  1. Chaddy these types of lists are pointless. We don't have a decent structure behind the scenes when it comes to identifying talent and punching above our weight.
  2. Well either you or him are lying. He can speak generally I'm sure and I have no doubt that sound promising at times, but when it comes to the nuts and bolts someone is else is doing that and that's when issues arise and players get greedier and backtrack on verbal discussions. https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/tony-mowbray-delivers-fresh-update-on-blackburn-rovers-aces-future/
  3. City have done it. It's pretty common. Just some owners don't have the money or are unwilling to do it.
  4. I doubt it would be just that straightforward to knock and start building on.
  5. Did we leave it too late though? Do you know exactly when negotiations with them started or when offers were made. I mean it could have been 2 years ago. I suppose, either way, they haven't signed. I think Lenihan is very important to the team and you are doing him a bit of a disservice. He wins so many aerial duels per game and does a lot of dirty work. Distribution lacking at times, but could we sign better? I don't think we could. No guarantees anyway.
  6. No, but we can't just offer every player a wage at the top of the ceiling. It depends on what they are delivering and Rothwell is inconsistency personified. Although he is getting better I think. As many players do when looking for a new deal.....
  7. Isn't that auxiliary company that bought it set up solely for functions in relation to Blackburn rovers football club though? I suppose if they ever do go, that would be part of the deal? As in someone else would need to acquire it along with the club? I'm only guessing about that.... I think this move is becoming the norm at clubs really. They all pull strokes to use their owners money, especially the top clubs. If Venkys were successful here up to now we would probably all be saying it's a great idea/move
  8. No, but he must want more than we are offering. I would be very interested to know where the impasse is at with each of the 3 mentioned. I don't get the 2nd line, sorry?
  9. How valuable Mowbray says they are is irrelevant when we have a wage structure/cap. I'm sure he wants to sign our best players to longer deals, or did anyway when he knew he would be here. Now he is probably less bothered as he might not be here and he has his own next contract to think about. It all comes down to deeper issues within the club and how things are done
  10. He will get more than that I'd say. I think Mowbray was operating within the budget he was given, the contract sorting is outside of that and up to someone else. We have a wage cap. It's not as simple as Mowbray says don't sign Pears and give the extra money to Lenihan. At the end of the day we don't know why they won't sign. Is it just financial, or is it for footballing reasons
  11. I mean what you said below is incorrect. HR in conjunction with finance sort contracts. Not football people. "No but the manager gives recommendations on a players worth and Value. Cheston is a number cruncher not a footballing person." The manager says he wants X player. The club tries to sort the financials.
  12. Yes of course it's up to him who gets new deals. Don't confuse that with negotiating the deals. Now you have moved onto whether those 12 signings were good or not. Different issue. You are implying he said not to sign those out of contracts to deals, he's banging on about this for ages. Actually sorting this is above his head and as such the blame lies there. Or maybe the players just don't want to sign no matter what. I don't know and you don't know. Do you not see the massive flaw with your Ayala/Lenihan solution? We wouldn't have one of them now.
  13. Would you not be happy on £4,000 a week? I'll even go along with your figures being correct and it still means he would have 2 years left to run on less than he would get if he leaves on a free when his contract is up. Far less when you factor in a sign on fee. They were all brought in for frees or low fees. You sell Lenihan, Nyambe and Rothwell, you bring in say £8 million, they might have given him £2 million to reinvest , maybe less. It's not rocket science when it comes to having your best possible team out there from the managers point of view. Sorting out contracts is the role of someone , possibly in the finance department, I don't know how they are set up behind the scenes, but it isn't the manager. He has miniscule to no input on the functional and practical side of sorting contracts with agents.
  14. Ok, you really don't understand how negotiating player contracts work. I would advise reading up on it more before coming on vocally claiming to know the ins and outs
  15. You have no clue Nyambe would have been happy with that on a long term deal. He is highly rated in some quarters and I'm sure his agent is telling him that. You also don't know what Bennett was on. Also for all we know he was offered a deal back then and his agent advised against accepting it, as he is continuing to do. Should Mowbray bump the figures up from his own pocket? Stop being silly. Mowbray gets a transfer budget, he doesn't need to work out potential current players contracts from this and do these calculations on his excel spreadsheet. We couldn't spend it this summer, which is part of a 3 year cycle, which included the previous 2. There is no guarantee he would have had any money to spend if he sold Nyambe, Lenihan and Rothwell, do you understand this? The team would be considerably weaker and fans would have been in uproar. You have actually stopped making sense on this. Mowbray doesn't negotiate contracts. Discussions have been taking place with players about contracts. You seem to think real life is like Football manager.
  16. Cheston possibly? To be honest I don't know who negotiates and finalises them with players agents, but I know it isn't Mowbray.
  17. I don't think Nyambe would be happy to be tied down to a long term deal on what Bennett was on, no. I'm sure his agent thought the same. I would say Bennett was upper mid level in terms of wages. Didn't he sign an extension around when we went down or were in League 1? Exactly, we couldn't spend it, so why are you saying he should have got rid of those who wouldn't sign and replace them like it's football manager on the PC? Talking about contracts and being the one who negotiates them is night and day. I do contracts at work. I know this. It's not simple and Mowbray isn't the one who sits down to iron out and finalise them.
  18. Dack couldn't replace Rothwell in this formation at his fittest. Dack needs to be high up the pitch and central. Running from deep is not his thing.
  19. Roughly I would imagine. He doesn't deal with agents as far as I understand , when it comes to getting down to the contracts proper.
  20. And you think he didn't recommend Nyambe , Lenihan and Rothwell should have been offered new deals? Bennett and Smallwood would have been on peanuts, so that's why they were easier to sort out. If the deals couldn't be done "we move on and replace them?" Yes, in an ideal world, but you have surely noticed that he hasn't been given money in the last few windows, even when we sold Armstrong. So there is no guarantee he would have been given the money from the sales of Nyambe, Lenihan and Rothwell and we would have ended up in a weaker position on the field. As I said, the issue on finances runs above Mowbrays head.
  21. I think you are overplaying Mowbrays role in contract negotiations and the budget for said contracts. It's between the players agents and someone else at the club
  22. So Mowbrays budget for transfers includes re-signing our own players to deals you reckon? I would think that would be seperate for managers really. I have heard a lot say they don't deal with that side of things, including Mowbray himself.
  23. Easy to look back in hindsight on deals that didn't work out. No doubt money was wasted over the last few seasons, but a lot of money has been brought in too relative to that and ultimately if the players won't sign because of financials, that's on the owners who control the purse strings. If it's footballing reasons stopping them signing, well that's a different discussion and at the end of the day, we arent privy to any of those details in relation to what their motivating factors are.
  24. How do you know they left it til the last 12 months? Player power when it comes to contracts. The bottom line is the money isn't there to give them what they want and thats on the owners, plain and simple. On Pears, well we needed a back up keeper and he's a good age. He has played Championship football prior to here. He has looked poor, but aren't we discussing the benefit of tying players to long contracts? Agree about Smallwood and Bennett. Disagre about Ayala. He is wat we have needed for years. Last season was a disaster, but if he plays more than 30 games this year, that's great. He is crucial to us winning games.
