Regarding most players training and some not, Bolton Wanderers had an excellent centre back, Gudni Bergson. He was in his late thirties and never trained as hard as his team mates but was always first name on the team sheet. He was superb. I think Big Sam was their manager at the time. Just saying as a matter of interest.

JDT picked a silly set up by having Travis and Brittain as square pegs. Brittain and Pickering it should have been. Why should a manager decide that all players play his way? The best managers are those who recognise the strengths and weaknesses of his players and picks a team accordingly allowing the players to express themselves.

Seeing Garrett get sent off for a lovely sliding tackle made me think how much the game has changed. It's now played by superfit cissies. Ronnie Clayton would have been sent off every game under present laws.

Just finished watching the game. It's all been said but I've one more thing to add. We, as a team, were very good. And I think we'll get better. Jack Vale in that 20 minute spell looked far better than I have seen him play. He's now one of the squad proper. A good player. I cannot wait to see more of the lad.

Yeah. JLL was a fantastic performer. He was so ahead of his time. People were still very stuffy in those days in spite of Bill Haley, Elvis and Tommy Steele. JLL was frowned upon by the older people but to us youngsters he was a breath of fresh air.
