their mistakes in January, then I'll be very positive about next season. Amazed that you can compare Carrick's squad to Tomassons. Their top 3 goalscorers had something like 50 goals this season (84 in total, the second highest amount of goals scored). Boro should have been in the automatics. If I was a Boro fan and we'd just made the play offs with that talent, I'd be unhappy with Carrick. And if they don't go up what a failure.
  4. Yep. And one had five years and a lot more money to do it.
  5. There was a great chance for a play off place last season that he fucked up.
  6. That's true, across the web I'm seeing the blame almost entirely aimed at Waggot and co. I've only seen people on here laying the blame at the managers door.
  7. Aye, if Chelsea or Spurs came along he'd never leave Burnley 🙄
  8. I hope Boro batter Coventry in both legs, then we sign Gyokeres. Their keeper ends up sent to a none league team for letting in 10 at home. Cheating goalkeeping tw*t.
  9. It's when he builds his own team you should worry. He left us with no decent centre forwards. In January 2022 he stated that a big centre forward wouldn't run the channels. That's the kind of manager you have to look forward to. "If we had a striker for 15 games." 1 game would have done us, take your pick from any of the Preston, Burnley or Coventry games (Burnley would have been good). We'd be in the play offs now.
  10. Left us with no strikers which is a key reason why his juggernaut overtook us. If only he had a braincell to rub together it'd be a masterstroke.
  11. 7th placed finish which is the highest we've been since all those years ago when Venkys took over, but disappointing when with a couple of players we would likely have got an extra few points and into the play offs. Positively speaking, for the first time in a long time we are faced with the prospect of an interesting season if the manager is backed and stays. Will they? Their past record tells me all I need to know but I would hope with us losing out on the play offs due to goal difference that it makes them realise we have a good chance to go for it next season. We need to bring in some quality and move on some of the players that have massively let us down. At the beginning of the season I predicted a 12th place finish due to lack of goals, questions over the fullback positions, over reliance on the academy and a lightweight midfield. So it exceeded my expectations. One massive worry is that near the start of the season Broughton said we wouldn't be doing a lot of business in January, and he stuck to that! Considering our lofty position you would have thought there would be some course correction, but it seems at Rovers if they make a decision, they don't just stick to it, they also sabotage what little business they've decided to do.
  12. Sounds like he's got a bad front as well. Avoid!
  13. The thing that will hurt the most is if Waggot and co think they can go into another season coasting it. Much worse than Burnley easily going straight back up, being well beaten at home to Preston or Mowbray having success at Sunderland.
  14. Josh Maja looks like exactly the sort of player we don't want. That Nisbet looks like he'd be a good fit though.
  15. Not the point, we need to replace the goals he's scored as no one else in the squad is anywhere near prolific.
  16. Well if we don't we'll be at the other end of the table as without BBD that's 14 goals less than we had this season. To improve on this season we need to replace Brereton's goals and bring in a good striker. I don't know why anyone expects us to get promoted if we don't have the basics in place. It's what separated us from the top 6 teams.
  17. 16 extra goals would have made us play off contenders this season, even with all the other problems.
  18. Am I the only person who heard him and thought he just meant it was seen as a rebuilding job at the beginning of the season, with players outgoing and being unable to bring in the amount of players required, and that's why it's a great achievement.
  19. Ultimately, it'll always be a struggle if the club don't support the manager. Since we got relegated from the PL, every season we've been crippled by something. We were unlucky this season but not helped by the recruitment team crapping themselves when the spotlight was on them. We're our own worst enemy and I'd hope that the goal is automatic promotion, not the play off lottery.
  20. I never expect him to score any, but that's what he scored last season and this.
  21. Yes, and bizarrely an improvement on last season position wise, but with the same points tally. I'd say that's a lesson for the people running the club that if you stand still you don't improve. But it's clear the people running the club are interested in stretching themselves and are happy to cost the club £££s year after year.
  22. We keep saying it'll be a tougher division but it's pretty much the same old. You get two or three very good teams (for this league), a few decent teams, the bulk of them can give you a game, and then there's the ones right at the bottom trying to claw themselves away from League 1. If recruitment steps up we'll do alright, if they don't we'll really struggle without BBD's goals. We can't do an entire season with Sam Gallagher and his 8 or 9 goals.
  23. He looked positively youthful when he arrived, so I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't walk away from football altogether. After a year with that grim bunch in the offices, it'd put anybody off!
