There is no one to sell him.

You’d have thought that they’d have all been able to walk away for free by breach of contract if they weren’t being paid.

    Very odd situation.

With a huge points deduction and an eventual squad of 14 that will be made up of kids and the frees that nobody else wants you’d think that they must be nailed on to be a League Two side in 2020/21. That’s if they don’t go pop.

I do wonder how things are going to pan out at Rovers...

Bolton are 2/1 against being relegated at the minute, which looks like printing money to me. In fact, I would go as far as to say that Salford to be promoted and Bolton to be relegated at a shade over 15/2 is a must for any football punter and even Salford to win League two and Bolton to go down, at 23/1 looks tasty.

Jones will be a multi-millionaire so whatever the next few years bring he will live the good life in retirement and still in his thirties!

When I first saw him I thought he would be England captain with over 100 caps, just about the best young prospect I'd ever seen.

I agree. I first saw him in a night match at Ewood and went into the work the following day, to tell the Dingles there we had a huge star on our hands. He was as good a prospect I had seen come through the ranks in years. Amazing how his fee alone, almost paid Venkys back what they paid for the club.

I've not really seen him play so no idea if he's any good. The problem though now is that PKE are now seen as a  bigger draw than us for prospective signings. I'd be surprised if they pay bigger wages, they certainly don't spend bigger on transfers. So what have they got that we haven't? My guess would be an inspiring, positive manager and not Lance Corporal Jones.

I think that's the bigger issue here. If we have been tracking him for at least a season as reported, then to see him plucked from under out noses like that, doesn't bode well.

  4. It could be a very interesting season and maybe the adage anyone can beat anyone, may well apply to the coming season, even more than the last 2-3 seasons. A quick look at the relegation odds for example has Barnsley as the 2/1 favourites to go down, but none other teams, including Rovers are under 5/1. The favourites for promotion are Leeds at 7/4 but even that market is tight as a further 8 teams are then priced at 5/1 or under. As usual the first ten games are crucial and should give us an indication as to whether we will be fighting at the top or bottom end.

What sort of people pay £5 million for a mansion on the other side of the world and then never come to stay in it?

The sort who have a hell of a lot of money and are quite happy to let it leak into the UK every year.

A bit like what they have done with the football club really. It seems to have been bought on a wing and a prayer, serves no purpose to them and just sits there rotting away. I suspect eventually they will realise that they are throwing money at it to maintain it and pay the fixed bills, such as insurances, standing charges for the utilities and the council tax, but the purchase, makes no sense whatsoever!!

I am posting this here as I just came across it on YouTube, it's just a little older than me (the game that is), we beat Burnley and it's in the FA Cup.

Brilliant, just look at a full Ewood rocking.

    Official attendance 52,920

Notable also for the commentator referring, historically correctly, to our Quartered shirts :rover:

Am I seeing things, or was there no segregation? When they scored there were celebrations amongst the crowd in different areas, imagine that these days.

  7. A manager from yester year would have offered him a contract and paid him and his agent a huge signing on fee, describing him, as the next Pele or something. At least we have to be thankful for small mercies, this lad has been sent back to the equivalent of the 7th or 8th tier, where he seems to belong.

Ahh super Duncan mckenzie, I’ll never forget that goal he scored

at Mansfield ,then jumping on the fence to celibrate in front of the rovers supporters,in our promotion season.class player.

Not certain, but that might have been Grimsby. I think he was born there and something rings a bell abut him scoring two, in his home Town.

Definitely a similar impact him and Speedie are the types that grab games by the scruff of the neck and drag everyone else along, he did similar at Cardiff to what Speedie did here I think.

Oh for a signing along those lines now, a bold inspirational punt but players of their mentality are few and far between now sadly.

Duncan McKenzie, all those years ago. Pure quality, even at his age then.

Wonder what happened to the bone heads who came from the midlands was it ? to put some intimidation on certain people ?

Are they still loyal hardcore or where they on a payroll as well like kung fu pandas Bolton rent boys and the like ?

What an unbelievable time but it's all been nicely swept under the carpet....for now.   I live for the day something turns up in public non Rovers related regarding Dastardly/Mutley and all their crew, some who turned rogue when they were supposed to be loyal to the club, and sets off a series of events that lets it all out.   Time is wonderful at throwing up that sort of thing just when it's least expected.

    Scum !

As you know, one former player did his very best to help with some of the stuff. I will respect that guy for the rest of my life, as he, unlike some did not take the money and run.

  11. For anyone, who hasn't seen it before, he is an example of what was going on at the club. What you have to remember when you watch this, is that the fans were blamed for not giving the player mentioned a chance. Was it just a coincidence that he is the son of an agent heavily involved at the club and did this player go on to make a career from himself, once he left our club and was no longer frozen out by the fans?

Back then, there were some very questionable people around the club, who were able to manipulate people in high places and cover their tracks by being very clever and one step ahead. I know what my opinion is on those events and that's why I and many others who bothered finding out the truth, will never trust the current owners.

Can you link the one that deals with the death threats?

I don't know if there is a link to the death threats, but if you read through all of the information on that blog, you will see plenty of fans names mentioned. I took it upon myself, a long time ago to speak to some of the people mentioned and that's how I found out about them. So either they didn't happen or some of the things said to me, were pure fiction.

Well, for the record I wasn't subjected to it but I can't speak for my friends.

For those who bothered to find out, what was going on in the first few years of Venkys ownership, most will know about the death threats and also other very untoward things. I have spoken at length to one individual, who was put through all sorts of personal trauma and who received a death threat. Someone has asked if it was reported to the police, well yes it was, but unfortunately it was never investigated properly.

As many people will know, anyone who stood up to what was going on at the club back then were sorted in their own way. Whether you were the first team manager, a club executive, or simply a pesky fan getting too involved, it didn't really matter. I would suggest that's why the people who knew what was really going, on, will never rest, until the current owners are gone.

I can't comment on his ability as I havent see him play.

We have all seen players have a worldie who when signed to a higher level are not good enough. I'm just saying to be playing at 28 for Newport it's more likely he had a good game than him being brilliant. Unless people have seen him play a few times

I fully agree with that and wouldn't suggest making a judgement, based on one performance. It may well be that the Newport keeper wouldn't make the grade at a higher level, I was just pointing out that historically it has been done.

If nothing else, it brought back some good memories, thinking of Jim Arnold. I had the pleasure of meeting him too and he was a great guy as well as a brilliant keeper.

Gems like this are fading out of the modern day game though. With more data analysts than you can shake a stick at it's a very, very rare occasion you'd be finding someone out of their level at 28. There will be 100+ videos of him training and playing circulated periodically to clubs to try and get his signature. Surely if he was any good some club would have took a punt on him earlier?

You are quite right and it is a very  sad indictment of todays game. I just had a read, about Jim Arnolds career and he was even better than I remember. Granted he was back up, but he has a first division winners and European Cup winners cup medal amongst his collection. He kept a club record 19 clean sheets in our third division promotion season, under Howard Kendall and conceded only 29 league goals the following season in the old second division, when we lost out on promotion on that heart breaking day in Bristol.

Not bad for a guy signed from Non league at that age.

Not seen him but you have to ask yourself why is he playing for Newport at 28

I wouldn't let that cloud your judgement, as Jim Arnold was 29 when we signed him from Non League Stafford Rangers. He was a quality keeper and followed the late Howard Kendall to Everton when he left us. I don't think he did much at Goodison, due to them also signing Neville Southall, but in my view was one of the best keeps we ever had.
